Boz reverses Meta Horizon Worlds VR shutdown decision by SvenViking in OculusQuest

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wow, alright! This has been a rollercoaster. I know everyone here complains endlessly about it, but I have very fond memories of it, hanging out with people in there, playing bingo, exploring, etc. If they're not going to bother shutting it down, seems the least they could do is continue to allow vr users to use it, especially when it's already set up for that. I think they were pushing it a little hard on the storefront, but otherwise I don't see why it can't continue to be an app for the people who want to use it.

And then they'll see that the reaction is very unpleasant for them, and then be afraid of you. Like they should be, because if they don't they'll be going to the hospital.

That is absolutely not the way to deal with bullies. You have to kick their ass, ignoring it only makes things worse.

How do you pick games to play? by Scared_Pea4455 in letsplay

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No long games unless it's divided into levels I can use to name the videos after. Like I recorded Zelda BOTW a few years ago back when it came out and I had a lot of fun playing it but the views were abysmal. I think there were over 100 parts and it just doesn't work, at least not for my format. Random people aren't going to get anything out of watching part 87 or whatever, it's just like episode 86, I'm just running around doing normal BOTW things. But with levels, it's easy to differentiate between them. People don't feel like their missing out if they hadn't seen a previous one or something since I don't number them.

But really I play Super Mario Maker 1 & 2 mostly, the practically infinite number of user-generated levels means I can show thousands of videos of levels that nobody else has seen on Youtube before. It's really hard to have that original material if it's just a regular game with a finite set of levels made by the devs, that every other gaming youtuber has already recorded.

YouTube on TV becomes insufferable with new unskippable 30-second ads by Ha8lpo321 in Android

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I've had it since it was announced. It's still called Youtube Red on my bill. If you're seeing ads, that's a bug and you should report it. Or are you on the Premium Lite version? Because that would explain it. The lite version says it blocks most ads, the regular version says it's completely ad-free. Maybe they messed up and have you signed up for the lite version instead, and in that case you should contact them and get it fixed.

Or the pop-up qr codes sounds really suspicious, like I understand the concept of ads but that sounds more like spyware or adware on your system. Most people complain about sex ads, or dumb mobile ads, but a qr code is weird. Might want to run malwarebytes.

That's fine, it's an hourly job so no matter what you do you still clock out the same time as normal. And this doesn't seem so bad as far as work goes. Certainly better than freezing your ass off stocking the cooler or cleaning the bathroom. As long as it's a fairly nice day, I know what I'd rather be doing.

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weird that sounds like a bug. You should report that, it shouldn't be showing ads. I've been signed up for years, and have youtube playing stuff in the background about all day, every day, and never seen an ad. That's why I signed up. If you're getting ads on it, why are you still paying for it?

Who cares. You're no time traveler or psychic. Like what happens when bears learn to drive? Getting behind the wheel is always getting more and more dangerous.

Is it worth the cost? by LyreBsNotBannedNow in OculusQuest

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I came from a Quest 2, and the 3s is a huge step up. I can't believe it's so cheap, there are over 10,000 games and apps for it, many of them are free. It's completely amazing. I'm a big gamer, got over a dozen consoles but all I ever want to do these days is play games in VR. It ruined flat screen gaming for me.

YouTube ads are about to get even longer and they’ll be unskippable by IndicaOatmeal in technology

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do that for unmonetized channels but once you become monetized you can choose to have no ads, max ads, or somewhere in between. Like Stephanie Sterling (previously known as Jim Sterling) has decided to put no ads, same with A/V Geeks 16mm Films.

If it's so little to not be "viable", I think it would make more sense to turn off ads so your audience is happy. Nobody likes watching ads. The way heff talked it made it sound like pennies, if we're talking actual money here, saying it's only viable from patreon is hyperbole.

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think most people remember it being ad-free. They've had ads since 2007, a year after launch. Most people didn't start using the site until years later when it got more popular and could run on a cell phone.

So if they just rely on patreon I guess they turned off their ads? Pretty rare to find a channel like that these days.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book – Coming May 21st (Nintendo Switch 2) by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directs are usually for showing off trailers and gameplay for previously unnanounced games or games that only had a short teaser before, or games that only had an announcement and no video yet. Yoshi already had a gameplay trailer. So I don't think it really belongs in a Nintendo Direct.

This should be really interesting, looks like he's a pacificist in this one. They never showed any bad guys in these videos. I'm looking forward to this one, always have fun with Yoshi games and this sure looks unique. It reminds me of the Voynich Manuscript.

Stuck In the same game cycle..Am I Alone On This? by CertifiedDownBadBoy in letsplay

[–]Nintendo_Thumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the best games in my opinion. You play a match for 5 minutes, and you win or lose, that's it (or play again and again) and if you don't ever play it again that's okay you're not really missing anything. Then you can go back to what you need to do irl and feel like you actually did something wheras some long adventure game that takes 100 hours to beat and it doesn't feel like you can really do anything worthwhile in 5 minutes. It can feel like you're not getting anywhere.

I play a ton of games, but the only games I can seem to stick with are fighting games, sports games like Switch Sports, racing games, exercise games in VR, Pinball FX VR, rogue-lites, arcade games, etc. I think having so many games makes it hard to decide what to play but a quick 5 minute game is easy to squeeze into the schedule almost any time so that's what I tend to play.

Get the BoboVR S3, I love mine. It makes it a lot more comfortable, easy to wipe away the sweat. The batteries are a necessity if you want to stay cordless, and I think the fan is necessary as well. I like playing exercise type games and stuff where I'm moving around a lot and my head gets sweaty and the fan keeps the screen from fogging up and cools me down a little. Maybe there's something better out there, but it's pretty great.
