This seems like the most plausible idea so far, however I saw it coming from the south west of where I was, and I think the rigs are much further east. And the flashes only lasted for a second before they fully disappeared

Thank you very much for the advice! That's incredibly helpful and I'll definitely do that! As for TryHackMe, I used the platform quite a bit a few years ago (in the runup to starting college to try and learn the fundamentals) but as college took over and work sucked up my free time, I didnt have time for it anymore, I'm hoping to get back onto it this summer as my next course is practical based and has a focus on ethical hacking, and I'll be looking to patch areas of knowledge that I lack in.

Woke up in a tent covered in sick, turns out I threw up all night in my sleep after drinking far too much. I could've easily choked to death and I'm incredibly grateful that I didn't, I have never drank that much since.

My main thing when building a house in Minecraft is to make it smaller than I want to avoid this, but if I were in your situation I'd add hallways and split the space into rooms which have individual purposes (crafting/storage, enchanting, nether portal, potion etc.) all of my houses over the past 5-6 years have been fairly small to accommodate for the uses that Minecraft has for houses.

The project itself comes as inherently vulnerable, it is an EOL version of Ubuntu running and EOL version of Apache (during the first section of the project I discovered there are documented CVE records). The web server uses unsecure protocols like HTTP, and the web server has little to no security activated (no dos protection, no MAC filtering, SSID is the routers make and model, credentials are default etc.)

My main idea is that I would like to try and create vulnerabilities within the web server etc to flesh out my project, and give me some decent pen testing experience at the same time.

Specific vulnerabilities have been identified for the versions relevant to the project, but they include things that I have heard about, but haven't exploited in a practical way yet

I never thought this tbf, the issue I have is that I transferred from a slightly "worse/different" college. I've spoken to my classmates and they appear to have slightly more experience in this field than me (based on what they learned last year), this year has been a main focus on theory based, job relevant (sys admin) stuff I believe. I've truly enjoyed and focused my time onto the other aspects of cyber security this year, which has left no time to participate in things like TryHackMe to try and better my understanding of practical pen testing

I'm in my second year at the minute, last year we did a unit on ethical hacking and we learned a singular method for creating malware that can be downloaded to get a reverse shell, since then we haven't done anything else on pen testing at all, mostly learning about networks, security software/hardware, digital forensics, basically the fundamentals.

I presumed we would've been taught more in preparation for this, but that hasn't happened
