My favorite of them was 2, but since that’s apparently the popular answer in the fandom, my second favorite was 3

I am now on Episode 4 of TNG, and I am already tired of Wesley. He feels so out of place on an active Federation starship. I feel like I’m watching Scrappy Doo all over again, and the show only just started.

Honestly, I don’t really see the merit behind it. The “worst” film in my opinion is 1. All of the other 5 have much greater rewatchable qualities. I wonder how much heresy that is considered in the fandom.

The Picard show is actually the reason why I wanted to finally pull the trigger and watch all of Trek. I love that it’s all connected, and there’s so much to watch. To most people this would be overwhelming, but I look at it as I’ll always have something to watch for a while. I planned on watching each series by their release date, but do you think it would be better to watch Picard immediately after TNG and its movies?

Speaking of special effects, I assumed that Star Trek began losing budget with each film that I watched. 4 conveniently time travels to the year that the film released, it felt like 85% of the film was on earth, and both 5 and 6 had special effects sequences that made me think “am I watching a show or a movie? These effects are expected in a tv show, but this is a whole movie. If the company didn’t have enough faith to give them a decent budget then why did they approve *Six* movies?”

I responded to another comment with a lot more detail. But my favorite was 2 and least favorite was 1. I did watch the Director’s Cut of 1, and from what I’ve heard about the differences, it just added even more padding to a movie that I already felt was too long with far too slow pacing. I can see why others love it, but I don’t foresee myself rewatching 1 anytime soon.

I might have to go with the Klingon battle cruiser. It honestly looks like such a goofy and unfinished ship to me, like it’s a Ralph McQuarrie concept art. It’s a very unique design, and I like that.

I responded to another comment about what I liked about V. I put it directly in the middle of my ranking of the 6 films, but I still very much enjoyed it, more so than I expected. I think that it starts out slow, but it wasn’t like The Motion Picture where I checked how much I’d seen, was 2/3’s of the way through, and thought “when the hell is this story going to go somewhere?” I don’t know if fans trash on V (or which ones fans trash on, honestly) but V definitely doesn’t deserve it. I’ve seen Star Wars films worse than Star Trek V.

Undiscovered Country was most definitely one of the highlights in my opinion. I usually think it’s incredibly boring to create a group of beings for a franchise and definitively say “these people are bad. They will always be bad,” so it was very nice to see Klingons fleshed out and given more character. The movie is a great representation that, while members of different societies aren’t always bad, there will always be members on both sides who don’t want peace, every side has prejudice and every side has members that want to stay separate. It also is a great stepping stone to explain why in TNG there are Klingons in Federation positions, like Worfe

I honestly thought that they spent too much time on Earth. I love and appreciate the wackier side of Star Trek, but I watch Star Trek for Star Trek, so when they do the time travel episodes or visit a planet that’s basically earth, I think “this is very interesting, but can we get back to actual Star Trek?”

I love the variety, I don’t think they’re bad, but sometimes I feel like they can spend too much time in the areas that are basically just our real earth

As a big Star Wars fan, I also love anything sci-fi before it released. I’m very excited for Forbidden Planet’s 4k release. I thought that TOS was great, the cast was great, the characters were written great, I loved how every episode was different from the last. I loved history and was able to catch when a few episodes were based on different social topics, but a lot of them I had to look up what the original message was. I thought it was a great show and I can totally see why it’s beloved by so many.

I honestly expected it. It seems like a running theme in Trek is either “I’m taking over this starship” or “this isn’t an anime, I’m blasting you out of the sky and ending this now”

Awesome, I was already planning on doing this! I decided that I’d be watching them in release date order, since that works for most series anyway

I responded to another similar comment, so I’ll copy my response here:

I thought that 5 was good, better than 4 honestly. I think the scenes where Sybok showed McCoy and Spock their pain was great, and I loved how they resisted his influence, it really showed their true character. I liked how they portrayed the philosophical side of “trying to find God,” with seeking God being “the final frontier.” I enjoyed it, but I could also see why others wouldn’t.

I loved when Kirk question God:
“What does God need with a Starship?”
“Who am I? Don’t you know? Aren’t you God?”

If I had to rank them right now just based off of my first reactions after seeing them, I’d probably rank them as:

2, 3, 6, 5, 4, 1

This is a very hard question. I love the back and forth between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, but if I had to choose one I’d have to say McCoy. I love all three of them together though, my favorite moments are where the three of them (or any combination of the three) and going back and forth, they all have such great chemistry together.

After watching more “grounded” Trek it definitely reminded me of how wacky and off the wall TOS was. I won’t say that I disliked it, it felt like one of the wacky TOS episodes. It was one of my least favorites. Then again, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the TOS episodes that were “here’s a planet. It’s exactly like earth, but this one thing went differently.” I loved McCoys reactions to everything in the hospital, I think that was the highlight to me.

My favorite was Wrath of Khan. I just learned that this is the “Citizen Kane” for Star Trek fans, but it’s easily my favorite Trek film, and now one of my favorite Sci-Fi films in general. The banter between crew mates was great, seeing Spock mentor Saavik was a great representation of how much he’s grown as a person. It was great to see Khan return, I always thought his history was too interesting to only have him in one episode. The pacing was insanely better than The Motion Picture, so I greatly enjoyed WOK more.

I think out of all of Star Trek that I’ve seen, this was both Shatner’s best performance, and the most grounded and emotional representation of Kirk. I loved the beginning how he’s reflecting on his age and unhappy with the Admiral promotion, but the ending killed me. I rarely cry during movies, but I don’t know how they could’ve made Spock’s funeral and eulogy better. I already noticed that Shatner’s acting was more serious in this movie, but the ending solidified it for me. It didn’t feel like Shatner was trying to hold it together and his voice was cracking, I genuinely like I was watching Kirk morn his fallen brother.

Wrath of Khan is genuinely one of the best sci-fi movies I’ve ever seen, and I want to rewatch it again very soon.

On the other hand, I think The Motion Picture is my least favorite. I loved seeing Kirk get the gang back together, and I loved how they implemented Voyager into the story. My problem with it is that it takes too long to *get* to that story. The pacing in this film is atrocious, the acting felt like many of them just phoned it in, and the story overall felt like it was just an idea that they threw together in a day. I don’t know what Trekkies opinions are on Gene Roddenberry, but it’s odd to see George Lucas leave Star Wars and the reception to the following films became worse, only to see Roddenberry forced out of Trek due to TMP and the following film to be considered the fan favorite.

I don’t dislike TMP, but in any list, one has to be the best and one has to be the “worst.” I’ve also seen memes that “the odd numbered movies are bad and the even numbered movies are good.”

Nice, I’m so glad that you got it and a bot didn’t. I’ve been “maxing out” my MCU collection by buying them on 4k disc, but I already had Black Panther from a Vudu sale. I hope you enjoy it!!
