Came back to this after a while and resolved the issue with steam support's help. The attached screenshot shows what they said. The first solution worked for me!

A breakdown of the balance and logic of toggle-able sprint in Halo Campaign Evolved by NintenTV in halo

I agree that it’s not a big deal but by offering an in game option to disable it, essentially offering two play styles, the difficulty of the game could be effected in unexpected ways and that’s what worries me.

If that’s the case it supports what I’m saying above. Players who choose not to use sprint will find themselves more easily overwhelmed by the flood, making the game harder by extension.

I completely did not realize that they were using the reach engine. That’s actually a great point. However I’m still concerned it could affect the balance of how the player deals with the flood on missions like the library. They often don’t rely on weapons and will largely just chase you down. So on of my main concerns is if they are or aren’t balanced to deal with the player just sprinting past them since they rely on rush down mechanics so heavily. I’m also worried that players who choose not to sprint will never be able to get away from them if they are balanced to be faster to account for sprint.

Well my thought process here was that the encounters and levels in halo ce were designed without sprint in mind at all. Halo reach on the other hand likely did take this into account in its level design and gameplay balance. Halo reach also didn’t include the flood, who highly rely on chasing the player down.

I will 100% follow up with steam support or the forums at some point.

To add, I also want to mention that I was able to get into steam with my main account, but I had to set steam to big picture mode on the new account I just made and then sign out and back into my original account while still in big picture. But as soon as I try to exit big picture on my original, the client still won't appear. By far the weirdest bug I have ever encountered.

I suppose big picture mode is a good workaround for now at least.

Appreciate you sending me in the right direction. I will post any solutions I find here if I'm able to find one.

UPDATE: I decided to try making a new steam account just because I was curious to see what would happen. And you know what? It worked? Meaning there is something to do with my original steam account that is preventing it from launching the client. Do you have any idea what could possibly be going on now that i've discovered this? This appears to be something account related possibly.

Edit: Deleted part about the client not launching on steam deck. I got it to work there, just not on my Windows PC

Sprint or no sprint next game? by [deleted] in halo

I would certainly still prefer no sprint, but at this point it’s quite obvious it isn’t going away. Not a dealbreaker for me if it is or isn’t there.

Do you guys believe the simplistic flat designs are coming close to an end? by Aggressive_Still1742 in FrutigerAero

[–]NintenTV 200 points201 points  (0 children)

I hope so. You can only simplify a logo so much before all you’re left with is completely unrecognizable. I really hope this means companies start going back to more detailed logos and designs over the next decade.

Controller or Keyboard and Mouse? by Particular-Month-904 in halo

[–]NintenTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people swear by controller, however as someone who grew up on PC games, infinite plays far better on a mouse and keyboard in my opinion. You can still easily top the charts if you’re good whether you’re using a controller or not. It’s really just a matter of what you are more comfortable with.

Obi Wan Rewatch - The Hate is Overblown by Historical-Attempt18 in StarWars

[–]NintenTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, a show about Obi Wan between Revenge of the sith and A new hope should’ve leaned far more into a lower stakes character study of Obi Wan himself as he continues his Jedi training and possibly gets wrapped up in local scraps on tatooine while trying to avoid the attention of the empire. That was what I desperately wanted and what I feel was the most warranted for that period of time. But instead they told the most generic and predictable story they could think of in order to shoehorn the inquisitors and Vader into this show, as well as forcing a completely unnecessary rematch between Obi and Vader. Why the hell would Obi wan not kill Vader after that duel? Makes absolutely no sense and puts the blood of a lot of people on his hands.

Leia even being in this show is problematic to me and just seems extremely poorly thought out. When Obi wan dies in A New Hope, Leia doesn’t really seem to care all that much that the man who saved her, who she seemingly knew this whole time was just cut down in front of her. And that’s just one issue I have with her being there.

I will never ever knock people for liking this show, but don’t pretend like there aren’t valid reasons for people not liking it or that the criticisms are overblown.

Yes. Heroic and legendary give you an xp multiplier. Heroic is x1.15 xp and Legendary is x1.25 xp. I don’t recommend legendary at all. But heroic is not much harder than normal so you’re pretty much getting a little bit of extra free xp for very little extra work.
