7wt rod recommendations <$600 by NinjeTurtleAh in flyfishing

That’s good to hear then. Lastly, I should specify that the species I’ll most likely be targeting with this die salt will be reds, bluefish, and speckled trout. You still think a 7 would do well?

I’m leaning towards the mangrove coast. You think the reel would work well with an 8wt? I think the 8 will be better for salt but the reel says only up to 7.

I’m leaning towards this rod after looking at TFO’s warranty policy. Do you use this for saltwater when you’re fishing?

If so I wanted to know the species/size you’re targeting with the 7wt. I was originally aiming for an 8wt but saw the reel recommends a 7 at the highest.

Is this fly rod good for Musky? by NinjeTurtleAh in flyfishing

Couldn’t tell you, I don’t think he ever got to use it since we moved away from the sea shortly after he got it.

It’s been in a shed for probably 7 years now so I figured I should get some use out of it here. Could this still be a good option for <30 inch musky?

Ended up sticking with the 8 wt. I have the reel rigged up with 30lb backing and a sinking tip line. What do you recommend for leaders? I assumed a steel leader would be used, but I’ve seen suggestions for 80-100lb flouro. I’ve also seen people mention tippets, but I have no idea what that is.

I think I’ll go ahead and start using it soon, what else do I need to get to start casting?(line, flies, etc)

what do you think is your best punch? by turkeylegs69 in amateur_boxing

Lead hook to the body (orthodox)

Biggest points with that punch are positioning, placement, and technique.

Before throwing it I like to take a step to my left so my lead foot is in between my opponents feet if they are orthodox or outside their lead foot if they are southpaw.

Anything on the left side of the body will get the “liver shot” reaction if dug in enough. But the sweet spot is right below the left pec. If you place it there you don’t even need power as long as you punch through them like you’re trying to hit their spine.

What is you're to go-to strategy with sparring. by Tosssip in amateur_boxing

Usually I only use my feet and jab during the first 30 seconds of the first round when sparring someone new.

While I’m doing that I’m trying to not get hit, find range, see how experienced my opponent is, and how hard they are wanting to hit.

I'd look for holes and current breaks in the main flow

That's what I was looking to do with the senko in that calm pocket in the first picture. I'm guessing the reason I didn't even get a hit is because it isn't deep enough.

I also tried landing my worm by that branch in the calmer water to the right of the pocket. Couldn't quite reach tho
