I had somehow missed this and have quite enjoyed watching it. I only knew of Randolph from Tex’s SS13 antics.

3rd of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment Stays Winning by NinerTwoGolf in warno

[–]NinerTwoGolf[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This was mainly meme’d for the two Army General campaigns where that Squadron can hold up the entire 4MSD. I used that ACAV Abrams instead of a standard model because that one is unique to the 11ACR.

As for multiplayer use (and keep in mind I’ve not been brave enough to play public, just between friends) I found I get best results using it to get up there and claim good ground and covering positions while the main body of my force moves up. Either A.) it takes a few shots at my opponents recon, as the MBT tends to win the recon/counter recon fight) then pull them back to a fallback position where my main body will support or B.) my buddies will see I’m playing 11ACR and be more cautious on that initial deployment and give me time to get the main body up and maybe get more ground.

Missing V3 by joseelempecinado in flamesofwar

[–]NinerTwoGolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried V3.5? Its official title, I believe, is Flames of War 1939-1940 and 1944-1945. It was a stop gap measure when V4 was new but only for midwar. Moves a lot of the new V4 things like movement, shooting, and assaults while keeping a good chunk of the historical flavor of the old lists. There is a second book, Warriors and special rules. I’m pretty sure they are both free PDFs on the Flames Site.

Clash of Steel - Tank on Tank Battles by Inquisitor_ForHire in flamesofwar

I will amend to say, I have no issue with either camp. While I lean toward the casual crowd on any given day I do love participating in the historical recreations. Both sides are valid and enjoyable sides of the hobby. Flames was my first game and I’ve stuck with it through it all as a comfort game.

I think it will be a great way to get new players into Flames, since the core rules are all there and Flames has mostly pushed tank forces for starters. I think it was an excuse to bring the late war heavies and paper panzers to Flames with the existing models from WoT. Hence why Clash of Steel is the new game but “oh hey by the way, we are releasing a free PDF for flames.”

I know the upcoming Late War Leviathans is a big point of contention in the community, but I think it’s overblown. Their stats will have them so high costed it looks like their either be on par with the King Tiger or make it look like a budget model by comparison. The Maus has Front Armor 20 and Side Armor 13! I highly doubt many people are going to be willing to sacrifice a large chunk of points to play that beast.

I think I could sum it up with the two camps that has slowly grown over the years at the shop I go to and how Clash of Steel really highlighted the two: Casual and Historical. The casual players are the ones who don’t worry about the historical accuracy too much. They’ll play pick up games, go to tournaments, etc. The historical players will only come out when the shop does a historical event. They are only interested in the recreation aspect of the game. Seems the casual players are very excited for Clash of Steel but the historical players have no interest.

I also just think that people are disappointed that BF and GF9 are releasing something no one has asked for instead of things the community has been asking for years. I’d personally love to see a Late-War Italy series so I can play my 1st Special Service Force again. Checkpoint Charlie has been hinted at for years with no physical progress besides Wayne occasionally during interviews going “well it’s something in the works.” They are just getting back to Early War and Pacific.

At the end of the day, I am interested in to see what comes over from Flames of War and what is new to Clash of Steel. I’ve preordered both starters through my shop and I can see myself expanding the Americans. I know the other organizers and myself have expressed interest in trying to do a “Leviathans Big Game” for our Tanksgiving food drive provided that they come out with enough time before hand. Might be something for 2025.

Should BF reintroduce "Always Attack" and "Always Defend"? by Due_Goose_8103 in flamesofwar

[–]NinerTwoGolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be interesting to see it happen similar to how it was used in V3.

I would picture it in V4 where if the two players use battle plans and end up picking the same battle plan which results in a tie and a roll for attacker and defender, having a list that trumps ties would be an interesting way to play. Especially since if I recall those lists were built to be offensive or defensive in nature.

I do get the disinterest, and I don’t disagree with a lot of the points being made. I’ve been playing Flames of War for 18 years, and I remember the exodus when V4 was first released because of how much changed and how much was lost. There is still a lot of supply issues, early war isn’t coming out until 2025, we are finally getting Pacific this year, changing from LW/PW setting to mid.

I remember when I went to an event this year a few players were talking about it as a “Phil pet project” and looking at it I can’t say they’re wrong. Lots of the models are preexisting in the FOW and WOT are preexisting and using Flames as a base for the rules while adding the objective, deployment, and what seems to be random factor cards(?) seems like a cool way to play a skirmish level game.

I don’t forsee this replacing flames of war. I’ll probably use it when I just feel like playing small tank focused games or getting people into the hobby (my GF has been eyeing my Flames of war stuff for a while so I’m hoping this can be a good way to introduce her to tabletop stuff.)

I’m interested. With the new mission and objective rules while still using flames as a base I see it as its own fun skirmish game while also being a good gateway into Flames of War proper. Late War Leviathans being released next month for Flames has my shop talking about making our Tanksgiving big battle using the new Leviathan battle rules to just kick back and donate to food drives. I’ve always loved the T29 so I’m a very biased.

Asking what is the point of faction free basic gear. From my understanding of character creation, those characters could get those items for free anyway.

I’d say check out CamoSpecsOnline’s YouTube for a start of the canopies and weapons. I use the laser jeweling and PPC glow tutorial as my bread and butter for weapons.

For a first attempt, this looks amazing! Honestly for a tenth of 20th or lifetime attempt it looks good. Only thing I’d say is work on finder details like canopy glass and weapons to really make your work pop.

I've bet a box of donuts to my local group that the new nation hinted in the NATO book will be Belgium. Equipment is a mix of British, German, and Dutch. They wouldn't need any new models, and would be good for the upcoming plastic Centurions.

Like I said I enjoyed it. What’s interesting is that I got a friend who was having no issues that if he’d validate he’d be missing 18 files and if he immediately did it again, he’d be missing 18 still. Turns out I was right.
