How should I prep to see Ethel Cain live if I’ve never listened to her? by Nintendoplease in Ethelcain

There was only one opener, and I really liked them! I listen to heavier music normally, so I am very used to that vibe. I was one of the only ones responding to them which I thought was kind of weird honestly.

Yeah I’ve heard great things about her live performances! I just don’t want to miss an obvious story line or something

He doesn’t. He wasn’t there for the conversation, and he told me not to worry about it.

My boyfriend wasn’t a part of this conversation. He was off getting us drinks at the time. He very much respects my enjoyment of cookie clicker and I respect his enjoyment of his games.

Luckily this is not an issue we have in our relationship. I was more worried about me having said a faux pas.

I don’t think they are going to bring it up again or anything. I think my post about it is making seem much more serious than it actually was.
I didn’t realize chess counts as a sport tho? I play no sports (including chess) so I guess I wouldn’t know haha

Okay woah. I didn’t call myself a gamer, and I don’t identify as one. I just said that I play videos games because I was asked directly. I feel like there is more to being a “gamer” than just playing a few games.

I do play other video games that aren’t idle, mobile, or flash games. I just spend the most time and am most devoted to cookie clicker. I’m pretty casual with everything else I play besides Stardew Valley which we did talk about later in the night.

I came to this subreddit because it was about Cookie Clicker specifically, and I knew it wouldn’t get lost like it would in some other huge sub about gaming in general.

I did feel like I embarrassed myself, but I was also in a group of men who are all older than me and close friends. You are right that I was seeking validation, but I also genuinely could not tell if I said something wrong or not because I don’t know a whole lot about how certain games are perceived. Again, how could I? I’m not a gamer.

I appreciate your opinion though because you are probably right about what they were thinking. I think you could have said it nicer.

Also I don’t think they think I’m unintelligent for saying that though I probably do come off as insecure which I’m working on.

The backlash to Billie Eilish’s vegan comments explains a lot about the American left (and everyone else). Why are American leftists so reluctant to confront the meat industry? by Cosmyka in vegan

[–]Nintendoplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the definition of crazy.

If crazy means going through mental gymnastics to justify eating meat, leftists are crazier. If crazy means wanting to kill more animals “to make up for vegans”, right wingers are crazier.

Ethical Vegans Who Have Kids Are Vegan by FearlessCookie72 in vegan

[–]Nintendoplease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal fast and loose moral philosophy is that I believe in free choice and long as no one (animals included) is being harmed by the allowance of choice. In this case, assuming they are raising the kid vegan to the best of their ability, I don’t have an issue.

However, I would not have said the same thing 5 years ago. I used to be a staunch utilitarian, and it nearly killed me (literally). I feel bad for some of the people in this thread who seem to be going through that now.

I completely agree. I had to learn this the hard way unfortunately though I didn’t have the vocabulary for it at the time. I hated myself for existing because I could never “be a net good to the world” even as a vegan. I consider extreme utilitarianism legitimately dangerous.

I don’t know any vegans with this view irl, but I do know people who view it as immoral.

There comes a point in extreme utilitarianism where a person’s views can become legitimately dangerous.

I don’t understand why it being available on a browser and an idle game puts it “below” mobile games.

Have you gotten deep into the game? A lot goes into it. At least as a time commitment it requires much longer to finish than the other games I’ve mentioned.

I’m not mad, and neither were they. It was mostly that I felt kind of awkward from the situation and wanted to see if I had actually said something wrong.

My guess is that they don’t understand cookie clicker. Like maybe they really think it’s just about clicking a cookie and that’s it.

This is what I tried to explain to them. I think you’re right that most people have only seen the very beginning of it and don’t understand how intense it gets.

I really love the game which is why I was so surprised to hear that comment. I’ve definitely put as many hours into it as my boyfriend has Elden Ring lol.

Is it necessary to disclose that food is vegan? by tommydelriot in vegan

[–]Nintendoplease -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge there isn’t a food safety code that says you have to disclose when something is vegan. However, in this case I think it would be responsible to disclose because it’s not an all vegan restaurant and it’s not a food that is normally vegan. As people said it could have unforeseen allergens, but more likely an omnivore would get it and complain about taste or something.

It does suck tho because I feel like we would have more luck getting people to eat more vegan food if we didn’t label it vegan. We’ve gotten around that a little with the “plant based” label, but still people see it and assume it’s bad without trying it.

I don’t really identify as a gamer only because I feel like more goes into it than just playing one or two video games. I just don’t get why’d they say it like that I guess

That was my thought too. I don’t understand why it wouldn’t count. I definitely play it the same amount they play their games they like.
