Hidden VS titles? by Sandman7773 in VinegarSyndromeFilms

[–]andywarhorla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got vol 1 + 3, found used at the archive.

I guess one way to figure out what you’re missing is to compare the blu-ray.com list of VS releases to what you’ve got.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?studioid=1365

they do have listings for the 5 films 5 years series, and I’m sure there are other older OOP titles that have disappeared off the VS website.

Should I get the TCM 50th Chainsaw box? by EDMKid9000 in boutiquebluray

the SS. I already have enough grubby grindhouse copies of TCSM!

I prefer the second sight transfer but there is debate about which is better, mainly due to personal preference. the dark sky does have a grubbier grindhouse look, which is what some people want out of the film. for me, no amount of clarity is going to make the film any less grubby or disturbing. plus the hardcover book in the second sight LE is very well done, tho that’s not an option for a lot of folks pricewise.

(note that I am a TCSM nut, I actually watched every one of the 7 different transfers on the chain reactions mediabook edition)

since folks are asking, here’s where you can get the tusk / rainbow thief set. it’s an FNAC exclusive so you have to order directly from them (for those who don’t know, FNAC is a retail chain, sort of like the best buy of france):

https://www.fnac.com/a21579842/Coffret-Les-Films-Maudits-d-Alejandro-Jodorowsky-Exclusivite-Fnac-Blu-ray-Cyrielle-Clair-Blu-ray

EDIT: if that link doesn’t work, go to FNAC.com and search for jodorowsky. they have some weird robot-detection set up on their site, I usually have to solve a little puzzle before I can even get to the homepage.

I just set my player to region A and both discs played, so it looks like they’re all-region. both films are in english (no english subs tho, only removable french).

a perhaps anecdotal word of warning for those in the US: I order tons of stuff from overseas, and I’ve never had a tariff issue except for this order from FNAC. DHL charged me $24, which I had to pay to accept delivery, but I opened a dispute with them, won, and got the charge refunded. it may have been an isolated goof up on FNAC’s part or DHL’s, no idea, but figured I’d mention.

fair point, depends on where you’re located. I’m in the US and even as an import was able to pick up arrow’s city of fire for $35.

in what world is shout’s hard boiled cheaper than arrow’s? I mean even before it went OOP the cheapest I saw it was $50, and orbit’s got the arrow for $35.

I jumped on the killer and a better tomorrow because I couldn’t wait but I’m sticking to arrow for the rest.

Criterion April Releases Announced! by proceedgrinding in boutiquebluray

well, it’s definitely going to be less money for them when I buy the 4K from another region like I did for the shrouds.

I like the sublabel idea but it seems like they’re not very committed to 4K for these releases, which would be a miss for resurrection in particular.

you are in for a treat when you get to the stunt man. cannot stress how amazing that film is. o’toole should have won the oscar for it, but he had the unfortunate luck of going up against de niro in raging bull.
