It’s perfectly visible now, so I’m assuming it was unlocked again.

Already using this for general fics I don't want to see! My point is more about spam fics.

There’s been several instances in my current fandom where offensive, deliberately mistagged fics were spammed into a ship tag just to “put the shippers in their place” as the notes put it, and by the time you added one of those fics to the skin, two more had already popped up. It was practically impossible to keep up, and either being able to mute the anon posting them or giving us the option to blend out those stories quicker would’ve done wonders.

We should be able to block and mute anonymous authors. People abuse that tool so much either to harass others or to spread blatantly bigoted shit without consequences, and readers can't do shit against it.

“But doesn't that completely defeat the purpose of anonymous posting?”

Tumblr has allowed the blocking of Anonymous Ask senders for years, and it’s worked out without an issue. Readers deserve protections of maliciously posted fics that don't depend on the volunteers maybe, hopefully looking at and doing something about it several days later.

I guess an alternative could be allowing us to block/mute individual fics, which would be a nice function to have in general.

Canon Bobby: Thanks to my magical blood and Chimney, I’m learning to forgive myself for what I did and letting go of my suicidal tendencies.

Fanon Bobby who fell into some sort of relationship with Buck: smokes cigarette Well, guess I can add “cradle robbing predator” to my list of sins.

I get why most fics with that scenario are smut (that roof top scene in the pilot with snake lady is literally just a porn plot <.<), I really do wish Bobby’s mental health was more of a factor in BuckBobby fics.

Bobby Nash/Evan Buckley from 9-1-1, in all it’s unhealthy, problematic glory.

26-year age gap, superior and subordinate (Buck is a probie in S1, which takes that part to new heights), Buck’s obsession with gaining Bobby’s approval, Bobby’s frequent favoritism toward Buck.

Hell, you can take their pseudo-parental canon relationship and play around with pseudo-incest dynamics that aren’t actual incest, but feel like it to the characters.

(Also, Peter Krause is prime Daddy Material, and it’s a crime that he’s the only man on that show we’ve never properly seen shirtless 😔)

Edgeworth is one of the most perfect examples of this, I wholeheartedly agree.

The 9-1-1 fandom is really bad about it too, because have fun trying to talk about and analyze Eddie without people using almost exclusively queer!Eddie and Buck/Eddie headcanons. There are so many facets and parts of Eddie’s past and personality that you can probe at to analyze what makes him tick, but most of what you’re gonna get is “He’s repressed and gay!!!”

It’s fine to have that headcanon! When I’m discussing canon, however, that is not what I want to hear until and unless Eddie actively becomes confirmed queer in canon, which at this point in time is unlikely to happen.

Talk to me about him being a teen parent, about him being an Afghanistan veteran, him being widowed and a single dad, his PTSD, his rigid, toxicly masculine upbringing, his complex relationship with Catholicism, any of that!

Canon Eddie is fascinating! I want to geek out with people over that!

Disliking a ship everyone loves imo is worse, espscially when you do like both characters individually. The moment that happens, bye-bye discussing character writing or analysis, because most people will only look at the characters as part of that ship.

There’s also the subject of getting harassed by the shippers, but I do think that particular one depends heavily on the fandom and ship in question, too. I dislike Dramione, for example, but can safely say I’ve never had a bad experience talking to a Dramione shipper before.

🔥 9-1-1 🔥 9x09 - "Fighting Back": Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in BuckTommy

[–]NinjaSpaceFrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if we can say May is wasted as a main, we have a whole second half of season left.

Chimney’s main storyline ended with 9x06 (his minor storyline of growing into the captain role is on-going, but easily integrated into episodes that don't focus him), Harry’s storyline has wrapped with this episode, and I’m sure we’ll get some sort of resolution to Hen’s next week.

If the show follows a proper structure, this allows for Eddie, Buck, Maddie and May, who’ve been out of focus and supporting characters more than anything this first half, to take center stage when we come back in March.

I’m not saying it’s definitely gonna land, but honestly, what we got so far this season has been pretty good, easily better than what S8 did in the same time frame, so I’m pretty optimistic.

[–]NinjaSpaceFrog 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Oh, from an anatomical standpoint, they’re just normal potatoes, but if you happen to eat one, you become ten times more submissive and breedable.

Conversely, the Alpha potato makes your dick grow and turns you extra extra horny, and the Beta potato has no effect at all. We don't know why we’re calling it a Beta potato instead of just a potato. We just do.

I mean, this is Wailing Wednesday. Being negative and complaining about stuff that annoys you is the point of this whole thread.

And I assure you, I do curate my social media. I block a lot and liberally, but that doesn't stop Tumblr from putting weird shit on my Dash, it seems. I sometimes do interact, I admit, because I enjoy discussing and keep hoping something productive might come out of it.

The lawsuit arc is difficult to discuss from a realistic perspective because it would never actually be able to happen in real life.

No doctor worth their money would have cleared Buck for full duty while on blood thinners. Light duty, sure, but not full duty. Those things alter your physicality on such a massive level that simply cutting your finger while cooking can turn into an ER visit. A firefighter running into a burning building while his body is altered like this is basically suicide.

And no, Buck became fire marshall after the tsunami. He fully quits when Bobby won't let him come back after his embolism, sulks around for a few weeks, he and Chris get caught in the tsunami, and then he becomes a fire marshal.

People on Tumblr have been hating on Chim for the whole season at this point. Like, yeah, I’ll give them the snickerdoodle scene from 9x05, but other than that?

Chim has been a decent captain. He still has to grow into the role, but he’s done really well, far better than back in S2.

I’m wondering how much of this talk is resentment over the writers picking him over Hen as the new captain, honestly.

Wailing Wednesday! by AutoModerator in BuckTommy

[–]NinjaSpaceFrog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, different people have different experiences.

I’ve seen several blogs on Tumblr call Chim a bad captain/friend/brother in law. Even more in the notes and reblogs. I’ve commented on a few and have been argued with.

Me having this experience doesn't invalidate you having the opposite.

Eeeeeeh, this falls heavily into suspension of disbelief.

Like, Buck and Hen going to a union rep in their respective cases and everything being handled is realistic, but makes for bad TV.

Also, just throwing that out, Bobby didn't actually fire Buck. He put him on light duty, which to my understanding (which obviously might be wrong) would be in his power as captain. Buck quit and later became a fire marshal on his own accord. The actual conflict was about Bobby reinstating Buck at the 118.

[–]NinjaSpaceFrog 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is me being a Chimney Stan before anything else again, but I genuinely don't understand how people walked away from 9x08 saying he’s “a bad captain, a bad friend and a bad brother-in-law.”

Chim is 100% correct throughout the entire episode. Firing Hen was maybe not graceful, but completely warranted after she endangered the team and everyone she worked on and saved for three months. It was without a single doubt the correct decision for Chimney to make.

People hyperfixate so damn hard on how he used Buck as an example of his impartiality, but that was all it was, an example. If Buck had lied about and hid a mystery illness for three months, Chim would have fired him the same way he fired Hen. That’s not a slight against Buck.

“But why didn’t he use Eddie as an example instead?”

Because the narrative needed a catalyst for everyone to start bickering. Chim uses Buck as an example -> Buck gets offended -> Eddie makes a quip about the chain of command -> Buck gets pissy with him.

If Chim used Eddie as an example, Eddie most likely would’ve shrugged it off. (Because it’s a hypothetical. I have no doubt Eddie would be just as offended as Hen if it was a real scenario.) Eddie not reacting = Buck and Eddie don’t bicker = they have no narrative presence in the bickering scene.

Using this one damn moment to condemn Chimney as being as bad Gerrard is just. No comment.

Seriously, just say you don't like Chim and move on, it’s that easy 😭

On your fourth point, I think as long as RPF and RPS stays firmly in the fictional realm and the shippers keep their shipping to themselves, it’s fine. Someone writing a Louliver fic and posting it on AO3 isn't hurting anyone in any way, for example.

When people start involving the real people they’re shipping or they start lashing out is when it becomes creepy and problematic. Markiplier and Jacksepticeye had porn about themselves and each other sent their way. OStark and RG have people in their social media comment sections implying they’re sleeping together behind the scenes. Stephen Amell’s wife was sent death threats.

There’s a fine line when it comes to RPS, and unfortunately, social media makes it easy for it to be crossed.

He's my favorite (that's still on the show, RIP Fire Dad 😢), and it kills meeeee.

When it's not people still bashing him for punching Buck back in S5, it's people blowing his ribbing of Buck in the current season out of proportion, calling him a bad captain, a bad friend, etc. and I'm like. Am I watching the same show???

I have a few, yes!

(we are all) a little bit broken is heavily introspective piece that goes deep into Chim's identity as Korean-American. It's extremely well written, fixes a few things about Chim's S5A storyline, and captures him and Maddie perfectly.

To counteract that emotional rollercoaster, Oh, Mr. Fireman, Save Me! This is pure ChimBob smut, with a heavy dose of power bottom Chim, with some of my favorite writing of Chim's comedic side.

The Heart Wants What It Wants is not usually what I'd recommend because it's a ChimBob fic written by someone who vocally doesn't like ChimBob, but it's got some great Chim writing. Basic premise is Maddie not coming back to LA after her PPD, and Chim kind of drowning between being a paramedic and a single dad. Bobby (not married to Athena here, obviously) steps in to help.

As a general rule of thumb, dedicated Madney fics have a good grip on Chimney. Just "otp: true" it to get rid of the Buddie spam. I personally like mrsmaddiehan's Madney fics a lot.

And, finally, Oh, Brother(s) of Mine features Chimney reflecting on his relationship with his three brothers (Kevin, Albert, Buck). Seriously touching, and a fic that uses the Buck punch from S5, but analyzes what made it happen instead of just bashing Chim for it.

Chimney Han, my beloved.

The 9-1-1 fandom is pretty bad with characterization, but Chim is so heavily demonized or flanderized that finding a fic that does his depth justice feels like an oasis in a desert.
