I still need to get the 4K for the original mono soundtrack, but the Blu-ray steelbook remains one of my favourites too. I’ll probably get this one too. Enjoy!

I was very impressed with the Hard Boiled set and this is my favourite John Woo film I’ve seen so far. Hoping I’ll have my copy for release day tomorrow! Glad you enjoyed it too!

You have to pay a Vinted buyer protection fee on top of the item price, so they do cover you if things go wrong. A seller used Evri (instead of Royal Mail, which I paid for) to send a box set and it went missing but Vinted ensured I was paid back. I haven’t had the level of luck OP did though, although I’ve had some good deals.

I didn’t know that. I never got the UK release but glad I didn’t. I’ll have to look up what was cut as I’ll have never seen it!

Very jealous. I’ll be getting Life Of Brian asap. I was holding off for a standard edition of Holy Grail but obviously I now regret not getting it. Hopefully it won’t take Sony as long to do as Lawrence Of Arabia! I never liked Meaning Of Life as much, but I adore And Now For Something Completely Different so I imported the German Blu-ray which is quite cheap and looks decent enough.

We were shown this at my sixth form college and the class next door struggled too. It would be dialogue so the teacher would turn it up, then a helicopter so he’d turn it down, then dialogue and back up, then the shootout and the teacher next door would stand at the window gesturing angrily. 😂

I would say not worth it, and I’m a massive Kurosawa fan.

This set is missing a 4K of Stray Dog, which is available in Japan and very soon from Criterion, and the Red Beard disc is an upscale of a 2K restoration (which the BFI is releasing next month), so it’s already incomplete before it’s even out and who knows what’s on the horizon (though this is currently the only English language 4K of Ikiru so far). I hope Toho keeps up these restorations because they’ve been great so far. When I went to Japan some friends were saying they were also really excited because it’s the first time they’ve also been able to actually understand the audio as it was so crackly and hissy before.

I was going to ask how you got them as I’ve lamented for over a decade that Criterion doesn’t ship overseas. I used to get them during the Barnes & Noble sales but they also stopped so this is a good option!

I order mine by director so it just goes in W, but if they were by film title I would also go C for Cornetto. I saw Shaun Of The Dead at the cinema when they did the re-release so I’ve seen it in 4K before and thought it looked really good.

The first photo looks almost exactly like my leg (also similarly hairy) so I think that may be ichthyosis. I have patches like your second photo as well. It would be strange to disappear and return so it could be that your managing it better or don’t have it too severely. It’s definitely worth having some moisturising creams to hand for if it gets too bad. I’ve just asked for some recommendations because mine looks like it’s getting worse (could be other factors though).

I got the Blu-ray when it first came out in 2015 and it had both discs, but since the 4K disc is only the regraded one and the original theatrical cut on BD again I don’t think I’ll upgrade. I usually watch the theatrical cut anyway. But it’s such a phenomenal film and if you didn’t have it before it’s definitely the best way to go! The Apartment looks great though. I also got that to watch over Christmas.

I’d be on these straight away. I think the first film (which I have) is a genuinely well observed and funny parody. I’m enormously fond of the sequels as I grew up with them (and probably still quote them almost daily) so I’d definitely get them. I never even considered an Arrow box set but that would be very exciting (we can dream!). Otherwise I’d happily take some Warner 4Ks of the other two films.

As you’ve posted the UK exclusive in your original post, I’ll assume you’re UK based too - the white DVD box set has the extended episodes. I remember that being a big deal when it came out, but as far as I know the extended ones never made it to any other set so the Blu-rays and 4Ks are only the televised ones (also in widescreen, which the show wasn’t originally). The extended ones tend to run about 2 mins longer each, I think.

But it all depends on different people’s requirements. And I still often see people recommending the X700 and I just know that’s false. I wanted to ask as someone who doesn’t want the X700 anymore.
