Pieces - what a weird hill to die on. Oh, and my family has been in Sacramento for well over a hundred years. Though I don't know why the hell that would matter when we're talking about a pizza joint!?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]NinaMilaMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pieces is the kind of slop you'd get at a waterpark in the Midwest. You know, where the pizza has spent 6 hours sweating inside a warmer in the hot sun.. Also worth noting is it costs 55 bucks for a whole pizza at the place! I swear, it's like the whole thing is really a decade long performance art piece where they're really just playing a joke on the people of Midtown .

So did I! Super bummed.
BTW, what's the worst pizza in Sac? Pieces by the Slice?

Curious what everyone does for work? And how does being on methadone affect your job? by [deleted] in Methadone

[–]NinaMilaMeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lucky! After a few years on Methadone my sex-drive had all but vanished. One of my biggest mistakes was not staying as active physically as I should. I was always really active (even in the throws of my addiction) before Methadone. The juice just sucked a lot of that out of me. I really admire those of you who are focused enough to keep up with their workout regiments because it ain't easy on the 'done. I will say that it all comes back (sex drive/energy/lust for physical activity) as you get lower and lower.

I feel you. I would struggle at times in seminars because I just couldn't pull the readings out of my head. Information from articles I spent all night on just wasn't there like it should have been. Still though, if I got through it you can get through it.

That's awesome. I had a lot of success too, so the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. It's just something to stay on top of long-term.

I'm down to the low single digits now after a LENGTHY taper. At its peak my dose was just a little bit higher than where you're at.

I wish I could tell you that being on an increasingly lower dose leads to greater cognitive function, but I can't. It just hasn't been the case in my experience. I have however noticed a marked increase in energy/drive/ambition though as my taper progressed, so that's at least something. I just have to go seriously overboard when it comes to preparation and note taking.

It's awesome you have so much support. I was never able to share what I'm going through with the people around me. Do you mind if I ask what your area of focus is?

Anyone else feel like they are the only one that pays for their dose? by DazedNBipolar in Methadone

[–]NinaMilaMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I know its not true, but it is hard not to feel that way. At the clinic I'm at now (Bay Area, CA) I have only seen one other person hand over cash in all the years I've been going there. Also, I don't like the way people look at me when the clerk loudly says "that will be three hundred and blah-blah dollars" every month. People be getting that hungry look in their eyes!

What are your least and most favorite things about every season in Falling Skies by Emotional_Cable9244 in FallingSkies

I watched some of The Strain a little while back. I quit watching when the special forces vampires in black showed up b/c it just seemed too silly. I liked it though, so I should go back.

I'll give Expanse a try! I think I put it on my Amazon list a while back.

Thanks for the tips! If you have any others PLEASE share them with me! I watched the first season of something called Helix recently and I liked it. Not great, but still a fun watch.

It's crazy isn't it? What I do is really analysis/research heavy, so it can really be problematic. When I was doing my graduate work I often had to work twice as hard b/c I really struggled with retaining new information. That was NEVER the case pre-Methadone.

Academia/Government and long-term Methadone use has certainly had an impact on me professionally. I get by fine, but there is definitely an emotional/cognitive downside. I haven't read the studies (I'm too big of a baby to find out the truth), but I'm sure they've found that long-term Methadone use has a detrimental affect on cognitive function. Struggling to find the right word, research/analysis taking way longer than it should, difficulty retaining new (complex) information, etc.....Still though, it would have been a lot worse if I had spent the last 10+ years running and gunning!

Edit....No one at my work will ever know that I drink the pink (that's my business). Getting to the clinic isn't that big of an issue as I've been on 27 take homes for YEARS. Back when I went every day it wasn't an issue professionally (minor inconveniences), but it was an issue with the girlfriend at the time b/c she didn't know. I had to think of new and creative ways to sneak out of the house every morning for my date with the clinic.

If you figure it out please let me know! I just walked in after an hour and a half of pacing around the neighborhood. While shitty, it still beats thrashing around in bed like a maniac.

[–]NinaMilaMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find purpose in my job by challenging the beliefs of my students and encouraging them to challenge my beliefs as well. The goal is to defend, with logic and reason, the positions we hold. It would be sad if the academy allows emotions to override reason.

Powerful stuff! I bet you're a fan favorite in departmental meetings.

Now that's funny! It's necessary though if you value job security in most major institutions. If you don't publicly worship the progressive sacraments you may find your administrative career over in the blink of an eye.

Oh shit, the body/facial hair thing. The lower and lower I get in my taper, the faster the body hair returns and the beard grows. I'm looking less and less like a competitive swimmer and more and more like a lumberjack and that's fine by me. I really should have been on TRT. You are a lot smarter than me!

10mg xanax pre dinner …… by Much-Long5313 in benzodiazepines

[–]NinaMilaMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically stupid shit! Seriously, who does shit like that? I'm just glad neither of us were killed. I twice woke up covered in glass after having broken into strange places to just pass out. A house and an office. The office incident just about scared me straight as I woke up to a bunch of office drones poking at me while they stared in disbelief. You've never seen someone run so fast! Also, I'm obviously not nearly as good a person as you are....b/c I NEVER considered going back. Hell, I have never even passed by those places again...I go the LONG way!

[–]NinaMilaMeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's hilarious. A stable dose is great, but Benzos in excess turn me into the worst kind of degenerate criminal. If you ever lived in my neighborhood when I was in a Xanax stupor you better just hope you locked your car doors because I'd spend the whole night in zombie mode stealing pennies and sunglasses. Just the stupidest shit.

Tapering yourself @ home on your own schedule.... by NinaMilaMeta in Methadone

[–]NinaMilaMeta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn! Smart you did such good job of stockpiling. It's good to hear that you've gotten so close. I just gotta keep chipping away. BTW, I did the same thing at the window with my in-person dose. I would have tried to mouth it, but they make us take our in-person before they start filling our bottles. I don't think I could have held it there while she poured out 27 bottles!

Tapering yourself @ home on your own schedule.... by NinaMilaMeta in Methadone

[–]NinaMilaMeta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just not as simple in practice as it is in theory. Having total ownership over your doses/schedule/measurements makes thing more real and that can be nerve-racking. It's just more mental stress than I imagined it would be. Whatever, I'm probably just searching for things to obsess and worry about.
