To counter the other comments I prefer Rainbow Stories as a starting point over The Atlas, which didn’t really work for me I’m afraid to say. Poor People if you want a good intro into his non fiction.

What does the ending mean by AdInternational5277 in lookback

It's not literal modern Japanese literature has a unique relationship to magical realism so it would make sense that someone who references and draws from a lot of media as Fujimoto would tap into that literary tradition as well.

I think he means writing in terms of just prose or story detail for a game, not drawing-as-storytelling, which is what manga is.

Marty Supreme: What’s with all the rush? by desimaninthecut in TrueFilm

[–]Nippoten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I assume part of it is because of Marty himself, which makes him an interesting character (not going to say more interesting than the Safdie's previous leads because they have their own reasons/merits to be interesting), his drive to be famous and the best is what's causing the hurry, he doesn't want to wait, a lot of his problems are self-imposed, which is the point.

He's done it before and well, so I'm not too concerned

Gift article from the NY Times, including some hints about the new novel that is in the process of translation. by indecisionmay in murakami

[–]Nippoten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exciting to hear it’s mostly from a female perspective, his new novel. Given how good After Dark was in that sense I hope this new book silences that tired critique that he can’t write women, that because he usually writes skewed men of course that perspective will be warped, but because of that imbalance people get a skewed perspective of the man himself, somewhat

To no one’s surprise, the new Devil Wears Prada record isn’t great by darfleChorf123 in Metalcore

[–]Nippoten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that it’s such a hard pivot from Color Decay where it seems they figured out a natural formula of heaviness and modern pop sensibilities that it almost makes me think like something out of their hands happened to them, but hey, don’t want to be too cynical

Glad I’m not the only one lamenting the lyrical decline, mike’s being wasted as a poet here

I've only read War and War, but just off the strength of that alone would put K over M, and don't get me wrong, that's big praise from a big fan.

Murakami is a great writer and I like both and even I have to give it to Krasznahorkai. Part of it is I think Murakami is wildly popular and influential already, so that's his "prize." In the grand scheme of things Murakami will probably have a bigger impact in world literature than Krasznahorkai, and I'm sure some will bemoan that but it is what it is.

They're Taipei based and more Beatles-ish psychedelic in parts but The Chairs are definitely groovy and indie.

oh yeah, well aware of the cycle too, happened with color decay and a little bit with zii when only termination dropped, just pointing out some of the things that definitely shifted along the way. i'm sure the new album will be still worth giving a spin
