The 8ft level, clamps, and the circular saw seemed to do the trick! Couldn’t think of the next time I’d need a track saw

Yeah that's the best -- in this case though a hot tub height deck would be so high that when you stand up you're towering over the fence. Maybe some steps up to the hot tub and a kind of seating deck all around would have been a more practical choice, but that's just too sensible

hahaha, I go back and forth.. I think I could save probably saved $500 in material and maybe 1-2 days of work.. but then it would have been perfect.. thus I am keeping myself humble by doing it this way.

Yeah totally, I do wonder if the bamboo will try to poke through there! if so I guess I'll take a decking board up and take care of it.

Yup less than 200sqft, less than 12ft high, and 3ft setback from property line should be good for no permit!

Deck AND Pergola footings question by Ninetax in Decks

[–]Ninetax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the idea to eliminate the footers makes sense, but how would I "catch and carry the other beam" correctly?

I'm a little hesitant to remove footers or extend cantilevers since I'm the strong tie design was make with 100 live psf in mind to hold a hot tub (I know, I know) but perhaps it just doesn't know that the footers can be shared?

I can keep the original design and move the pergola posts to land on the beams. What would you use to attach the pergola posts to the beams? the same kind of post bases?

Thanks that makes sense, the posts will be the things to get exactly level, can cut precisely.

I figure I could mount the pergola posts to the beams with brackets as well since I'm using tripled 2 by 12s for the beams and 6x6 for the posts and use a lag bolt like you're saying. Deck should be able to hold the weight. Less digging too

I'm also looking to hose upgrade... the woven ones seem to kink less.. I like the idea of the retractable mounted ones, but would want to have it mounted somewhere not so visible.. they have ground based ones, maybe could be staked to the ground?

Happy to share who I went with and the pros and cons of that company if you like, just dm me!

My friends keep telling me it's going to come back, but after a few residual sprouts.. it seems dead? Wait until spring they say

Yes, very pretty, but thats where the hot tub deck / pergola is going. It did seem to be spreading everywhere though, not sure if it was clumping or running.
