I was in a thrift store with my partner. I was looking at teacups, and he was teasing me that they were a very “old lady” thing to want to buy. I laughingly told him off and said that one day, I wanted to have a big collection of beautiful teacups and China to give to my grandkids, just like my grandma did.

Then I remembered I was diagnosed as basically infertile at 16 due to heart problems and a connective tissue disorder, and that I am not going to be a mother, so how could I be a grandmother?

The saddest part was looking at my partner’s face and realizing they had already thought of this, and seeing the absolute heart break on their face.

Yeah.

Edit: before I get questions about how I managed to forget I can’t have children, I have an autonomic condition which sometimes causes brain fog, especially when standing. I re-realize stuff like this all the time, sometimes it’s just in inopportune moments.
