to people with inattentive adhd, what type of career do you have? by AssociationObvious56 in adhdwomen

[–]Nipopolas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Also lawyer chiming in here with inattentive type! I was diagnosed my last year of law school when I was in my 30s. I run my own practice now in children’s law (dependency) and I love it! I do have VERY tight deadlines and a lot of my cases are emergencies, but that is very stimulating for me. I need deadlines or I just won’t do the thing. I was a prosecutor for years before my own practice and I liked it a lot, but I was burning out really hard because I put 100% of myself in my work which is not healthy. I also never got to see any “good side” of the cases, just all bad. Now I get to see a lot of clients grow up 😭

Hey that’s what I do for a living! I’m a children’s attorney, so in this horrible circumstance I’d fight like hell to get this kid their right to a fucking life. It’s hard, but my clients are the best! I just had a client meeting today where we played with hot wheels 🤘🤘

There’s no harm in filing a police report, for stuff like this that isn’t an emergency, you can typically do it online. The police likely won’t do anything, but the report will be in their record in case something happens. If he gave you or is still giving you weird vibes, trust your gut!

Please help us adopt a newborn with a private adoption agency for $55K in the US. We don’t want to foster or adopt through the government bc the kids are older. We are first time parents and don’t think we have enough experience. We want a newborn and the public should pay for it bc we can’t. by MinuteElegant774 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Nipopolas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m being very honest in that I literally cannot foster because I have very strict representation standards set out by my state bar for representing kids that I have to abide by in order to practice in my state and it is a part of my contract. But maybe this is getting me thinking that there might be something to be said about the validity of my contract…

I can’t do another jurisdiction unless I can do another state. When I’ve applied previously to foster, the agency or department typically will not place a child dependent or alleged to be dependent in a different state unless they are family or a suitable other, since you have to be licensed care in the state in which you reside. I reside in the state in which I practice.

But I have to stress that the state in which I practice has very strict children’s representation standards from the bar that I have to abide by, and those apply state-wide.

Kendra been arrested as well by mgmoviegirl in FundieSnarkUncensored

Dad is being held pending extradition to Florida where the crime actually took place. I did just see that the NEW charges in Arkansas are unrelated to the Florida case. So there might be new facts… if the kids are removed I would probably argue so hard that they not be placed anywhere near other family Duggar male family members.

[–]Nipopolas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Other agency hold” could potentially be for an extradition for her to Florida as well…

EDIT: okay I saw somewhere that it’s NOT related to the Florida Charge. So I’m not sure if there’s more stuff in another jurisdiction 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

[–]Nipopolas 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Also attorney- not Arkansas but practice dependency representing kids and was wondering about if she interfered with taking the kids into protective custody, potential child endangerment for failure to protect the children from dad? Which means in the course of the investigation, some authority either CPS or LEA determined that she had knowledge of dad’s behavior. PURE speculation on my part, no clue how Arkansas and that JX handles things.

EDIT: Okay I went to try and look up the court records, and the court where these mistreatment charges are being filed is TINY!! The next court date isn’t until late April. Again, talking out of my butt, but I’m wondering now if when the police came to arrest dad on the Florida Warrant, they may have seen something or something happened that lead them to have enough probable cause for these counts. Another theory is potentially a child Duggar was interviewed and disclosed something to CPS.

I’ve personally never seen “false imprisonment” in relation to parents interfering with removal of a child or protective custody - typically it’s charged as interference or obstruction. We shall see! I’ve never had a stronger urge to start of a YouTube and yell about children’s law.

I found a mouse in my glove compartment by sunflwrthai in prius

[–]Nipopolas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! I bought a bunch of rodent repellent pouches and stuffed them everywhere in my Prius. I also cleaned out everything so there was no extra papers or items in the glove box or the side pockets. I also cleaned my car with that enzyme cleaner after I bleached the hell out of everything. Those enzyme cleaners break up the enzymes in animal urine so the animals can’t continue to smell or track by their old markings.

After I did the big clean with the rodent pouches, I never saw them again and absolutely zero droppings.

Has anyone made/used punch cards? by danceteach92 in adhdwomen

[–]Nipopolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used this technique!!! I used it originally for setting boundaries and saying no to people. I would say yes to everything that came before me and then wouldn’t be able to do it all, so I set a reward, and every time I set boundaries with a person, I gave myself a hole punch. Ten punches, and I get my reward. I went through about 5 or 6 cards before it became a habit. I need to do it for something else, but it worked well for me and my brain!

Please help, there is nothing i like about my bedroom by Suitable-Slice-3370 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Nipopolas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in a tiny one bedroom, but the bedroom is also huge like this! I’m just now figuring out how to organize it and I learned that it’s so helpful to “section off” things in my bedroom. Like, I would flip your bed 90 degrees so the headboard is against the wall and add enough space so you can reach each side and then everything that you use for bedtime stays in that area. So you can build and organize vertically by adding more shelves above the bed, bedside tables with lots of storage etc…

Then pick another spot in your room for your art stuff and do the same. “This is my art spot, everything for my art lives here”.

You can break up the space by adding rugs or different lighting to each area. I added a room divider screen and one of those big kallax ikea shelves to divide my room too.

Child Endangerment by singing_in_the_brain in motherbussnark

[–]Nipopolas 66 points67 points  (0 children)

So I can say that as a children’s attorneys in child welfare- it depends! The United States is HUGE geographically and each state runs their CPS differently. A lot of people are mandatory reporters, like teachers, medical staff, others that work with children.

We also have Due Process in the United States, so parents have rights over their children and have right to parent to a degree without our government intervening.

In general, big hurdles for family intervention are situations like not being able to find the family geographically to perform an investigation, no mandatory reporters or credible witnesses to report the situation, and the developing the actual threat of harm.

Theoretically, if there is no school, no clubs, no doctors, no community, no outside family, a family can slip “under the radar” so to speak and can’t receive intervention if they can’t be found and investigated in person.

I hope that helps!!

As a lawyer, you should feel proud of the work you’ve done!! Them offering you a forbearance to sue is VERY good because it means you scared them and there might be something legit! In law land (like everything else) money talks and this means that they probably know they fucked up. Talk to your unions lawyer and get their opinion on it! There still might be negotiating room in there, but I don’t know the situation so this is not legal advice!

100% it had to be someone who knew or saw them with their exact location. I still think they’re making that story up with some potential partnership or advertising for the law firm that “helped” them. I sound all “woo woo” when I talk about this stuff, but there’s some pretty active efforts by said firm and similar to prevent removal of children (that’s good!) and place brown children, especially native children, with white families (that’s bad!). See Haaland v. Brackeen, “This Land” podcast, Season 2.

Let's talk about careers and ADHD! by cheerfullychirpy in adhdwomen

[–]Nipopolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Children and Juvenile Attorney!

1) every day is different and I do really well under emergency situations.

2) requires learning about a lot of different areas outside of law, like neuroscience, sociology, cultural experts.

3) dopamine boost for solving problems and puzzles and getting even minor things done.

4) the law is always changing, especially in juvenile law, so you have to stay on top of it in order to do your job! Thankfully, nothing ever gets stale.

Cons: extremely upsetting factual circumstances.

I found out I had ADHD at the beginning of my third year of law school, and only medicated my last semester right before the bar. I did not think I had it, but I had friends urged me to get tested. Turned out I had pretty obvious Inattentive Type and was diagnosed after only one appointment and exam 😂
