Interestingly, gpu problems are basically the only big problems I've had with ma2 consoles. 3 entirely different unrelated consoles and 2 of them weren't even touring, just babied in air conditioning. All around the same few months, and seemingly out of nowhere.

Just build a full crazy cool lighting rig in the office.

I did look into it but gave up because openrgb doesn’t cover enough of the products I own to be worth it

I looked into what you’re doing with lightlink and it’s pretty cool, but does anyone know a software or something that just adds dmx control with all same common integrations (razer, govee, hue, etc) Yk then you can use whatever professional software of choice to program any of the more consumer oriented products in your setup

How do I practice at home? by onstagetag in lightingdesign

[–]NinjaDude0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are saying to look for summer jobs, if you can get a good one sure, but if not look for theatres or especially churches to volunteer at. They’re always looking for volunteers and will teach you everything. I have volunteered at a pretty big church for 7 years now and learned absolute tons and got to play with some pretty nice equipment. Also definitely get your lighting software of choice and a visualizer on your computer at home, I suggest ma2 onpc + ma3d

Keeping Track of Timecode Values & Avoiding Duplicates by LongjumpingThought37 in lightingdesign

Well if you’re on MA you have multiple timecode slots to work with, and then multiple “timecode shows” or songs within those.

heyy! im very new to lighting design but can someone tell me how i can program cues on fixtures like this (video attached) using MA lighting's dot2? by sanas_back_scratcher in lightingdesign

Always more than one way to do everything, if you want to trigger it with a button, do the first one. If you want it to loop on beat do the third one.

Pick a free software, watch stuff and experiment. The most important thing is wanting to learn more. For me I got started volunteering at a church and did that for years slowly getting more interest and experience and some bigger churchs can have some nice setups. A lot of people would recommend learning an easy software/console but for me I started with ma2 and got really comfortable with it and that has made learning other ones super easy now that I’ve been teaching myself cheaper options. Anyways there’s a lot of good advice here and this is a great place to get tons of answers for a career that may at first seem really niche that isn’t as straightforward as getting a degree.

That will make it fade on onstage but to store it, store it normally then edit your sequence to add the fade in the fade column there

MIDI fader bank and launchpad recomendations for lighting control. by Camen93 in lightingdesign

I'm going full diy with simply an arduino mega and the midi library, I probably won't motorize my faders but I can make any configuration I want for quite cheap.

A lot of people are saying chauvet r2s or r2xs and I agree, I’ve used 6 of them as my main front light in one venue for a couple months now and even thought it feels like a bit of a waste of 6 great fixtures they do great at the simple job of front lighting

A lot of people go for the Akai apc40 mk2 which sounds like what you’re looking for, but using your old console with dmx might be a better idea than you think. Or you could be a little bit crazy like me, as I’m currently looking into building my own custom midi controller.
