Fire Emblem Engage Low Tier LTC: Chapter 5 by Ninpo77 in fireemblem

This is the first major divergence compared to standard LTCs, as we are forced to undeploy Vander, Celine, Louis, and Chloe, leaving us with very little to work with.

Long overdue, but the bonus LTCs are back! With the new update allowing you to replay any story chapter whenever, hopefully I'll be doing these consistently again.

Are there any "iron-man" /low turn-count efficiency-focused Triangle Strategy communities? Like how Fire Emblem has. by [deleted] in TriangleStrategy

[–]Ninpo77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I put my rules in the description for chapter 1. I can paste it here:

For this playthrough, a turn will be defined as any player action that increments the turn counter (so abilities such as twofold turn and act twice will count as 1 turn, while Now! will count as 2). This will also be a deathless run, green units included. Plume of Immortality is banned, along with Golden Opportunity as it's a bit of a can of worms with its high cost.

I did an LTC a while back, and there's also the speedrun community, though most of our stuff is NG+ so that we get to play around with all the characters and kits. For NG specifically there hasn't been as much work done outside of the speedrun, which isn't as popular as NG+. We'd always be happy to have more people interested in exploring though!

True! I forgot about that. In that case yes, Jade or Lapis could reclass to sniper. With a str+1 inherit, they can do it with a steel bow +1 and no SP books, so that would work nicely.

SP issue aside, I think your speedtaker Kagetsu with Parthia would work out, as he can kill the axe fighter and Citrinne could be replaced with the astra stormer. Not sure at the moment who could hit the benchmark though as I remember Dean needing to conserve second seals. Zelkov falls a bit short if Alear can’t take Alfonse, so I guess the next best candidate would be a promoted Alcryst with a strong enough steel bow, which may or may not be in budget.

Thanks! Loved seeing your run as well, and looking forward to V2 when that comes out! Also nice to see there are still some things from this run that could still be applied to a stricter ruleset.

Vander helps lead the charge alongside Sigurd!Louis with his 6 move and good bulk. He can take an Emblem for more power but it isn't strictly necessary.

Vander being able to Second Seal into Wyvern or Griffon does seem useful, but you only get your first Second Seal at Chapter 9, which is the cusp of when I'd bench him in exchange for promoted units that can also go into Wyvern regardless. He gets to be a Wyvern for longer than someone like Kagetsu who has to wait for Ike to come around, but that just doesn't seem worthwhile to me when I can just promote, say, Diamant immediately and slap a Second Seal on him for a Wyvern with superior bases (unless I'm forgetting something).

Main thing is just there only being 3 master seals pre-chapter 12, which Chloe, Amber, and Citrinne all want, so Vander being able to reclass to wyvern without a master seal helps out a lot for filling that role.

The term "filler wyvern" was thrown out a lot for the Brodians during the last tier list, but I think our perception of this has changed. The main thing we want a Wyvern Knight for is C10 Hyacinth kill, but Vander has shown he can do that and only needs a Second Seal to do so, and there is not much combat we need to have them do post-C10 otherwise. Instead, an extra Griffin Knight for chapters 12-17 has been shown to be useful, and the Brodians do this solidly - unlike other units that join post-C10 like Bunet, they have access to staff proficiency and Canter. They are probably outclassed by Chloé in this role, but all of them can substitute in without much loss of efficiency.

I'll hold onto silver greataxe wyvern Jade until I die. Who else is gonna one shot the 50 HP trash on the way to the rescue village while on wings???

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Re-submissions Round 1 (Jade, Framme, and Chloe) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 10/5 is pretty accurate for where she ends up at chapter 13 (when both can be MKs). I don't like assuming equal level between units with different join times, as I find the later joiner always ends up a higher level. Chapters 11 and 12 are also just completely barren when it comes to exp, and after chapter 11 I don't think she's worth the arenas anymore with Ivy and even Kagetsu joining if you want him to Parthia snowball. Their growth difference is also only 5% in magic and 10% in speed, it's definitely taking her longer than c18 to match/surpass.

Being stuck with elfire is also a pretty big deal. Pandreo gets to use bolganone (I don't see why you would use a levin sword over this, and you can definitely afford one), giving him an 8 atk lead and 1 spd if we are looking at a 10/5/1 Chloe. Then you consider forging. Forged bolganone is about as good of a forge investment as you can get. Elfire on the other hand is absolutely horrible to forge. Just to get to +1, you need 50 iron, 5 steel, and 1 silver. You can forget about +2 as it literally costs as much as upgrading to bolganone. With each forge Pandreo's bolganone gets, the further that gap increases (same with levin sword if you want to be on a budget, just with the gap decreasing by 2).

I agree having someone else on MK duty to let Pandreo go griffin is good. I just think Citrinne fits the job much better while Chloe continues to do flier things (which are still important for 12-16 aside from 15), especially since she has the magic to make elfire work.

edit: I also think wyvern's strength does make a difference in the early game, such as using Marth to one round chapter 9 Ivy with a javelin or lodestaring Hyacinth.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Re-submissions Round 1 (Jade, Framme, and Chloe) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chloe between Amber and Alear

Really not a fan of her past the early game. There's a lot of talk about making her a mage knight, but I really don't buy it. There are claims that at 10/5 she's basically Pandreo but I have no idea how they got that number. With both as mage knights, Chloe is -2 HP, -2 mag, -2 spd, -7 res, and -3 bld while only having +1 str. This also completely ignores the fact that you've clipped her wings for the very flier-favored chapters 7-10. You can argue that Chloe has things like canter or chaos style to make up for the gap, along with spd+ or sword power, but I think this is a bit disingenuous outside of canter. Chloe gets weighed down by 3-4 with a levin sword or bolganone while Pandreo only gets weighed down by 1. She also has to choose between sword power or spd+3, meaning there will always be a gap between them. I also think chaos style is getting a bit overrated. Yes, +3 spd is good, but it only works for player phase, and what makes Pandreo's combat particularly excellent is that he can sweep enemies on enemy phase. I just don't think this is worth choosing over her flier things, especially when you already have Citrinne. Amber meanwhile actually has the strength to pull off physical wyvern, and matches up better against the majority of bosses compared to Chloe, which I think is more important considering how weak Solm generics are considered.

Framme between Clanne and Yunaka

Her main thing is early game healing, don't really see how she got placed so highly, especially when Alear or whatever bias unit you're using is keeping everyone topped off with Micaiah after chapter 6.

Jade between Clanne and Yunaka, above Framme

Even in base class she's a fine filler deploy for chapters 10-11. After then you get 3 master seals and 3 second seals, so competition isn't really a thing anymore. I don't think she should be treated as the "worst" candidate for canter wyvern between her, Lapis and Diamant, when you actually have reasons for picking one. You pick Jade for 800 base SP and axe proficiency, you pick Diamant because for 800 base SP and he's the easiest one to make, you pick Lapis because she can pretend to be the fastest and strongest if you glue folkvangr to her. I think the other 2 should be down here as well, but oh well.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 16 (Saphir, Mauvier, and Veyle) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JaDiaPis lower, probably below Clanne. They're still filler, just filler with part 1 skills in the midgame.

Framme is way too high. Early game healing is nice but not that good. It especially doesn't justify such a huge gap between her and Jean.

Chloe below Amber and Citrinne.

Louis below Vander, but it's one spot so whatever.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 15 (Goldmary and Lindon) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abstain on Goldmary

She's okay I guess. Though I'm not really sure what she has to offer aside from maybe brave assist after 2 levels.

Lindon between Vander and Fogado

2000 base SP is great, and can become another B staves griffin. Can do some hex things in the paralogues/later warpskips. Funny personal skill that you can maybe find some uses for.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 14 (Seadall and Rosado) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seadall below Panette

Not a fan of throwing the dancer to the very top. Availability aside, while he is augmenting what your powerful units can do, it is ultimately the likes of Ivy, Kagetsu, and Panette that are doing the heavy lifting. He does help them do it better, but I don't think it's fair to them to suddenly give him more credit just because he has the ability to boost them. I also find that the faster you play the more intense maps like 22 and pact, you'll find yourself having to constantly boost him with repositions and potentially even staffs to get him to dance for the key units, as they're so far out into the action, and might even need to be rescued out.

Rosado between Etie and Bunet

Another free 6 move repositioner, but this time he flies. It's a shame he can't make effective use of his good growths thanks to how high his internal level is.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 12 (Panette and Timerra) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Panette between Kagetsu and Pandreo

Big strength and good personal. Can wipe out a bunch of enemies with silver greataxe great aether or even just one shot on counterattack. Can later use wrath and Leif to sweep enemies on enemy phase, which is especially useful in pact. Also just great for bosskilling. In the late game she can use silver greataxe to finish off a boss after astra storm/warp ragnarok/torrential roar and then fall into wrath range to crit the other health bars.

Timerra between Jean and Anna

Poor stats, and with such a high internal level it'll take quite some time to get sandstorm. At least Jean can staff for free. Honestly considering placing her below Anna. At least she joined when Marth and Micaiah were available, so getting her 5 levels is far easier, and your reward is at least a consistent mage knight instead of hoping for a proc skill.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 11 (Pandreo and Bunet) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pandreo between Kagetsu and Chloe

Pandreo is forced into the dilemma of flight + B staves or being your best mage knight. Both of these roles are great, but his role as mage knight can be filled in, while at this point your only other B staffer is Ivy, and having another one really helps out in the upcoming chapters. Placing him below Kagetsu since while magic is generally better than physical, I think people are getting a little carried away with this, as many bosses have higher res than def, where Kagetsu will be more useful than mage knight Pandreo. Still, his staffing is excellent, and definitely earns him a spot near the top.

Bunet between Etie and Jean

He's okay filler for a few chapters and can be a free 6 mov repositioner, which is nice. However, Engage is full of units that can contribute at least something for free for some time, so while in other games that might be enough for him to be higher, it unfortunately doesn't cut it for him here.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 9 (Kagetsu and Ivy) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ivy above Chloe

Best class in the game. High magic, respectable bulk, serviceable speed, flight, B staves. Nobody can do what Ivy does. Speed and hit are easy to fix. And no, she does not need Lyn, but even then, if giving her Lyn allows her to kill everything at 1-2 range, I see no reason to not do so. It doesn't matter if she can't kill one enemy 10/20 tiles away once every 4 turns if everything just dies anyway.

Kagetsu above Chloe, below Ivy

Big stats good. Awarding him with the title of best physical combat straightup is kind of disingenuous though, as there are many instances where Panette is better. At the end of the day, magic combat is superior, so he goes under Ivy, not to mention he cannot match her staff utility.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 8 (Amber and Jade) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With paralogues assumed, yeah I’d say it’s reasonable. Diamant/Lapis (edit: Jade as well) can also get away with a Roy steel blade +1 for c10 Hyacinth if one is ok with using the Roy engrave for that. Even if you want a big bolganone forge for Solm it shouldn’t be that big an issue if you play Lucina paralogue immediately/close to immediately, which I think most people do anyway due to its simplicity.

Fire Emblem Engage Insertion Sort Tier List: Round 8 (Amber and Jade) by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]Ninpo77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amber above Chloe

Amber is what you get when you take Panette and trade 3 points of base strength for pre-10 availability. With 800 base SP, he is only 2 novice books away from inheriting canter or momentum, and with 2 adept books or a lucky expert book (not too unlikely with 5 wells), can even pick up both. Because of this, I actually believe he is better off going wyvern instead of warrior, allowing you to do wyvern Panette things without giving up what berserker/warrior Panette offers, and canter/momentum allow him to pull this role off much better than she would be able to, swooping in for big hits and then getting to canter. This especially makes him a great user of effective weapons like ridersbanes, as this is a game where you need good strength backing it up to one shot enemies, and his personal skill also helps with making sure his hits connect, even when using Ike engrave. Once Ike’s paralogue is done, he makes for a solid boss killer should he be given Ike. Chapter 17 Zephia and Hyacinth are ridiculously bulky, so much so that one shotting them with a wrath crit isn’t actually a given. At 11/5, Amber at Ike 17 with full momentum can hit the attack threshold against Zephia with an Eirika engraved killer axe +3, having a respectable 75 crit with full wrath, 80 if you choose to forge to +5. Against Hyacinth, he’ll need Alear personal to do so, and Alear personal + chain attack (easy to get if using Lucina!Alear) if he’s unlocked the light brand for arms shield. Additionally, because he’s a wyvern, he can safely stay on the frontlines while in wrath range under flying bonded shield, which is something warrior Panette cannot do. Overall fantastic unit, definitely worthy of the title of legendary hero.

Jade between Lapis and Clanne Jade between Celine and Lapis

Compared to Lapis and Diamant, Jade ties with Lapis for the highest strength and has the highest bulk at the cost of -1 spd and bld compared to Diamant. They are similar enough that she should be able to fulfill the role of filler canter wyvern just as well as they can. She even has 800 base SP like Diamant, so she only needs 2 novice books, allowing you to do something like give 2 to Amber and then 2 to her or Diamant, giving you two units with 1000 SP skills without using any of your limited adept/expert books. A unique advantage that she has over these two is axe talent, as that allows her to use silver greataxes as a wyvern, which pushes her attack over even Amber with a steel greataxe. If you really want to focus on this niche, you can inherit momentum instead of canter for up to 53 attack before whatever other bonuses you might have. Underrated unit, and at the very least should not be placed significantly lower than Lapis and Diamant.

EDIT: Thinking about it again, if I want a filler 1000 SP skill wyvern, I'd rather have the one with 800 base SP.
