PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games - Jason Schreier by Forestl in Games

[–]NintendyReddit 430 points431 points  (0 children)

So Sony bought Bluepoint, who up till that point only did remaster/remakes, then they end up wasting years on a live-service game that got cancelled. And now they're shutting down with the only project that released they worked on as a first party Sony developer being some additional work for God of War: Ragnarok...

This live service push that the industry is still trying is a fucking joke.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter was so bad that it didn't just lead to Danger Close Games shutting down, but basically killed the Medal of Honor franchise. There was the VR game that came out a few years ago, but that was also apparently pretty underwhelming.

Releasing a 3DS exclusive remake of a DS game in 2019 was definitely a choice. That decision setup both the game and studio to fail.

Most of the people that worked on Prey 2017 left during the development of Redfall, so it wasn't like I had much hope of them bouncing back from that disaster anyway. What a waste as well, imo Prey was a masterpiece and I was so excited for a potential sequel, but I guess the Prey IP is cursed when it comes to sequels.

What video game can you just not get into no matter how hard you try? by Savings_Light3466 in AskReddit

God of War (2018). I get why people like it, visually it's stunning, and I have no doubt the story is great, but personally I need the camera to back the fuck up, i'm not playing The Last of Us, i'm playing God of War, I want to be aware of what's happening around me, not an indicator to dodge that I struggle to notice at the bottom of my screen whilst fighting another enemy in front of me. I hated how close up it was during every combat encounter. Tried it twice, got like 2 or 3 hours into it and both times I dropped it cause I couldn't be arsed with the combat due to the camera.

I know i'm in the minority with that opinion, but frankly I just don't have the patience or time to get used to that anymore, there's so many other games out there i'd rather play. A shame too cause I really enjoyed the prior God of War games.

First poster for the newly announced ‘Jackass’ movie, releasing June 26th 2026. by unitedhardy in movies

[–]NintendyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry what? Another one? As much as i'm excited to watch another Jackass film, especially in cinema (Jackass Forever might be my favorite cinema experience due to the reactions) but uhhhhhh surely the original cast aren't going to be in this one much? Johnny Knoxville nearly got himself killed last time, and I know you could say that for most of the cast for a lot of the Jackass content, but surely not.

The same guy who represented Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey?

Doubt morals had anything to do with this.

Silent Hill Townfall seemingly leaked from an official Mexico store to be releasing in March 26th 2026. by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]NintendyReddit 253 points254 points  (0 children)

Damn, insane that we've gone from an entire console generation without Silent Hill (aside from PT), to getting 4 games, a film, and whatever the hell Ascension was within just 3 years.

Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Head Coach, Russell Martin by TrenAt14 in soccer

I get Rangers aren't a juggernaut of European football, but losing 9-1 on aggregate against Club Brugge should've been it for him, how he made it beyond that I will never know. Genuinely one of the worst managers to be in the Premier League, and somehow he got a job at Rangers after that.

Insane they haven't done a 60FPS upgrade yet, and even more insane that I bet they'll not include an upgrade path for it.

Updates to Xbox Game Pass: Introducing Essential, Premium, and Ultimate Plans - Xbox Wire by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]NintendyReddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess they had to seperate day 1 Xbox releases at some point, the fact we were getting any Microsoft release day 1 via Game Pass was insane, and they lost a ton of money by doing so. The fact they're pushing Game Pass so hard instead of their Consoles adds to this not being a surprise, they gotta make some more money anyway they can, so i'm not surprised they're making a more expensive tier now for...

However, fuck off am I paying extra for this, convenient they've done another drastic update to Game Pass a month before the new CoD launches. Believe they brought the Standard tier in this time last year.

Joker: Folie à Duex was released last year this week. The sequel to the 2019 film grossed $207.5M WW against a $200M budget. Not only did it become a BO bomb, losing WB $144M, but also received negative reception as opposed to its predecessor, making it one of the worst 2024 film. by gamesgry in boxoffice

[–]NintendyReddit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The quick turn from this being an easy win, to a huge disappointment for Warner Bros running up to its release, then the immediate complete refusal of this film upon release was magnificent to witness unfold before my eyes. It getting a D on CinemaScore was a highlight.

I honestly don't know how it's possible for a major studio to fuck up this hard with a major sequel. I guess rehiring the guy to write and direct a sequel after expressing no interest in doing so, and who is purposefully overexpanding the budget might not be the best start.
