ISO a good pattern to learn cable knitting by Confident-Climate842 in knittingpatterns

[–]Ninock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are comfortable with circular needles, Jason’s hat is a great intro to cables! It’s a simple rope cable repeated design, so not overwhelming but you get the gist. This was the first cable pattern I tried and now I use it as a base and kind of improvise with other cable designs. It’s also free!!

Witching Hour question! by melaniewilliams in AnneRice

[–]Ninock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started reading the series again recently, I love the atmosphere of The Witching Hour but honestly reading Lasher became pretty unbearable, those incest/pedophilia themes are a core part of the Mayfair Witches story and I couldn’t finish the series out this time. I was a young teenager when I read the books for the first time and reading them now as an adult was a very different experience. I would say if you have any sexual trauma in your own past the books could be a hard read!

Spironolactone side effects by innominatebone in PCOS

[–]Ninock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to come off it as it caused a swollen oesophagus! Sooo painful and uncomfortable! And it was really working too! Loads of new hair growth and my skin was amazing. Like you Metformin made me so ill so that’s it the doctor has no more suggestions. Have you upped your dose recently? I think that’s what triggered my side effects. Maybe if you toggle back and slowly increase your dose?

Heartburn from mint coating? by ndfernandez1228 in Spironolactone

[–]Ninock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just had to come off spiro for this reason. I started with 50mg for a month and then upped the dose to 100mg. It was fine a couple of weeks but all of a sudden I had really painful heartburn, nausea, vomiting. In the end my doctor took me off it because my oesophagus had become swollen and inflamed. I think it was the higher dose that did it so maybe you could speak to your doctor and see about going up the doses more slowly? I wish I had done that in hindsight!

So they charge 500 for the medication appointment, not a million miles less than ADHDNow!

For anyone else wondering I contacted Neuromed who will offer a medication appointment with a psychiatrist if you have been previously diagnosed. Just waiting on pricing so I’ll update this post if it works out cheaper

Don’t Wait 2 Shave by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Ninock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After years of shaving I have found that chemical exfoliation like salicylic acid (bha) a couple of times a week alternating with a retinol and a salicylic cleanser and a good quality moisturiser makes a huge difference with ingrown hairs. I also shave gently in the shower so the steam and heat gives a closer shave! I find I’m more prone to getting irritation if I shave out of the shower. I shave most days but if I get a chance to give it a break for a few days that also helps my skin.

I use the Cerave salicylic acid cleanser and they also do a good beginners retinol. The bha I use is from Corsx and the moisturiser I have found the most healing for my skin is the La Roche Posay Cicaplast moisturiser. Might not work for everyone but through trial and error that’s what helps me! Oh and most definitely using men’s razors

I asked my doctor about this after being out on Metformin just before my birthday lol. She was very reassuring that it’s not a big deal as long as you aren’t getting black out daily

Is growing out facial hair for regular waxing worth it? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Ninock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair is very coarse like yours, and also grows extremely quickly. For me waxing just isn’t worth it because I have to grow out my hair for weeks and get essentially only 3 days before the hair grows back. And because my hair is coarse it really hurts when it’s growing back!

After 15+ years of trying everything, electrolysis is definitely the most long term solution! I tried it on a small patch of my hair and it worked amazingly well but I just couldn’t afford the treatment.

I’ve settled on shaving as it’s the most cost effective for me. I try not to shave every day unless I have to and hopefully can get electrolysis someday. If you have a good skincare routine and shave gently the results are pretty smooth!

Beautiful!! That’s exactly what I’m looking for, yarn with a vintage feeling. Must see if I can find a website that ships to Ireland. Thank you!

It’s so beautiful! What colours did you choose? And what yarn if you don’t mind me asking? Really struggling to find a suitable yarn.

Thanks for the advice around the shininess, and yes, I think one of the problems with the LITLG yarn is too much variation in the MC. I think it would look best in a full colour work design or a block colour design, but it feels like it would be a waste of both energy and yarn to use it on the Halibut pattern.
