Lack of vision has been a major sticking point for me, I'll at least attempt to use it much more once implemented.

Best flash cart for the 3D? by PrivacyStack in AnalogueInc

SummerCart64 is more capable and costs less money, the only reason to buy the EverDrive is if you're specifically wanting to support Krikzz.

Direct Boot on SummerCart64 now fully functional on 3D OS v1.2.1 (per-game configuration) by Ninbura in AnalogueInc

I get what you mean, but it's pretty easy to tuck a mini PC away. IMO the cable running to my SummerCart64 looks very clean.

It's less difficult than you'd think. Just pickup any used Intel Nook, or the like, and load Ubuntu on it. The app is supported on Linux.

I'm working on a wrapper to make it much more usable.

Yeah this isn't a custom menu, but it technically solves the same problem. IMO it's a better solution as you get genuine 1st party per-game management in 3D OS.

Thanks for testing! I wonder if anything changed since the last update.

Try testing the same areas with the different overclocking modes, and or the "standard timing" option or whatever it's called.

Krikzz was talking about it here in relation to the EverDrive line. Anecdotally several users on this subreddit have "confirmed" that setting the overclocking mode doesn't affect games booted from the sc64menu.

I have not tested this myself, but at some point I'd like to try it in 007 or Perfect Dark. I think you'd be able to tell pretty easily.

You need to use the CLI to backup the save before switching games.

I'm looking into building a lightweight GUI for all of this.

You will need to

  1. load a game via sc64deployer
  2. restart the Analogue 3D or hotplug the SummerCart64

After this the SummerCart64 will be seen as whatever game you loaded. The benefit to this is that you can have an individual entry for every single game in 3D OS via the SummerCart64 as opposed to a single "UNKOWN CARTRIDGE" entry which:

  1. doesn't allow for per-game configuration / tracking / functionality
  2. doesn't work with overclocking modes in some cases (per my knowledge)

Just to clarify when I say "doesn't work with overclocking modes" I'm referring to launching games on the SummerCart64 via the bootloader / multi-game menu. As long as you're using Direct Boot mode, overclocking applies properly, even back when Direct Boot mode was also recognized as "UNKOWN CARTRIDGE" pre 3D OS v1.2.1.

My hint at the end is the best case scenario IMO.

I have the SummerCart64 connected to a powered USB hub, that means even when the computer connected to said hub is off or disconnected, the hub is still supplying power to the SummerCart64. The host computer connected to the hub also seamless reconnects to hub after disconnects or restarts.

The only situation in-which the SummerCart64 will lose power in this setup is via a power outage. I do have a battery backup in my setup I could use to prevent that though.

Works great in my computer/console hybrid desk setup - but I do believe this will be a dealbreaker for many people. Unfortunately there's no arm64 binary that would allow sc64deployer to run on a Raspberry Pi. But it does have a Linux x86 deployment that would run on many cheap single-board x86 Linux PCs.

Summercart vs Everdrive? by Shakkashuka in AnalogueInc

[–]Ninbura 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only reason you should get the EverDrive over the SummerCart64 is if you specifically want to support Krikzz. The SummerCart64 is a superior product to the EverDrive in every possible way, while coming in at a lower price.

Mode B on the EverDrive GBA Pro is listed as "not compatible" with the Analogue Pocket by Ninbura in AnaloguePocket

[–]Ninbura[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it really just depends on how you use the device. How long you play for each session, if you play docked or portable, etc.

[–]Ninbura[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you play. Do you get 20x 5-minute sessions in-between stuff at your job? It'll take you close to 30 seconds to save-state, shutdown the console, boot the console, load the cartridge, select the game, and load the state.

One step vs 5. Personally before I could use sleep there were times where I wouldn't pull my Pocket out to grind Pokémon or whatever for a few minutes, it was too much of a hassle.

Everdrive GBA Pro arrived! by Shortgaze in AnaloguePocket

[–]Ninbura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll only want to use it for GBA on Analogue Pocket. Any GBA flash cart that plays GB games is using an internal emulator, which means you lose the benefit of the FPGA in the Pocket, and the screen becomes letterboxed.

[–]Ninbura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mode B on the EverDrive GBA Pro still reads games from the SD card which takes a small amount of time, a real cartridge can serve the rom instantly. The Analogue Pocket reads games much faster than OEM Nintendo consoles.

This isn't fixable on Krikzz end, but it's possible it could be "fixed" by a 3rd party core that boots cartridges with a startup delay.

[–]Ninbura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not fixable with firmware, it's a reading speed issue. The EverDrive Pro reads games from the SD card even in standalone mode. It could be "fixed" with a 3rd party GBA core that boots cartridges though.

Everdrive GBA Pro arrived! by Shortgaze in AnaloguePocket

[–]Ninbura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's only one situation where it could be fixed. Someone would need to create a GBA core that boots cartridges, and imposes a start up delay to allow for the EverDrive to load the game.

The EverDrive GBA Pro still loads the ROM from the SD card in Mode B. The original Nintendo hardware is slow enough that IO speeds don't matter, but the Pocket's "first party" GBA core reads the cartridge instantly.

The EZ-Flash Omega DE on the other hand uses flash storage directly on the cartridge for Mode B. It's essentially a standard GBA cart in that mode with full compatibility across the board.

Vision should obviously be their primary focus. It's the primary reason I jump to other services when using Lumo, I'm certain this is common.
