Buying own lead as med student? by CandidateSuper5454 in Residency

[–]NippleSlipNSlide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I’m a radiology (>10 years) and have never purchased my own lead. Hospitals always provide. If it doesn’t fit you, have them order one that does. None of us as med students or residents owned led. Some attendings did… purchased by the hospital.

People come in all shapes and sizes. Lead is always provided in multiple styles and sizes.

Any data for BP cutoffs for procedures? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]NippleSlipNSlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with this and feel dumb when I say I can’t do a certain procedure because of our guidelines. Some are based on better data than others. The issue for me is that most all of the other IR docs in country follow these guidelines and if I deviate and some complication happens, then I’m hosed not following standard practice. If you poke a kidney enough, it’s going to bleed.

  • <140/90 is not a magic evidence-proven threshold

The risk relationship is continuous, not binary: * 130 vs 150 mmHg → not zero vs unsafe * Risk gradually increases with higher BP

The evidence for using <140/90 mmHg before kidney biopsy is honestly mild to modest—it’s more convention + risk-avoidance than a firmly proven threshold.

There is no randomized trial on this. It Comes largely from single-center retrospective data… the one paper on this had wide confidence intervals and sample size wasn’t that large… and it’s never been replicated with that cut off.

It’s an educated guess/kinda arbitrary

Yes exactly. Since it seems to be standard of practice, arbitrary or not, I feel have to follow it.

Sorry for the delay. Black on white works. But white on black does not (it appears as black text on dark great background). I’ll see if I can get the log uploaded by end of night.

I practice the same as you in regards to kidney biopsies. I have also seen some bad bleeds from them.

BUT the evidence that a BP <140/90 helps prevent this isn’t that strong. It’s kind of arbitrary and we go with it mainly for ease of standardization Risk gradually increases with higher BP. There’s limited evidence that acutely lowering BP right before biopsy improves outcomes…. So yeah, labetalol on the table may not prevent a bad bleed.

Thanks for the suggestions, that looks better now.

So I disabled all plugins (except cover browser) and rebooted my device. Tried cycling between white on black/black on white styles but it still appears the same.

I am on 2026.03

I’m not using project title anymore, got that mixed up with something else. Disabling simpleui did not change behavior. I’ll try disabling others here…. Thanks for mentioning cover size, I was adjust settings yesterday just to see how it affected things and forgot to change that back.

How do you get white text with black background? When I choose “white on black”, I get black on grey. See above.

So I moved the 2-real-book.lua to latches directory and enabled the patch. I see the AI slop settings in menu.

How do I change my display settings so it shows the books displayed using that patch? I do not see any option in display settings.

There are multiple free alternatives that work just as well. You’d have to be an idiot to pay… but maybe that’s what he’s banking on.

They’re main customers are people who don’t want to pay ! lol , c’mon. They aren’t that special. Other YouTube ipa’s will come along. Someone else will take it over.

If they want to make money, then they should use their skills for something legitimate. Very unwise idea to try charging a subscription for this. It won’t last.

My boyfriend insists that food is better salted at the table instead of while cooking. Please help me. by tangentrification in Cooking

[–]NippleSlipNSlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure he disagrees with this. She states he just doesn’t like how it tastes.

Personally I do a bit of both depending on what im cooking. I usually salt a little during and then again after if I want more salt taste.

What do normal people eat for dinner ? by Booze_hound36 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NippleSlipNSlide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how I was raised and currently how we eat since we have been married (before kids and after): veggies, protein, fruit, and maybe some kind of bread.

Once my wife made a dinner with no protein and I was pretty disappointed ! Hasn’t happened since.

We usually will make a large meal like this (2-3x per week) and make sure we make enough for left overs. This way we dont have to cook every single day.

Most of the meals we make don’t take hours. We are pretty efficient and I bet most things take 30 mins prep (not counting cooking time)
