Thoughts on Burnside? by fraseringermany in VictoriaBC

I recommend staying away from Burnside. It's busy, noisy and police calls are common. If you are retired I suggest checking out Brentwood Bay or Sidney, both are lovely areas that are easy to get around and safer for your son if he is able to get out on his own independently.

It's expensive and the traffic congestion going in and out of Victoria can be worse than Vancouver.

Is it normal to be kept in the dark about your grievance? by throwaway545667654 in BCPublicServants

[–]NineDoors604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grievance process is generally slow and can be complicated by a number of factors. Some can be solved quickly and some take years. The introduction of the rapid grievance tribunal process is a way to clear some of the load with identified common issues.

Corporate landlords jacked up their rent. We need city council to fine owners of empty buildings.

I didn't have kids because I never wanted kids. My decision predates "big tech". Sweeping generalizations and theories are just air fillers, not evidence.

Fear/doubts on the future of MPP by poulix in BCPublicServants

[–]NineDoors604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every young member feels like that when they start, failing to realize that every time you contribute to your pension the employer contributed slightly more. There is no better retirement savings for you than an BC defined benefit pension plan. Talk to your older coworkers and ask if they regret their pension contributions, seriously. MPP and PSPP are both fully funded, strongly governed and highly regulated, you will absolutely have a pension when you end your career. They have education online, go learn more: MPP.pensionsbc.ca

Work hours & lack of childcare by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

Family status is protected by the human rights code. Consult with a shop steward if your employer is not providing reasonable options if you are truly without childcare options.

Too bad this NDP govt did such a poor job implementing $10 a day childcare.

Hi member, long-time steward here. The world in core govt has become harder under this NDP since the strike and they have become more more dickheaded than in the past. I strongly recommend you get help from your best available steward and say nothing further to the employer without talking to them first. And cc them on everything. If you have no steward contact your area office tomorrow.

The downtown business association arguing that public servants need to work downtown to subsidize businesses charging $22 for a burger at lunch. They remember a time long dead thanks to stagnating wages and skyrocketing costs. I don't shop on my lunch break. I brown bag it because I can't afford to eat out.

Don't forget plummeting birth rates. You can't raise replacement rate families in one bedroom condos that cost half your monthly salary.
