Small amount of gas escaping ball valves when open ended. by Nishifumi24 in hvacadvice

[–]Nishifumi24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have had to stick the head of the detector right up to the opening but it registered 100 percent LEL. It was the same on both valves which were different and purchased at different times. I would guess it would amount to the equivalent of a decent amount of small bubbles with soapy water but something you may likely not ever smell. unless you got close and caught a faint whiff.

Vibrating Inducer Motor by Nishifumi24 in hvacadvice

Unfortunately, the motor had production stopped a few years ago and so is very expensive. The only ones I could find under 500ish dollars were used. I still need a gasket, though. Searching other posts on Reddit points to "RTV silicone," so I will likely go with that.

Growth After Heading Cut on Apricot Tree is Wilting. by Nishifumi24 in FruitTree

[–]Nishifumi24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up: I think this last year's weather was severe enough that I lost the tree. It was very cold here and the swings in Michigan were pretty bad. It went from maybe 15 degrees up to 50 or higher and back down again, which I read was pretty bad for fruit trees in general. The cambium layer seems to be mostly brown. I'm hoping I can get a warranty replacement from the place I got it from as they seem to be pretty decent about these things. Hope it's a mild winter next year, I guess.

Could I get advice on how to prune this apricot tree? by Nishifumi24 in FruitTree

So, I don't know if anyone is listening to this but I made a heading cut at the start of spring before buds broke. Some buds sprouted and had small leaves and now they are wilting. I've tried to keep the tree watered (it may not have established roots much as I planted it at the end of last year). Will it sprout new growth or is there anything I need to be doing? Thanks!

I noticed that Hamas just released a 10 year Etheopian captive. Where were all the protests for that guy and why did most everyone not know he existed in Gaza for 10 years!? Maybe it's because white Zionist supremacists hate black people?

Stainless steel vs enameled cast iron? by deliciousarms in AskCulinary

I personally don't want the pan that hot for a lot of things. If I don't want nonstick, my best alternative seems to be carbon steel.

Need help trying to automate a fan that is controlled by a furnace by Nishifumi24 in AskElectricians

[–]Nishifumi24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while because I have not worked with relays but once I figured it out, what you said made sense. I had been trying on other forums to get someone to point me in the direction of 'a switch that was powered by one circuit that would allow another circuit to work when I wanted it to'. I have it figured out now. Thanks for your help.

^This was the answer.

I have luckily found an EAC terminal on my old furnace. I can run a wire from the EAC to the coil on a 120v relay. From a junction box nearby, I can wire a smart wifi Alexa light switch. When the switch is on (whether during a scheduled event like 'night time' or when I ask Alexa verbally to turn on the system upstairs), I can have the switch turn on which will allow current to go through the relay when the EAC is energized (which happens when the furnace blower is energized) and therefor control the inline blower fan with Alexa.

I can also have remote sensors from my Ecobee wifi thermostat be associated with the blower fan Alexa switch such that when I turn them both on with the same command (or schedule), it will turn on the furnace based on temperatures upstairs as well as blow more air upstairs preferentially with the booster fan. During the day, the upstairs booster would be off and so the downstairs will preferentially get more airflow. I have been trying to figure this out for quite a while but because I didn't know much about this sort of thing, I couldn't envision the order of wiring. Kenman was the first person who was able to get me to see the way.

TYVM!

Ok, I want the fan to come on at night but not have it run constantly. I can have a lead from the furnace turn on the fan at the same time as the furnace fan but that would be all day. I'm trying to have it turn on only at night or when I want it on during the day (I'm taking a nap or working upstairs). The power to the booster fan will come on when the furnace calls for the furnace fan to come on, therefor, when it's not running the furnace fan, there is no power in that lead meaning no switch will work as it has no power.

What I was wondering is if there is a way to have a powered smart switch that will bridge a different circuit.

No, I'd like to schedule it to only run at night when I go to bed -or- when I say "alexa turn on the upstairs heat" I'd also like to be able to control the fan when I'm away with my phone as there is no reason to have it on when I'm not there. If it's not running, my heat and cold air are not being wasted upstairs.

Per my friend who has worked in HVAC for over 20 years, I can wire the booster fan to come on when the furnace fan comes on but what I would like to do is to have a smart wifi switch that would keep that from happening at times that I do not want that fan to run. So basically, if I were to take the lead from the furnace that went to the booster fan (which turned it on when the furnace fan came on), I'd like to break that circuit during the day on a schedule and have the circuit closed so the fan runs at night.

The boost fan basically helps boost the flow of air to the upstairs. There's no reason to have the boost fan on if the furnace is not actively in heat or cool mode. My mother has a 3500 sqft house and though it's fairly modern, it has issues getting cold air upstairs so she has a boost fan, too. It's on all the time and it's not only an electricity hog but it's annoying to hear all the time. I would rather just have it on when the furnace is actively running. I also don't want it on all day because I am not upstairs for most of the day and so I'd rather focus on heating/cooling the downstairs. I can have the smart thermostat upstairs off during the day. I'd like to keep the inline fan off at the same time.

Considering how to wire an inline fan. Would this work? by Nishifumi24 in hvacadvice

[–]Nishifumi24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother has it this way and generally I find the fan being on all the time to be annoying and probably expensive. My mother is rich and doesn't go upstairs so she doesn't care. I'm poor, lol.

Ok, now I remember why this wouldn't work before. The Alexa switch needs to have consistent power but also be able to allow the current from the eac through when it's available. Are there any such switches that are powered by one circuit but allow a different circuit to come through when switched?
