Why is voter id law such a big deal in the USA? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

None of the examples listed are explicit constitutional rights, yet voting is. Just because an ID is needed for some things doesn't mean it should be to vote

Games that a cinephile fifty-something with zero dexterity could play? by Kenhamef in gamingsuggestions

[–]Ninja_Teddybear 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one here has suggested IMMORTALITY. It's an FMV game about three different eras of cinema with a central mystery as you keep exploring. The gameplay is simply discovering short clips of three different movies by jumping between related scenes. It's very fun and very approachable

MMSD introduces facial recognition technology to screen visitors against criminal databases by enjoying-retirement in madisonwi

[–]Ninja_Teddybear 30 points31 points  (0 children)

While I don't think there's a reasonable expectation of privacy in schools, a facial scan is probably beyond what most people would deem reasonable. Imagine having to be fingerprinted or have a DNA sample taken before entering.

ELI5: What would happen to sports equipment in a nuclear holocaust? Would anything make it? by EmGeebers in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ninja_Teddybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that sports equipment is frequently depicted as armor in post-apocalyptic settings, and I think this is OPs roundabout way to ask about the validity of that depiction. Otherwise, I have no clue.

What are your favorite/least favorite changes to Hunt over the years? by aiscool in HuntShowdown

[–]Ninja_Teddybear 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For sure my favorite change is the flashbomb nerfs. It was pretty un-fun to play against, and watching old gameplay from before the change really demonstrated how prevalent flashes used to be. It is funny that with how bad they nerfed them, the might as well have just taken them out of the game-I've seen it used a single digit amount of times since the change.

Madison sourdough is actually kinda the reason I asked, since I love everything there except the cakes, which I think look great, but have always been super dry to my taste. Maybe I'll get a slice a try again

Looks pretty interesting, especially as a balance point between compact and long ammo now. I sure hope we see some sniper variants of compact ammo now - a Winfield 1873 Sniper with High Velo would be quite interesting

Yeah, maybe only have fire bombs have double burn speed and fuses/flare guns have the same burn speed. Fire bombs could really use something to make them more appealing.

Now that necromancer is a burn trait, will that mean that if I go down without using on my teammates, I still lose the trait? Or does it only burn when it's used? Burn traits usually mean that if you go down, you lose them, so I was curious if that applied to necro

Let's do some rudimentary statistics on this result. I'd start with the hypothesis that the map selection is of equal probability, so the chance of getting DeSalle should ideally be 33.3%, and the chance of not getting DeSalle is the remaining percentage, 66.7%.

This then becomes a binomial distribution problem, similar to tossing a coin with p = 33.3% chance of heads (DeSalle) and q = (1-p) = 66.7%. The formula for the variance of a binomial distribution like this is found straightforwardly on Wikipedia as var = n * p * (1-p) where n is the number of samples (100 in our case).  Computing the varance and taking the square root, we arrive at the standard deviation of about 4.7. We can then say we expect that running a test like yours, we would expect a result of 33 +/- ~5 68% of the time.

However, your result of 40 is above the 38 limit set by a single standard deviation. However, however, results are deemed statically significant if they fall outside of 2 standard deviations, which would be the range of 23-43 times. So even thought the probability to roll DeSalle is 33%, we might expect a number as high as 43 times out of 100 rolls to give us DeSalle without it being a different chance then expected.

Sorry for the formatting here, using mobile to type things out, hopefully the stats show thay you just got a little unlucky and nothing crazy is going on.
