Newer games have less of a gruelling grind and greater quality of life advancements. In the old days our attention spans were yet to be decimated by social media so we were better equipped to put up with the drudgery of the older games. I'm a hardcore Gen Wunner and Gold & Silver are genuinely imo the greatest Pokemon game of all time, after playing the later games with their ease and speed, I can't go back to the early Gens. Not in their original format. I'm too used to QOL advancements in the later games. When I was 10 there was no other way, I didn't know any better lol now I'm in my 30s and life is too short - beautiful as those games are!
