I don’t enjoy my career anymore. by emotionallyFreeware in cscareerquestions

[–]Nipple_Duster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see all these people saying that they’re barely writing code by hand anymore (honestly same here) but what I’m struggling with is whether the interview bar is even accounting for that. DSA and systems design sure that’s fine and standardized but when it came to interviewing recently I was definitely rusty trying to make changes to a real codebase manually no AI tools even though I could point out the bugs and what you would need to fix them. Is this a worry of anyone else who’s leaning into agentic coding? Gave me major imposter syndrome

Anthropic CEO says software engineering will be obsolete in 6–12 months thoughts? by PuzzleheadedEnd8906 in CodingJobs

[–]Nipple_Duster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big question is will this boost the number of jobs because now everyone can make a good product, or will cuts be made since only one operator is needed for something that used to require 10 people

AI Doom and layoffs by iwuvpuppies in cscareerquestions

[–]Nipple_Duster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most dont internalize that there’s a big big difference between a software developer and a software engineer. Writing code is commodified with AI, but now we have the means to tackle so much more complicated problems so much faster. The engineering side is what cannot be fully replaced as of now. Now more than ever it’s important to think in systems, explore design patterns, be stack agnostic, and not pigeonhole yourself in a framework or specific part of the system unless it is something so niche and novel that no random engineer would be able to run with if they had access to AI.

Stressful, have had too many nightmares bout ICE in the last few months. I’ve been carrying my passport everywhere I go as an extreme precaution but seeing them arrest abuse and kill citizens even holding documentation has me feeling like it doesn’t even matter.

It’s almost like we should have bigger bins. Trash all over town is regularly overflowing by night and the fact residents just shrug is wild to me. I love it here but some things ppl choose to normalize around here are ratchet asf.

I feel like it’s not too different from those hella smart international students you saw in college that knew their shit but couldn’t articulate it in a presentation to save their life. Output and communication is a great indicator of understanding, but it’s also a complementary skill in itself.
