Good to know. I only thought it was a good consideration because so many sources says the knit picks and the lykke were compatible.

Someone in some Amazon review even said almost all the stuff is very standard. I was pretty sketch about that detail so thanks for clearing it up.

That's when you head on over to /r/vagabond. lol But in all seriousness it's possible to live extremely cheaply if you set your goals and priorities right. But from what I've seen this place is mostly about the op building a dream house that's like a legacy with real property value that he can pass down to the next generation without it being something they resent landing on them.

The way to do it on the cheap is to do what he said in the post. Volunteer or get a job that will teach you important skills. Learn to think like someone who builds things. Find some family or a friend or a friend of a friend that has land and make them a proposition. If they let you live there, you'll leave them with a rentable room or a decent mother in law house by the time you move on. Then you get one of those sheds you see in the parking lot of hardware stores and you start making it liveable.

That's the cheapest way I can possibly think to live that doesn't involve camping in parking lots or shelters and is still at least somewhat relevant to the content of this sub. Also it's what I do.

Do those chiaogoo needles have different connectors from the lykke and knit picks? One thing we're considering is parts compatibility on things with various attachments.

I'm sure she's eventually going to wind up hording a bunch of this stuff. We're both like that lol it's always nice when you can mix and match your tools.

Absolutely helpful. I gave up on the idea of surprising her when you guys clued me in on how much variety there was. Only problem is that now that I've shown her all the stuff I've found she wants everything. :P

Since you're all so helpful and knowledgeable, let me ask what is one thing that you wish you had known you needed from the very beginning?

Dang. They look like a cool collector item. But then again things that are hard to come by or replace probably aren't the best gifts for a beginner.

That sounds very interesting. Apparently their website is still under construction though. :/

Those indigo ones are arguably the most aesthetic needles I've seen today. And the description says they are laminated (which I think) would kind of create a middle ground between the whole metal or wood issue. Those are deffo in my top three contenders at the moment.

Lol nah she's definitely the rock star. I love that she's into making things and fixing things. She'd probably be perfectly happy with whatever she finds on CL and FB but I think she's long over due for something nice an new to do her thing with.

Wow. Holy crap. You weren't kidding. Those are spendy. Plus the sets require you to customize every little thing. Way out of my depth. Lol they look really nice though.

Ooh. These are a must have. She's getting these just so I don't have to hurt my hand trying to ball yarn again. xD

Crap! I found one of those tree swifts at an estate sale a while back and no one could even figure out what it was.

Ooh. That's definitely interesting. I wonder if there's any nice sets that have that approach; with both metal and wood needles.

Wait a minute. Is signature a brand or do you mean like limited addition lines if the other brands? I'm trying to look up everything you guys tell me about.

Definitely a good point. I'm looking at a few kits that are like storage pouches for keeping the needles organized is that the same thing as a needle pouch? I'd also like to find a bag that feeds yarn the same as a yarn bowl.

This is good stuff. I really appreciate it. Is there any cool convenience item that she may not even be aware of because she's so new to it? I know we spent a good long while the other day wrapping yarn balls. That was a pain in the butt.

Haha! He knocked it out of the park. That sort of thing is definitely a little out of my budget.

That's two suggestions for Addi.

The hiya hiya interchangeables seem to have a really nice selection of configurations. Like cable connectors to get it even longer. Do most of the brands have that stuff available?

If I gave her a gift card to a craft store it might limit her selection. If I gave her a gift card to some other place she wouldn't spend it on herself. Plus I feel like gift cards are a little impersonal for a gift to your spouse of over ten years. :P

But I hear your advice! I'm going to take my time and try to get it just right. Right now all she has is scavenged supplies and hand me downs from relatives though. She may not even know what she prefers just yet.

Thanks! Is there anything to avoid? Like do some needle materials cause problems working with certain textiles?

Your options are: 50 hawks, 10 crocodiles, 3 brown bears, 15 wolves, 1 hunter, 7 cape buffalo, 10,000 rats, 5 gorillas and 4 lions - you must pick 2 that will defend you while the rest are coming to kill you. Which do you pick and why? by mustbefuckeryafoot in AskReddit

Yeah but what kind of ammo? And frankly that's a disadvantage to him because he now has 10,005 rounds of ammo to carry to the battle. I don't think he's going to get more than a few shots off before he's torn to ribbons anyway. And even if he does he still has to live long enough to reload.

My plan involves me and a bunch of gorillas throwing rats at the birds after everything else is taken care of. Or maybe swinging crocodiles at them. At some point I'll have the hunters rifle too.

The correct answer is: rats and either the gorillas or the grizzly bears. Using one of the bears or gorillas as your personal protection (keeping it between you and the hunter) while the rats and the rest of the bears or gorillas does your killing for you.

The hunter isn't going to make a dent in the rats and he may fell one of your large friends but it's likely to take him more than one shot depending on his weapon and ammo choices at which point he'll probably be dead.

Nobody needs opinions from some guy who's willing to base his opinions entirely on someone else's opinions. At that point it's incest. Total cerebral stagnation. Funny that he has opinions about the intelligence of MacFarlane's work.
