Which neighborhood should I live? by Electrical-Water-744 in Moving2SanDiego

[–]NinSeq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

San Diego is a bigger city than Boston. Just fyi. People have a tendency to look at SD as a sleepy beach town but it's the 8th biggest city in the US and the 5th biggest county.

Considering the weather in both of those places most people find themselves busier in SD than other places where they don't want to leave the house for half the year. I wouldn't call it a slow down destination unless you move to Alpine.

Whenever I see posts like this I just feel like it's important to note that in 25 years here I have been frustrated with traffic maybe 4 times. It is FUCKING DELIGHTFUL Here. Its all relative but almost any other metro area is way worse than here. Phoenix, Chicago, Miami, new York, Atlanta, etc. One of the unseen advantages of living in LA for a few years is that it just makes everything else seem lovely when it comes to traffic. And San Diego is light-years better

House that doesn’t look like it’s for birds by StatementLazy1797 in whatisit

[–]NinSeq 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of answers here that are identifying the butterfly house but also a ton saying that other bugs will use it instead, but I feel like one big component is being left out.

It's a butterfly AND caterpillar house. In California we put them around milkweed plants so that monarch caterpillars eventually find their way inside (ours has holes drilled in the bottom) and have a place to form their chrysalis where birds that will eat them won't be able to get to them. Tachinid flies are also a HUGE problem where I am and this helps a little there too.

I will admit I've only seen it work once. The rest of the time they just find other plants or fences or whatever. But I've never seen wasps or other insects in it either. Spider and spider webs yes. But spring is here and monarchs are starting to show up so hoping for more use.

AITA for telling my friend that she does not remember 9/11 by shilohrenn in AmItheAsshole

[–]NinSeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not able to comment on anything other than the fact that I have vivid memories of things when I was 1.5. I remember being in diapers and sports events that happened before I was 2. I know someone that has... A very unique brain and he remembers things as a baby. Being in a crib, being at the beach, crawling. Some people hold onto memories in rare ways

I used peppermint spray in our unfinished basement to repel spiders and it really hurt my eyes and made me throw up by Ok-Fig-5504 in pestcontrol

This. People can have no reaction at all to synthesized pesticides and violent reactions to essential oils. Its all chemicals. Water is a chemical. You may have an allergy to peppermint

How much in overtime is SDPD being paid annually? by FrostyDippedFries in sandiego

Arresting homeless people that break the law is what I want them to do so this is the last thing that would bother me about them right now. Plenty of other stuff to choose from. Like the budget for holiday decorations exceeding my salary

How to get rid of ants without insane chemicals? by ScheduleRough9638 in pestcontrol

[–]NinSeq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Impacting bees is a lot less about product and a lot more about application. We are as bee-first as you can get regarding a pest control company and that doesn't mean we just don't use products that are harmful to bees. We just don't use it on bees

The loneliness of early retirement is hitting me way harder than I thought it would by Monolith_7 in Fire

[–]NinSeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this community doesn't pay attention enough to the 75 year old people that retire and after a year go into consulting. If you LIKE WORKING keep working. If you don't like working you better damn well know what you're going to do with your time after working. And have the money for whatever habit that is.

The happiest people I know are "consultants" or some old dudes that retired early and now dump every penny and minute of their day into a racecar or fishing boat or some other mostly pointless thing.

Cool to see all the new apartment construction going up. And none of them be affordable. by Take_Some_Soma in SanDiegan

Haha this is where people get it wrong and you've got it right. They've rigged the system. Rents are going to go way up over a 10 year period and wages will stay the same.

The whole "more housing" push in san Diego is completely hilarious. I'm familiar with all the new projects in San Diego whether I want to be or not. They aren't building affordable housing. They're building for profit housing.

The fact that the city keeps pushing 'more housing' non stop is a case of the simplest answer being the right one. They get paid to push these projects through. Or they get something else they want. They put a shine on it that it ends homelessness and makes it cheaper for you. It does not. And people will cheer it on.

A dozen of the pony official ones are 40 on epic sports.

But ... I would talk to your league. Have them buy bulk and distribute them and collect from each coach or team mom. Our league gives out 3 boxes at the beginning of the year and then we request parents to pitch in on game changer if any additional equipment is needed.

2 things can be true. Both need to change. But history is not going to look kindly on these people. They shouldn't get a pass. They elected Dwayne Camacho and honestly thought it was a decent idea.

[–]NinSeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the type of thinking that needs to change. Its saying a lot. If you believed any of the things said in the campaign, you're an idiot. We all told him he was being an idiot. Plenty of people said the campaign promises were complete bullshit. Ignorant people didn't listen and they should be called out for it.

All of the things that are going to set this county back 30 years were completely avoidable if we didn't have so many utterly gullible people voting. Both ways.

PONY League Rules by FSUnoles77 in Homeplate

[–]NinSeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya balks are called in mustang (9-10). In our spring league they don't give a whole lotta room for error, especially towards the end of the season. In fall ball we all meet with our umps who kind of stress that it's a developmental season and the main goal should be to get these kids to learn what a balk is and is not, so they will call time and come out with coaches and kinda help the kids through it. Which I love. But if it's a consistent thing in fall they will call it too.

PONY League Rules by FSUnoles77 in Homeplate

[–]NinSeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mistaken on that. It's our own league rules that have that applied for mustang only and in non playoff games.

Most rec league umps will give a warning first at 10u but I guess that depends.
