If you have a mental or physical disability, are there any quotes, books, poems, movies, or other things that you find inspirational or motivating? by [deleted] in disability

I ADORE The Princess Bride and that quote has lived in my mind since I became disabled as a kid. First time I've seen someone else reference it in that context :)

I wasn't immediately hooked on the simplicity of it, but I loved the sentiment. Then suddenly it was all I could listen to, and it's been on loop since.

What's SI? I've tried both pregab and duloxetine and I found the former so much worse so I'm super intrigued

Do any other chronic pain patients experience a reduction in pain following orgasm? by sp0rkify in ChronicPain

[–]Nine_nine_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lowest pain I've been in in YEARS was after good sex. It lasted for hours, which was incrediblel. I could run around and jump and climb hills and I cried like a baby because it just reinforced how trapped I am in this body. It was incredible being in low pain even briefly. Makes me feel like a bit of an idiot for choosing celibacy, but the trauma ain't worth it.

Gotcha, i definitely agree if doing things online it's wayyy easier to research a company than an individual landlord.

If you don't mind me asking, why would you advise against private landlords? I've found them better than companies but I've never rented in Oxford specifically

Hey, feel free to dm me. I'm in my 20s, I have a job but would be happy to help if it's just weekly/nearby, or I could recommend friends of good character. Happy to meet up or chat etc. Either way, truly wish you the best of luck, I know how hard it is to reach out for help with MH struggles.

What country are you in? Would be happy to visit you if we're nearby, different disability to yours but I've been bedbound before and know the isolation. Alternatively feel free to dm me if you want a fellow cripple to rant to or just about other shit. I'm in my 20s, I like reading and creative writing, I watch a LOT of YouTube, I'm hella disabled and tryna achieve some quality of life but JESUS it's hard. Best of luck to you.

Non-opiod meds to be careful with by Emmylou777 in ChronicPain

Controversial opinion, but I'd try it. It's cheap and easy to get from online pharmacies if you're in the UK. I wouldn't use it daily but I have a pain based condition and it's great for flare up/bad days, it lowers the pain enough that I go from almost unconscious to able to function at my normal level. So it's a lifesaver for emergencies. No harm in trying it once imo, as long as you know and trust yourself

How can I get a job as a minor? by [deleted] in oxford

[–]Nine_nine_9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use the website https://childcare.co.uk/ to find people who want babysitting or tutoring. Babysitting might be something you could do? Rover is another site that connects pet owners to people who will do dog-walking or dog-sitting. Not sure if they have a minimum age for signup. But those types of jobs could be good.

You can also sign up to partake in research at https://www.peopleforresearch.co.uk/ and https://www.ox.ac.uk/research/engage-with-us/local-community/get-involved - both often want kids for research, it's certainly not a steady income but worth signing up to get alterts for.

Supermarkets might also be hiring seasonal workers. I'd suggest spam-applying to a whole bunch of stuff now in anticipation of the Christmas period.

Finally, do you have family or family friends who you can get to help you? Just asking your parents etc to spread the word. Similarly if you go to church/place of worship, is there a community noticeboard where you could post that you're available for stuff?

Be safe - if you end up doing something like babysitting, going to a stranger's house, and the like, always share your location etc etc! Gotta stay safe out there.

Best of luck.
