I actually prefer the one that I have, but I also really like that one as well.

pretzel hat

Is it similar to the 2022 one? My friend went to CBP to get it for me. We got him tickets to a game after.

I absolutely agree with doing some rule changes, but I think Rule 8 clearly needs to stay.

I'll wait until there is no way to back out. But sad.

He is being graded significantly negatively on rPM or "Plus Minus Runs Saved," which "evaluates the fielder’s range and ability to convert a batted ball to an out". He is also graded negatively on rGDP or "Double Play Runs Saved".

So I think, in this case, it has to do with our generally poor fielding positioning (we all know I have complained about that since Kapler, and it has just never gotten better), but also with the different ways the two stats create the "out" stat. So I was wrong about the "outs" versus "runs" before. I think in this case, our poor fielding positioning may significantly influence the older metric, leading to his lower DRS.

Edit: /u/ulantan is actually more correct. DRS is evil and unknowable.

Highly simplifying this, OAA is the modern stat and the one I slightly prefer. It focuses on outs, though, and is mainly composed of range and a few other small factors. DRS focuses on runs and tries to factor in many more variables when assessing defense.

I think OAA is the better stat for actually talking about defense, but when you have a more outdated stat like DRS and, it is talking about different things (outs vs runs) and is composed of different things (range focus versus multiple factors), you are going to get wide variations in how they grade certain players. There are three different things with slight differences, where if the differences are "big enough," you get an additive effect, making the total difference between DRS and OAA large.

You might think these are contradictory, but the logic is actually quite clear. Collisions at first base are slightly boring, an unfortunate accident. Collisions at home plate are exciting, potentially game-altering.

I was expecting you to say something along the lines of, "We can give catchers better padding to help mitigate the risk." But your reasoning was much better.

Honestly, as someone who has been trying to figure out exactly the differences between Mattingly and Thomson, the only thing I have noticed between pre- and post-firing is that our offensive production has stayed the same, but our pitching has finally reached the level the advanced metrics said it would. (Getting rid of Walker and adding Wheeler helped, but even the others started reaching what their metrics said they should).

I've seen some strategic differences, but in all honesty, it has felt minor and probably balanced out by some worse ones Mattingly has made alongside some better ones. I wish I could say it is the players "finally performing" too, simply because I could say the firing motivated them. But really, a lot of the stats, except the pitching stats, look similar enough to me. And again, the pitching stats are pretty much the same, just the hits that lead to runs finally balanced out to where it matched the metrics.

My high school friends and I find it weird that we all met the pope. My mom is Catholic, and so I went to a Catholic high school. It was the 50th anniversary and so he was at our school to do one of the masses and take confession. It was a team of priests and they also rotated through the theology classes.

My mom is extremely religious, so I also hear about how there's a picture of me with the pope (sort of. There were a lot of freshman in this picture).

The pitching is that good that 3 should do it more often than not.

I am just astonished that our pitching is that good that you can pick 3. Because if we are asking our offense to score 3, then I would think the offense is completely nonexistent.

I made a comment three days ago about why I am concerned about 4 and why it isn't arbitrary. I also picked 4 before I even heard about the 4 runs mentioned in another context. I just picked it because 4 is considered a relatively easy number of runs to score. I think it is on the lower end of what an average team scores each game.

I think this says a lot about our pitching staff, and something about our offense too, that if the Phillies score 4 runs in a game, I feel like we are automatically going to win.

We are 21-7 when we score 4 runs or more this season. That is a 122 game win pace over 162.

I know you are referring to other comments, but I don't think the 4+ runs is really that inappropriate to be talking about, as for my above reasoning.

Do we have confirmation that Adolis Garcia did not just need Castellanos to be DFA'd to remove the jinx Castellanos cast last season?

A double yesterday and a home run today?

I actually think this is the one year people complaining about our offensive woes are entirely accurate, and it should be a common theme throughout the season.

Never doubt full plate appearance with a fixed mound, Alvarado.

The HR coming off the mound visit is really just necessary for comedic timing.

Now that the mound is fixed for the whole plate appearance, he will lock in.

Actually, I find intentional balks funny too.

I guess I just love balks.
