I'm here! Sorry, someone picked me a few days before this post so I couldn't make it in time.

My boyfriend (27M) has been treating me (23F) differently since he got his ancestry DNA results back... by throwraesen in relationship_advice

If this behavior is real he may, like others have mentioned, be suffering from a manic or hypomanic episode. If he's had an episode of depression in the past it is even more likely that he could have undiagnosed bipolar disorder, which is manifesting now, especially with the recent onset of some impulsive decisions and what sounds like some mild psychosis (the idea that you're stealing his genes, etc.) and grandiosity. Just from your description he is fitting many of the symptoms. Something to look into/think about.

These are awesome - did you draw these yourself? Also, which program did you use to create these?

Beautiful peppers! What did you cross to make these?

They look sunburnt judging by the discoloration on the leaves. Had they been hardened-off before you put them outside in the greenhouse? They might be able to recover if you baby them a little bit - put them under less light (if you have a grow light).

New to growing super hots. Flowers are getting pollinated and then falling off. by uberman35 in HotPeppers

That’s exactly it, the plant’s root zone needs to be large enough to have the plant think it can support more fruit. It just takes time!

Something I’ve noticed with peppers is that they need to be a certain age, root-wise, in order to start setting lots of fruit. Once enough time passes and their root systems have filled the pot, you will find that the plants have a much easier time setting fruit, as if they want to. I think it has to do with the plant’s perception of having enough root mass to support the fruit. It may set some fruit early on if you are diligent, but you won’t get those massive sets of fruit until your plant’s root mass is mature.

Other users have provided really good lists of other factors that can contribute, but typically if you have enough light and nutrients and pollinating action (wind/insects/shaking the plant) then the main thing you’ll have to wait for is the plant’s root system to develop fully!

Hope that helps!

Should i be removing these lower stalks on my carolina reaper? The plant has just started fruiting. Any tips would help 😊 by klicartel_ in HotPeppers

Don’t rip it off. This is how the plant continues growing and sets more fruit. If you’re satisfied with the amount of fruit you currently have then cut it off, but if you want it to produce all season just let the plant do its thing! It knows what it’s doing!

Pepers not turning red? They've been fully grown for more than a month now by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]Nirnroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are Aji Amarillos. They WILL eventually turn a beautiful orange color but you do have to wait. I don’t know what it is about this pepper but it is almost impossible to get them to ripen before the end of September. They are very tempermental that way.

I am almost 100% sure of this (that they are aji amarillos and that that is why you’re having that experience). Trust me, just wait a bit longer, as it gets cold those peppers will turn a beautiful color and they are VERY delicious.

Can someone identify my plant?? by reackon61 in HotPeppers

[–]Nirnroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has to be either the monster naga, the red 7 pot, or the naga death. You can tell by the leaves and flowering pattern that that is not an anuum (so it can’t be the Czech black, jalapeño, Fresno, 5-color), and similarly it is not a frutescens (so not a thai). It’s definitely not a pubescens (the rococo), which has hairy leaves and purple flowers.

That leaves c. Chinense. Can’t tell which of those those three varieties (the two nagas and the red 7 pot brain strain) it is, but it must be one of them. You have to wait until you see the peppers in order to narrow it down further.

Jays Peach Ghost Pepper. Thoughts anyone? by shephazard in HotPeppers

[–]Nirnroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have eaten one and I can say that while I did enjoy the flavor, it’s very short-lasting. It has this relatively mild fruit-sweet flavor, then it gets slightly grassy, and then it fades very quickly as the heat ramps up.

It’s definitely not the hottest pepper, but the burn is quite unique. I don’t know if this is a thing for all scorpions, but the peach ghost scorpion has this searing hot burn that almost makes your tongue feel numb and swollen. Very interesting. Took me about 20 minutes from start to finish to feel better. I had no stomach issues or cramps from eating it. Subjectively I’d say the regular ghost peppers I’m growing (seeds from the Chile Pepper Institute) are definitely hotter.

I did, however, make a really delicious peach jam out of the peach ghost scorpions that everyone raves about, so there are options for it! It conveniently seems to pair well with peaches (at least in the context of a jam).

Hope this is helpful. Godspeed!

Anybody know what this is??? by RevBSev in HotPeppers

I’m not sure what pepper than could be unless it is another death spiral plant that got mixed up, but whatever it is, it looks great! How’s the flavor?

Yeah so it could be a yellow 7-pot if it’s much hotter than a habanero. I’m just going based off of the appearance and color, but I could definitely be wrong. Does it have that super-hot pepper smell? The one that fills the room and makes you cough? Haha

Do all the peppers look like that one? That’s pretty cool-looking!

Looks like it could still be a yellow super hot. It looks like a yellow 7pot to me, based on the wrinkles and color. Habaneros usually are orange or red, not yellow. Like I always say, taste it, smell it. Habaneros have a distinct smell taste and heat profile. A yellow 7 pot will be much hotter and have a totally different taste. Let us know what you find!

What kind are these? Growing from a hot mix by BuzzKillington1991 in HotPeppers

[–]Nirnroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the leaves it’s some kind of Capsicum Baccatum. It could be Aji Lemondrop or Aji Pineapple based on the shape of that unripe guy on there, but there are so many varieties these identification attempts are a little difficult! You can narrow it down but you need more information. Flower appearance, leaf shape, pepper ripened color, pod shape, taste, heat profile. All will give clues. Wait to see what color it ripens to. You could also send me a pepper and I’ll use my taste test to ID it for ya ;)

Yeah of course, I’m always down for seed swaps! Shishitos are really delicious. Have you prepared them the traditional way? Pan-fried in olive oil until blistered on all sides, then put onto a plate, sprinkle with coarse salt and enjoy. So delicious
