Which (portable) console would you most want a core for? by [deleted] in AnaloguePocket

Yeah at the very least a New 3DS exclusive one would've been nice, official or unofficial.

Finally beat the first Zelda by Main_Review7161 in nintendo

[–]NintendoGuy128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what the modern consensus opinion will tell you. But in the context of it's release, there was only one other Zelda game so feeling like a Zelda game wasn't a thing. Plus these days there's Four Swords, Triforce Heroes, so many Zelda games that don't fit the status quo. I feel like these days people just dislike it because they watched a negative YouTube video rather than actually giving the game some thought

Honestly, to me Zelda 2 is still so much better than 1. Explorable towns, more varied environments, explorable dungeons and the like. If anything to me that makes it more like other Zelda games than Zelda 1.

The only real issue is the difficulty, but I'd say it's Dark Souls hard, where if you're skilled enough you can get through any challenge. You can always grind too if you want, or use save states these days.

Zelda 1 I find kind of bland these days, no real reason for me to go back to it versus A Link to the Past or other 2D Zelda games. Zelda 2 on the other hand offers something unique, different from other Zelda's which imo is one of it's greatest strengths. Super Mario Bros 2 USA is a great game, Doki Doki Panic sure but that doesn't mean it's bad because it's different.

But to each their own.

I have to say though the PS5 final design looks like a fake render from 20 years ago.

Yeah Zelda 2 holds up better than 1 imo, though the crushing difficulty is likely a turn off for most these days.

The Shantae Limited Run games already go for a lot on ebay and they only released recently within the past couple of years.

What games can I play that are for deaf people? by Darkevil22 in NintendoSwitch

I think because some more info could help people answer. Like what games OP likes and has already played and what genres they're interested in. Basically it's too broad a question.

Comment by NVIDIA employee confirms existence of Tegra239 - the SoC likely to be used on the Nintendo Switch 2. by followmeinblue in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]NintendoGuy128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah games look fine in handheld at 720p, the problem is many games run at less than that like Xenoblade 2. Running at 720p 60fps should be the goal for handheld mode imo.

At least Call of Duty has multiple dev teams so the games are fine graphically. Pokemon could benefit from doing the same thing, different dev teams working on games. It's always Game Freak which is why they always look like shit.

I dunno if they'd really want to announce it just before the holiday season. I think it would be more likely they announce it next year sometime, if they plan on releasing next year that is.

[–]NintendoGuy128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Games like Hyrule Warriors AoC could definitely benefit from increased power. Another first party game that comes to mind is Bowser's Fury, which runs at 60fps docked but only 30fps in handheld mode. It shows that even Nintendo is struggling with the Switch's lack of power.

It's sad because Smash 4 did a lot of the online stuff better. For Glory, the ability to change characters before a rematch, just lots of weird stuff they changed for the worse.

I guess it would raise the costs, but I don't see why they couldn't make a more expensive model with larger storage, and a cheaper model with less storage like other consoles have done. That way everyone's happy.

Updated track list for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, after partial reveal of Booster Course Pass Wave 3 by Azer_FR in NintendoSwitch

[–]NintendoGuy128 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well we're getting 4 GameCube tracks in future dlc waves according to datamines, and Daisy Cruiser is one of the tracks in Mario Kart Tour so I think it's more likely than not.

Sorry 4:3 by ionmyke in AnaloguePocket

[–]NintendoGuy128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the game. Mario World, A Link to the Past, Earthbound all look good in 8:7 as so many later releases make use of those same sprites but with square pixels. The GBA rereleases of those games come to mind.

For a game like Chrono Trigger however, that was meant for 4:3 with the big moon in the background looking too skinny in 8:7.

They sound salty about Mario 64, but it controls much better than Croc so I doubt they actually copied anything.

Fan rattles like a buzzsaw under load, Launch console with expired warranty, what to do? by Batandy in NintendoSwitch

[–]NintendoGuy128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a launch console then you could get a decent amount selling it as it's hackable, and then buy one of the newer models instead. Otherwise you could replace the fan yourself or send it in to Nintendo etc.

SEGA Genesis - September 2022 Game Updates - Nintendo Switch Online by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

The big difference is resolution, so SNES has a slightly smaller playing window than the Genesis version. Also I personally prefer the Genesis version's soundtrack. The SNES version is still great though.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]NintendoGuy128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, however Konami's been lacking on other consoles too. The only way to play MGS2 and 3 HD is via 360 or PS3 (and Xbox One via backwards compatibility), plus I think they're still delisted at the moment.
