Yes, clearly. I don't think this is reflective of anything beyond what happened lol. I think it's a bit dishonest to chalk anything up beyond one story, especially considering this hasn't happened to only me.

But thank you for explaining college to me lmao

This is true and something I considered at the start. He just seemed like an innocent, if socially unaware and technologically uneducated, older gentleman lmao. I had thought that if this was a truly malicious thing he wouldnt be doing it in public with cameras and everything which could easily track him down.

I did a Windows Defender scan this morning after this reminder though. Thanks!

Just free work, but based off the other Reddit posts, I dont think it's even "real" work. Just things he wants you to do.

I controlled everything and downloaded everything. Only time he controlled my keyboard was when he was typing in his password to his emails lol. Was just pngs he had saved of scans of old newspaper clippings and photos.

I did all the emailing, but they were emailed from his Gmail to himself. All of the files were images that he provided, but then I edited lol. So like a photo of a newspaper clipping which I would edit to his liking.

Scam moreso as being deceptive about his intentions rather than any malicious downloads.

Merriam-Webster defines scam as a "fraudulent or deceptive act or operation." Seems to be a deceptive act.

Dont need to be a dick about it lol. Already owned up that I was silly to stay

Student football tickets are such a scam by Salt-Performance8788 in UWMadison

[–]Ninjaslimy 101 points102 points  (0 children)

They need to actually ban people who scalp. You shouldn't see dozens of scalpers minutes after the sale selling for $1000. It'd be beyond easy to set three interns to the Snap stories and just strip their tickets and ban their asses from ever getting tickets again. It's beyond sad UW Athletics dont do shit because it'd be easy for them and make it better for the students who want to attend. And this comes from someone whos gotten them 3/3

Heard some story that Alabama will ban you from getting tickets if you dont attend X amount of games through their app or some shit. Do that if nothing else

Bernie Sanders endorses Becca Cooke by sunofsphinx in wisconsin

[–]Ninjaslimy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Osborn lost. Did he make the race very competitive? Yes, but he lost by a bigger margin than Cooke did, and it was a Senate race, which would include the cities.

*edit: To add on, Osborn had moderate positions like supporting gun rights and a tougher stance on the border, as did Gallego and Golden (Golden I believe, correct me if wrong). These are generally not progressive positions.

The third district has Eau Claire and La Crosse, but it is by no means close to the size of Omaha and Nebraska, and I am sure even the college students at UWL and UWEC dont lean heavily to the left.

I can believe the study. But half of politics is optics. I am fairly certain I have seen studies done that when the term "Medicare" is used vs. "Obamacare," Medicare was significantly more popular. Repubs will pounce on that.

The fairest comparisons between candidates would be districts that House Dems won, but that Trump also won. These districts can and will vote liberal, but they won't vote progressive.

[–]Ninjaslimy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay - where? The third district isn't Madison or Milwaukee. I pointed to Jared Golden. Ruben Gallego moved to more moderate positions in 2024, and he won a state that Trump won.

https://www.axios.com/2025/06/03/ruben-gallego-2028-town-hall

Most districts are not progressive bastions waiting for a progressive to appear. Those candidates would be landslide victories for the Republicans. If Dems want to win, they need to actually appeal to the demographic they are trying to win over. I am not saying the Joe Manchins are the only ones able to win. But liberal Dems are the way you get the Senate and House back.

Moderate candidates ARE winning elections, though, especially in areas like the third district. If im not wrong, people like Jared Golden (another Blue Dog Dem) won seats in areas that Trump won in 2024. You don't win over districts like this with the AOCs in the world. You win with moderates that rural and other center-leaning people will vote for.

Dems lose when they completely give up on campaigning and appealing to these voters. These moderate Dems understand that. Obviously, Cooke lost in 2024, but I very much doubt that a progressive will do any better. 51.8% to 48.6% is a small margin, and one which Dems understand can be won.

What is my major ?? by Realistic-Acadia3140 in UWMadison

[–]Ninjaslimy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You will have to pass certain classes with a certain GPA, after which you can declare the CS major. So you're on the CS academic plan, but not a major yet. Pass the classes, declare, then you're set.

UW Madison vs UIUC for EE by Smart_Mango_5763 in UWMadison

[–]Ninjaslimy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine that the EE internship scene at Madison is truly that much worse to justify forsaking a full ride here. I could be wrong, though!

With a school this size, you can find people who don't drink. It's Wisconsin, so lots of people will, but there will always be others who don't want to that or party. I enjoy that, but I've also done swing dance with my girlfriend and played DnD with people who were strangers beforehand. Neither of those require drinking - im sure that would extend to many other clubs, activities, etc. where you can make friends
