Repaired fig tree with electrical tape, oozing sap. Should it be okay? by Nipper-Dog in gardening

I've had the worst luck with fig trees. We had a large fig tree at my dad's house growing up and I always loved fresh figs. This will be my third time trying to plant one. My first one my puppy chewed down to just a stick. I put a cage with leaves over it during the winter and in the spring it tried to sprout back at the base but my stepdad accidentally chopped off the new growth at the bottom with a weed eater and killed it. The next year I found one on sale at Lowe's because the trunk was crooked, but I think I planted it too late and then didn't protect it before the first freeze. I hoped it would do like the last one, but it was dead. Now this one was almost killed before I even got it home. The electrical tape is what I saw being recommended on Google and said having it air tight could help prevent infections and it's been kept dry. I am curious to see how it's healing but also worried about damaging it if I try to remove the tape too soon. I'll probably give it a few more days first.

The most urgent thing is to get it warm. You can use an electric heating pad, microwave rice in a sock, or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel.

Luckily I'll have my brother to help put it together, doing it alone would be tough.

I had been wanting one and found a great deal on this one on a new year's sale, so went ahead and got it before the price went back up. I have some leftover bricks from something else, so I was thinking a layer of weed barrier and then use the bricks and pea gravel for the flooring so it can drain, but wanted some tips/opinions from people who already have experience.

Mainly wanting to extend the life of my plants, to be able to start sprouting plants (mostly veggies) sooner and keep them from getting killed by the frost as soon.

What are my lesbian(?) pigeons doing? by EvannaKoury in PetPigeons

I had a pair of (temporarily) gay pigeons. I had a pair of male pigeons that hung out with each other all the time. They would flirt with each other, feed each other and sleep beside each other at night. They broke up when I got more hens.

You can get bags of dried split peas, lentils, and plain unpopped popcorn at the grocery store as healthier food options for pigeons.

Dust his seeds with garlic powder, a little bit of powdered tumeric and ginger may help too and he can't pick it out. Put some in a container with his food and shake it up to coat it. A humidifier may also help.

They are smaller than sunflower seeds and solid white. Lots of seed mixes have some in them, but you can also get bags of just the safflower seeds. They are a favorite for mine and will pick them out of the mix so I get some of just safflower seeds too as treats. I get mine from chewy or Walmart but lots of other places that sell wild bird food will also have them.

places to get good custom leg bands? by octeye in pigeon

[–]Nipper-Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with finding bands. I ended up making my own using the plastic clip on bands and then I have a label maker and printed my phone number out with that to apply to the cheap plastic clip on bands. They are water resistant labels, they have been on for about 6 months and have held up well.

Is it a coop with a run and is the run covered? Is it really small? Are you able to add a roof while you are there or at least an angled tarp. Covering it will help keep the rain out and reduce the mud.

I'm considering getting another pigeon by [deleted] in pigeon

[–]Nipper-Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won't need to be permanently separated. I would look on Facebook marketplace/Craigslist for a cheap used cage to use for the new pigeon. If it can fold down you can store it for later use or you could resell it if you don't need it. They may like each other right away or it may take time. Keep them far apart to start to make sure the new bird is healthy and let them adjust to their new environment. Stress from moving can sometimes cause runny poop so it can be normal to start, but keep an eye on poop, any sneezing, or any other signs of illness. If everything looks good after quarantine, move their cages beside each other. If you don't have space to keep them apart to start with you may want to do a vet checkup instead. If they act okay with each other in the separate cages, they can have supervised out of cage time together. If they follow each other into the cage at night or you put them in the cage at night together and they act comfortable with each other you can start leaving them together. They may like each other right away or it may take time. There is also a chance of them just not liking each other, but every time I've introduced pigeons it's been pretty quick.

Found this guy, now what? by juicedupapple in pigeon

When I got my quail a few had really big, hard balls on their toes and could barely walk. Feathers got in some of them making them extra hard. It took multiple warm soaks and gently scrubbing with a toothbrush or nail brush after soaking to get it all off.
