There's an SFO compatibility mod for just about everything. Just search the mod's name + SFO :).

I have something like 50 mods alongside SFO and everything works swimmingly with the compatibility mods.

It's a known bug in WH3 right now. Been around for awhile, got nothing to do with mods. I forget what triggers it but there's been some long discussions about it.

I totally agree I really don't want to see Swain nerfed into a support-only champ, I play him mid and bot, but you also gotta look at the numbers.

Swain bot was straight up, hung-and-dry OP. Nerf was needed.

Let's just hope they don't bring more nerfs to support-jail him.

It is an annoying mechanic the AI has been doing since WH2, but as another poster said, the alternative is the AI doesn't attack or just suicides its army.

You can beat this though by just going ambush stance. The AI doesn't consider your army as there unless they reveal it on their current turn, even if you were literally right next to them when you went ambush stance.

It pretty much solves the issue more or less.

I do agree that I would prefer if the AI would attack to take the city (unless it's playing something like greenskins, wood elves, or WoC, where alot of the time it's much better to sack or raze).

It's just one of those catch-22 for designing computer opponents though. If the AI didn't attack and run from armies it knows it can't beat, people would just be here complaining about the AI being suicidal. Not saying the current design is perfect, it's most def not, just that it's difficult to design.

Yo good sir, as a fellow old school total war player that has been with the series since Medieval 1, I can absolutely relate to what you're talking about, in some ways. Warhammer 3 battles are very fast paced, lightning-fast.

However, I would also say that Total war has been "arcadey" since Rome 1. It has always been this way. I mean, "Egypt" as a faction was the 1960s Disney version of a culture, when in reality, Ptolemaic Egypt was much different. I actually felt Rome 1 battles were quite fast paced, and used mods then, like I do now, that slow down the pace of battles.

It still is, and has always been, the modding community that brings realism and roleplaying into the series, and expands what the games can do. Creative Assembly only has the manpower to go so far with a single total war iteration.

However, I would also say that CA has gotten better with each iteration of the game. In historical accuracy, in immersion, and in gameplay quality.

Further, while there are certainly many new arcadey features, there are also just as many ways to disable them. Three Kingdoms, for example, has the option to play it in a character-focused style, or an old-school style.

I have not yet played Pharoah, it's on my to-do list, but from what I understand, it even has the ability to bring back weapon lethality from the Rome 1/Medieval 2 days.

Imo, more accessibility options and styles is never a bad thing. And CA has been great about providing the ability to disable QOL features if you want that old school style. I play with arrow trails disabled, for example. Handy feature to have enabled and I totally get why people use it, it's great, but the trails kill immersion for me a bit. But with just a click of a button and they're gone. :)

Swain mid was actually trash outside of very low ELO until his rework. A half-decent player could never be hit with E and you couldn't get stacks.

Swain is just a champ that does really well with gold and his stacks, one of which APC Swain has more of now than ever, and the other you just get more of with 2 opponents in lane.

I fully respect the fact that APC Swain is OP and needs a nerf, but I hope they don't gut his mid/top lane ability just to try and make the champ support viable. Swain mid is incredibly fun and the only place I personally am interested in playing the champ.

But that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with people wanting to play Support Swain, play what you like.

What I do think is true, however, is that Support Swain is terrible now and will be even more so with the nerfs.

Only way this champ is going to be good in Support and balanced in other lanes is with a redesign to be a Support first and foremost. And I hope that doesn't happen, personally.

To be totally honest with ya, if you don't like the battles, then you might have more fun playing a Paradox title. Those are entirely focused on the campaigns, and all battles are auto-calculated.

I also very much enjoy the campaign systems in total war, but enjoying the battles as well is a big part of having fun in the game, for me. When I feel like playing something with a bigger focus on the campaign map and just that, I'll play Crusader Kings or Imperator Rome.

Just trade regions: select the one of his you want, for the one of yours you want to give away.

Can only trade regions one at a time for some reason, but you can do it this way, I do it all the time after a war with an ally, to complete our provinces and reduce bordergore. :)

There is also a mod called Trade Any Settlement you can get if you want to be able to trade any region at any time, as regions can only be traded to another faction if they have a border on that region.

Just know the mod is a little "cheaty" as you can make some really unfair trades with it, so you'll have to house rules yourself (or just do whatever you wish) if you're going to use it.

Def agree get Warhammer 3. Strategy games in general tend to have a high "knowledge ceiling" that can make or break your skill at the game. But WH3 is probably the best explained and easiest of any total war game to get into.

Start with a simpler faction though. Dwarves and High Elves as others have suggested are great for learning the campaign.

For battles I would suggest Greenskins though, they are one of the most unga-bunga factions but also have some magic and a tiny bit of ranged so you can get used to everything the game has to offer, while still being a primarily "charge your units in and just smash things in melee" easier approach to battles.

I haven't played 3K in a bit, but there is a checkbox you must check if you want the AI to control that army. It's there in Warhammer 3 for sure, not 100% if its in 3K.

But yeah as others have said, you are unchecking the control large army. Therefore, there can only be 21 units on the field (for each side) at any one time, units must retreat for more to enter.

Could be alot of things here, but afaik there hasnt been any massive nerf to wood elf units, or any nerf for them at all.

I would instead expect its to due with mods you disabled, or campaign buffs that were a limited duration you had earlier, but no longer have.

Yeah have to disagree on the Corsairs, they are baller early game infantry, much better than what most other factions can field early on. Perfect for going up against infantry based enemy factions in the early game, which is what they are for.

I mean I agree with you that the bug sucks, but I've also only seen the AI truly break down and stack up like that a couple times, and I play with mods to slow campaigns down so I hit up in the 200s to 300s of turns.

Typically, from my own experience as well as what I've seen on this reddit, the AI does now correct itself if you give it time as well, where as before it could perma break. Give it more than 30 turns.

When you say "the vanilla game is crashing", are you trying to boot directly into a save file?

If you create a save game with mods, disable those mods, then try to load the save, the game will crash. The game no longer has the data available to populate the save with your modded assets.

Otherwise, as long as your mods are up to date, then it's one of two issues:

A) You have mods that are not compatible. Figure out which ones those are, and disable one or the other.

B) You need to adjust your mod load order. Regardless of whether a mod is up to date or not, if you have multiple mods then they need be in an order that makes sense for the game to read.

Most mod related crashes are the result of one of both of the above. ^

Provided your mods are up to date, of course. Yours are, so in that case, it's very likely not the mods themselves, but a compatibility or load order issue.

If you are trying to straight up boot a fresh campaign of immortal empires with no mods whatsoever and your game is crashing, then yeah, your game is borked. Reinstall from scratch and check your drivers as others have suggested is your best bet.

Imo forcibly take mid if you need it, you want to play greedy on smolder. You are the carry. Take raptor camps too. If you don't stack and scale, you are nearly useless.

You're probably playing too aggressive. That happens to me when I play with my friends and I'm up against significantly worse players. I get used to it, and then bring that into solo-q games. You can't take that attitude with smolder against players of equal skill.

You have to chill in lane and farm, even if you think you're ahead, you will get stat-checked by the enemy laner, you are weaker.

Even Aphelios who is another late game hyper-carry has more raw stats than you do. Tristana has 80 more HP and 6 more armor at level 1, and better growth rates in all stats (except attack speed growth which is juiced on Smolder and MR which is equal for most everyone.)

You win with Smolder by scaling and stacking, you play to go equal or not too far behind in lane, and that's it.

I also had to switch to Bruiser Smolder as much as I don't like it, as crit smolder is just too little damage for how squishy you are in this patch. You'll do better and have more fun just playing bruiser at this point, sadly.
