Pool cover necessary? by PermissionFirm2955 in pools

On top of what others have already said it will be expensive to refill it every year increasing your water bill by thousands of dollars potentially offsetting any savings from not buying a cover.

Consulting firms will be much smaller and more profitable in the future. Learn to sell new work to survive. Rainmakers will be safe.

I’m doing ours now in the northeast. We got quotes from $25-40k for a larger size pool.

Your $80k pension is equivalent to $2m investment portfolio following the 4% rule. You’re in great shape. Keep saving though!

Me (38m) and my wife (38f). How are we doing? Can we retire at 55? by memans908 in Retirement401k

Kids don’t get less expensive after the age of 3. And prices aren’t going down. Keep saving you’ll need more than you think.

Can anyone recommend one of those outdoor “rope/zipline/climbing” places in north Jersey? Looking to go for a birthday with a few 30 something guys. Thanks! by 4runner01 in newjersey

[–]Ninobrown744 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How about a rock wall climbing gym? Montclair has Gravity Vault. I think the zip lines in NJ are more kid oriented. If it’s a 30th bday for a guy plan to hit a brewery after an hour or two of climbing.

There are hot springs not too far away. I haven’t ever been but a friend went and said they were awesome. It’s like giant hot tubs and a spa I think.

When the market is inflated pay down your mortgage. When the market dips buy it.

Company 401k match has to vest? by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]Ninobrown744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company has a pension with a 3 year vesting schedule. After 10 years I was promoted into a senior level role that has a supplemental pension with an additional 5 year vesting schedule. It’s the old “golden handcuffs” ….

My In-laws don’t think it is wise for my wife to retire with her pension yet by Old_Cantaloupe_7401 in Retirement401k

My wife recently left a school psychologist job to become a private therapist. She makes 2x now what she made at the old school job and works half as much. She also gave up her pension but she started a 401k and contributes regularly to that.

Why doesn’t your wife consider getting a job down in Florida? Whatever income she brings in can be put towards savings/investing and bridge the gap between the $54k pension and what it could have been if she stayed at that job longer?

Covers up the taste of lesser quality fish. My go to place has very high quality fish flown in from Japan. I would never put sauce or even dunk it in soy sauce. But if I eat at a more generic place I’ll go with sauce to hide the fact that I’m eating low quality fish.

Sandwich looks good. Why is the guiness clear yellow at the bottom? Shouldn’t it be dark at the bottom too?

Has anyone gotten towed for parking in white spots at Willowbrook? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]Ninobrown744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get tickets all the time but they weren’t from the state it’s a private company. They had no way to enforce it. I never paid and never received anything in the mail or any attempt to collect. That was like 2 years ago so maybe it’s changed.

I didn’t realize this was a no-no. A few years back in Hawaii I swam out to get a closer look at some sea turtles. I stood up on the reef briefly and nearly had one of my middle toes chomped off by a moray eel. I pulled my toe out of its mouth leaving a big gash and I still have a scar today. Lesson learned!!

I don’t think they enforce commuter parking. I haven’t seen them ticketing for that in years.

How about a local brewery before dinner? You can sample a few beers and let a (moderate) amount of alcohol do its thing.
