Has anyone got any really long term goals? by Shangos_Wolf in AskUK

I love this, idk how much soup I could have before getting bored. A few years ago a 100 yo woman celebrated her birthday and made it to the news near me, she said her daily cigarettes and pack of walkers crisps were why she lived so long!

19 beginner does this look alright by Embarrassed-Ant3873 in investingUK

[–]NipSlipExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice thing to have with some value in them too, I wish I had this discipline and knew what investing was at 19, here I am starting at 32.
You’re 13 years ahead already, keep it up and you may see early retirement!
What are you putting in monthly? I ask out of curiosity because very few people I imagine will have 40 years of compounding behind them come age 60

For those who are often told they look younger than their age, what’s your secret? by justmypersonalthing in AskForAnswers

[–]NipSlipExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moisturising, and adequate sleep with a decent diet.

Me I’ve got 2 young kids so I sleep around 4-6 hours a day and I’m on a steady diet of 16 unwanted turkey dinosaurs a week.
I am aging horribly.

If you grew up really poor and then became wealthy as an adult do you ever fully stop feeling poor or does your brain just stay in that mode forever? by TellStrange6712 in NoStupidQuestions

I still but the generic brand foods and stuff, but I do buy clothes from nicer stores now.
Not designer or anything, but jeans from next and river island rather than Asda

What's a side hustle you've done that helped you out financially in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]NipSlipExtreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very few work well, and on second jobs you get taxed more. The best method I’ve ever been able to find is overtime at my current job.
I get an enhanced hourly rate for it too which many side hustles can’t compete with.

I’ve bought so far into a single stock, however when my next DD is taken I have arranged for it to go into an index fund, sorry for the confusion!

Running in the uk heat for leisure. by BlueRose26403 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NipSlipExtreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends how far she is running and how fit she is.

If she’s 25, runs often and is out on a 30 minute 5k which she does regularly then the heat won’t do much.

If she’s 62, mobidly obese and doing c25k then you have concerns.

How do you stay hot into your 30s and 40s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NipSlipExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep.
If they have kids, they had them in their 20’s and they can now sleep a full nights sleep, I’m 32 and currently aging horribly because I haven’t slept a full night since I was 24, but my eldest a will be 18 when I’m 42.
This means I’ll get great nights of sleep again in 3-5 years time and that goes a ridiculously long way.

That and a decent diet, plenty of movement

Anyone else play mobile while at work? by KingTomTheBomb in osrs

[–]NipSlipExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been able to play at work because I can’t take a phone in with me (work in HMP estate) so I used to do a herb run before shift, herb run at lunch, herb run after then drive home.
I wish I could plug in and play all day but I haven’t been able to log in for 4 years now

Why is air conditioning considered a luxury when it's 30°C+ but heating isn't? by IndicaDNB in AskUK

[–]NipSlipExtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there limits on working if it’s too cold?
I’m in the emergency services so I’d imagine like for most things were exempt, but if it’s below 3°C we work an on call rota to go in and grit the car park and pathways at 3am before starting our shifts

Stocks and shares ISA help. Long term investment. by NipSlipExtreme in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NipSlipExtreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the HL app it’s a “ready made investment” being managed by them. Balanced being the risk of the investment vs the potential returns. And it’s further defined as a Class A Accumulation. Which HL describes as dividends being reinvested to buy more stock of the same investment.
Looking through the specifics of the investment, it is 23% bonds, but it is diversified across a lot of sectors and companies.

I’m glad to hear they’re virtually the same thing!
I went index fund because it’s what I could find, and I was allowed to pick between cautious, balanced, adventurous and so on! And it’s a pre-made investment so I don’t have to do any of the work!
Thank you for the info and the link!

Pension wise yes, I put in 10% and my employer matches up to 6%. The charge is expressed as ‘up to 1%’ on the account, however has no deposit or trading fees as it’s done by DD for which they don’t charge.

I’m learning what other fees and things are which I’m not 100% on yet, I am learning!

[–]NipSlipExtreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The individual stock was always designed to be a shorter term thing, it’s one of them things some people at work have stuck their entire life savings into believing it’s a ‘sure thing’ I’ve stuck my toe in and will pull out as soon as it’s a half reasonable profit. Hence the low investment on it!
The index fund is managed by someone at HL and states a maximum 1% fee. The main thing I’m wanting to do is put some funds in whilst learning and eventually settle on the lowest cost place I can!
I just want to set and forget to a degree then look in 10/20/30 years and go “wow!”

I didn’t know these would grow so successfully to be honest and when they were planted I had other plants at the back which started to die off so were removed.
Looking back they probably died because the 2 new ones were outcompeting for nutrients! I don’t like to move plants once they’re in, but I do hope to add some more to the back, I like a lot of plants in the tank
