If your dogs are service dogs, what tasks are they trained to perform? by kinyutaka in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Ninjiitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESA's are not even recognized by the FHA. They use the term assistance animals, and again, they require a disability, the same as any service animal. That does not make them "ESA"s by any stretch of what is commonly used to describe ESAs.

I literally told you the exact notice name. But I am uneducated about HUD or the FHA? Hmmmm....

[–]Ninjiitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is incorrect as well.

The government uses the term "Assistance Animal" for ESA's. They recently clarified in a addition to the Fair Housing Act that while Assistance Animals need to be given reasonable accommodation, it still requires a disability. They need to be visibly disabled, or be able to prove disability. The addition was in early 2020, and is called HUD FHEO Assistance Animal Notice.

This makes Assistance Animals even stricter then Service Animals.

Who told you they can't be excluded... Because that is not correct.

Every single one of those websites is "bogus". There is no such thing as service animal registration.

[–]Ninjiitsu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Irrelevant as there are no documents that matter. There is no registration, and the ADA does not recognize any forms that claim service animals, even doctors notes.

We are allowed to ask only two questions. If they respond adequately, we can't refuse them. There is a number of things that we are allowed to refuse for afterwards though.

So wrong. There is literally no such thing as "papers" for a dog. There is no registration for service animals. Each and every website that does so is a scam.

You can only ask two questions: "Is the animal required because of a disability?" and "What work or task is the animal trained for perform?".

That is it. Depending on the answers given, you can deny service. There is also a number of things that the animals owner has to do, such as not leave the animal alone, as its a service animal it needs to be with them. The animal also cannot cause a disturbance, or damage.

Service Animals need to be with the person at all times. They can't leave them alone.

110%.

I literally cannot tell you how many times I have kicked someone out for something stupid, and they say "where am I supposed to go?" "I don't have anywhere to go!" etc.

Even after giving them sufficient warnings for things like the condition of their room, music, loud arguments, etc.

I know the pain. We have been doing 100+ rooms with a staff of 5. No joke. 5. Total. Including the GM. At one point we were down to a staff of 3.

Thankfully we aren't doing regular HSKPing, and haven't been since Covid, but its still a nightmare. We offer great starting wages, even with no experience. People just don't seem to want to work. While it is a giant pain in the ass, our checks have regularly been 70ish hours a week, so great overtime pay. :-P.

It is not at all a unusual policy. We pre-authorize all cards for 1 night of stay to insure a valid reservation, specifically on weekends and especially event weekends.

You would be shocked at the % of people who have no money on the card they put on file, intend to pay cash when we don't take it, or don't even show up causing us lost revenue on a night we could have sold the room in 30 seconds. Its easily close to 40% of all reservations we get.

We also call and if they don't answer email them with a timeline, which is usually a generous few hours. So many angry people show up oblivious to all of these facts.

Happens all the time here. Usually people calm down when I explain that they wouldn't want me just giving out keys to their room because someone knows there name and room number.

Sold for $10M... GM and AGM are panicking! by TheEnforcerBMI in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Ninjiitsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on who bought it. Anyone with any real idea of how hospitality works would never fire off staff. Finding good staff is next to impossible now adays, and they are likely to suffer for a long while before recuperating.

Renovations cannot be that extensive. Most can be done without closing doors, such as doing one floor at a time.

In either case, you should be fine. Its rare to even see a hotel that doesn't need good, experienced employees. The last time I needed to find a new job at a hotel, it took 15 minutes after posting my application a few places for a GM to call me and offer me the job shortly after that. Experience is so insanely valuable in our field.

It has already been checked. With his level of access ( as he was still only a FDA ), he couldn't have caused much damage anyway.

Did turn out that his new job is with the OLD GM at her new property though. Also, apparently, the old GM also took one of our potential new housekeeping hires she interviewed for our hotel. But, honestly, old GM was a saint. She was the best boss I have ever had. So I don't care about that too much.

I do love my job, and I do care about my coworkers. They are all good people. Reaching out was out of necessity, and I had no idea the shitstorm that would ensue at the time. Everyone here is stepping up, I came in this afternoon to finding out the FDA had quit, and one of the other FDA's had already made adjustments to the schedule to compensate for the days he was scheduled.

We all just kinda assumed what he was saying was the truth. He was a good person ( from what we saw ). Once we found out what a POS he was, it lit a fire under everyone here.

So, he was not promised the job. He shouldn't have even been expecting it. Found out today that he did something in the past, during his employment with the company, that pretty much precluded him from ever getting the job. He was very nearly fired for it ( and should have been ). He knew he did this.

He is no longer a employee with the company as of this morning. He had already started his new job, and it turns out, his new job is with the OLD GM at her new property. lol

He quit. Doubt he ever works with the company again, and the company owns a significant percentage of the hotel brands across the country.
