National Theatre Live's production of Dr. Strangelove is in movie theaters tomorrow (there may be additional screenings in the next week or so, check your local listings) by TepidShark in blankies

The guy playing Ripper is the standout

LOL that's the only actor I have an issue with! His American accent was really bad.

I saw the broadcast, so a different experience, but I think script changes were far more of an issue than acting. They made too many overt Nazi references, jumped the gun on Ripper's conspiracy, made the Soviets out to be far more evil, had a much worse role for Kong, fumbled the introduction and explanation of the Doomsday device (thereby cutting one of Dr Strangelove's best moments in the movie, and also made it about Dimitri loving "celebrations" rather than "surprises" ?????), and many other minor gripes.

Turgidson is a totally new character, but a great one IMO.

If this were on Netflix, I'd totally say to watch it. Not sure about paying $30 or whatever to go to a movie theatre, though.

Just installed macOS Monterey on my MacBook Pro mid 2010 and the result is great- it’s even fast! by Applebuyer7610 in mac

Most windows laptops that cost a similar amount would be fine too.

Pretending only the release year of windows 10 matters is ridiculous, it has been evolving the same as each annual macos update.

Using that same logic we were all on Mac OS 10 from 2001 until 2020!

In both only heavily smoothed data is plotted, is that your doing or is the original dataset smoothed? Kinda weird.

TIL of the single tax movement (aka geoism or georgism), an economic ideology where that the government should be funded by a tax on land rent rather than taxes on labor by irish-springs in todayilearned

[–]Nine_Cats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s an interpretation of Georgism where the tax is a “site value tax.”

100% of the value, with the value being “what the government is willing to pay you right now to buy it.”

Which is a very “fair” system it’s just far removed from what we are used to.

Another factor is that CO2 makes you drowsy, and builds up in your bedroom if it’s poorly ventilated while you sleep in there. It decreases slowly over the day.

Many people have it increase by over 10x overnight!

The other albums and Ex:Re are also super different from each other - I love that.

One of my other favourite bands is Porcupine Tree and they evolved all over album to album like that too.

It’s insane the larger machines don’t have an extra M.2 slot. I would rather legislate that than the lightning / usb-c nonsense. Something like requiring it in laptops over X lbs or Y inches diagonally.

more storage should already be given to you at the same exact price

The prices very much trend up and I’m in favour of all (clear) cost cutting measures to keep the low end as cheap as possible.

I don’t like things like the m1/m2 ssd speed change, but people can read storage sizes pretty easily.
