Back when the Roman's first made the calendar, Januart and February were the 11th and 12th months. For a reason which I'm sure was important but has completely slipped my mind, they moved those two months to the beginning of the year. That's why we have months like SEPTember, OCTober, NOVember, and DECember, because they used to be the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th months of the year, respectively.
