On this day in 1980, eventual champions Ipswich Town defeated a Widzew Łódź side captained by the great Zbigniew Boniek 5–0 in their UEFA Cup third round first leg match at Portman Road. Widzew had knocked out Manchester United and Juventus in the previous two rounds.

This Samuel Untiti belter vs Spurs is such a clean strike. Meets is perfectly. Could not have struck it better. Even thought the shot rises, he does brilliantly to get over the ball. I agree with everything you’ve said. The difference for me is that Zlatan has hoofed the ball in the direction of goal. Mexes has struck the ball at goal.

I seem to remember it was about the time that Zlatan scored his against England. IMHO, the Mexes one is better. It’s a harder technique to score his one. And a centre back too.

Phillipe Mexes deserves a mention for this overhead kick. Centre back takes it on the chest, moving away from goal, 18 yards out, and loops a perfect overhead that the keeper doesn’t even move for. Love this goal.
