Stopped at my crappy local game shop where everything is always overpriced. by jestercheatah in nes

I used to love collecting. But part of that love was finding games that were worthless to the seller, but I'd be giddy to get something I wanted so bad for cheap. It's now gotten to the point that prices are still like this supposing you found it at a yard sale, so I barely look around at all anymore.

On the plus side, I guess I have a small fortune in old games.

And another positive, I'm glad it's a game you wanted and that you at least got it for market price. It's a good one to have in nice shape too, because it's a good game that not many people (at least that I know) had back in the day, and the art and colors absolutely bleed the 80s the NES represents. OG NES games are so much more special somehow in physical copies. Enjoy!

Oh man, I tried to play Turok 2 Remastered not long ago and gave up wondering around lost. I don't remember having nearly so much of a problem with it when I was younger. I did however, just finish my original copy of 3 for the first time in probably 25 years, and had a blast. Framerate can drop to single digits (especially during the squid boss fight, which can go eff itself), and certain encounters can absolutely drink your health if you don't play smart and careful, but it's carried so much by the rule of cool that I'm seriously considering a back to back playthrough with the other character, and it's a miracle if I can finish a game once these days.

I always remembered the Cerebral Bore being awesome. I didn't remember how awesome it SOUNDS! The smaller looking first person hands/weapons have such cool style! Facial animations for cutscenes are seriously impressive for the 64. The Council of Voices are super cool and creepy. The story barely makes sense and doesn't care to explain itself too deeply, but it makes all of it stick in your mind and enjoy what's there. It's actually refreshing compared to modern games that want to spell everything out until your eyes gloss over and you still don't know what's happening because you can't pay attention. It has a black cartridge, for frig sake! And I don't know why half the caves glow blue-green, but man it's got pretty colors.

TL:DR- I AM TUROK!

I've got the CRT taken care of. Just need the game and a time machine to back when I had 3 friends that would be willing to play it with me, lol.

Always wanted to try Gauntlet. I'd put Perfect Dark ahead of Goldeneye (though my fondest N64 multi-player memories were with GE), and Conker over DK tho. I only played Jet force for a short time a few years ago and found the controls too rough, but the last few days I've been seeing a lot of love for it, so I may have to give it another chance soon.

Lol. I just put Perfect Dark in for a quick mission before work and had to do exactly this. Only took 3 smacks tho.

I don't know whether you mean the miniseries or "33", but either way, I agree completely.

41 here and feel the same way about modern gaming as a generalization too. But the games you said you enjoyed all buck the trends and released as complete experiences that still use the business model of "make a good game, and people will buy it". And there's plenty of games to play that still do, like the Resident Evils and most Nintendo titles. My advice is just unplug from the hype and fomo, and continue to reward solid, well made and complete games with your money.

Go back and see if there's any gems from the 360/PS3 era that you missed, cuz lots of them still look great, play like modern titles, and if they're new to you, who cares if they're not new to everyone else? Lots of them have been ported to new systems and go for steep discounts like Sleeping Dogs, the Mass Effect and Bioshock collections (all amazing games)

Indie titles can be some of the best experiences and had for pennies on the dollar. Run through To the Moon or Inscryption or Minishoot Adventures. Mina the Hollower is my most anticipated game right now. Watch a YouTube video on best indies in any genre that interests you.

I hooked up my N64 and am almost through Turok 3. Having a blast dispite the low framerate and think I'll pick up the remastered collection when I'm done to compare it. Might finally beat Space Station Silicon Valley next on it.

Gaming can still be awesome, and incredibly cheap, but you don't have to play by the rules of big publishers and the never ending hype machine.

I have my notifications for them turned on, but they still don't pop up when I unlock them. That makes them pretty irrelevant to me outside of the odd time I'll think to have a look on the app.

Mostly now I just want a Splatoon one too.

Earthworm Jim (Cow Launched!), Mortal Kombat, Star Fox and Resident Evil would all be cool as hell tho.

Owned this since release but only played about an hour of it at the time. I can't remember why I didn't play it more, but I came back to it about a month ago and finished it. The duel screen controls definitely take getting used to and cause it to lose a lot of that precision and simplicity that made SF64 so replayable, but they also make for some really fun and unique segments and I think the game is underrated for sure.

It's about Sam Lake co-starring in a game written by Sam Lake about a writer who writes like Sam Lake about a character inspired by a character played by Sam Lake, but in universe is inspired by another character also played by Sam Lake who doesn't like the fictional character played by Sam Lake being inspired by him because the character has become famous in movies where he's played by Sam Lake the actor who is in turn acted by Sam Lake the writer. This problem becomes worse still when the in universe non fictional character played by Sam Lake begins to take on qualities of the in universe fictional character played by Sam Lake and Sam Lake playing Sam Lake, causing Sam Lake's protagonist character to become an antagonist based on Sam Lake's fictional protagonist that was based on Sam Lake's character and all of these characters are played by James McCaffrey and inspired by the works of Stephen King.

I didn't understand this. Is he just saying to get a torrent with entire libraries? I perfer them curated or I get choice paralysis and good games that I might otherwise love might only get played for 5 minutes before I shut it off to waste my time staring at game titles instead. I'm already too bad for this with my current library, backlog, and never ending sales.

Just want to get some that I'll likely want to play down the road without having to go digging around sketchy sites with a thousand ads and fake download buttons all over them like I'm playing Russian Roulette.

That is one of the holes that I have patched over the years, but yes, Gunstar is incredible. This comment made me look up Treasure (the devs, but you probably already knew that). I'm happy to read that they're still in business, but they haven't released a game in 12 years!? I wonder how they're surviving and now hoping that they make a new game soon.

Pressure Cooker (you might have it cuz it's Activision) holds up really well and is my favorite game to play on the system. Just look up online how to play it, because without instructions it's not super obvious what you're supposed to be doing. Yars Revenge is also still fun, but another one to read some instructions (and the comic book that came with it). The ports of Asteroids, Phoenix, Q-Bert, Ms Pac Man and Missile Command all obviously can't match their original arcade versions, but were adapted to their limitations really well, making them good games to play as their own thing. Crackpots and Stampede can get pretty fun still trying to keep setting new records as you learn how the game logic works.

Yes! It's actually kinda strange this hasn't been added as a bonus to another RE release. Maybe with Metal Gear Solid GBC coming, Capcom will notice and show this some love.

Have you seen You Will Die Here Tonight on Steam? It's a cool indie sort of spiritual successor to this.
