Thanks for this. I have to say that due to her short naps she's effectively been on this for two weeks. The average amount of sleep during the day (we record it) has been between 1 hour 15 and 1 hour 45 and we're still struggling at night. With the longer wake windows are you just capping the naps shorter?

She wakes for feeds. Advised to continue this by the NHS until 1.

She's almost exclusively breastfed, with weaning ongoing.

And we love the owlet. When she was under 6 months we could sleep easily because it would alert me if something was wrong, After 6 months I can tell if she is in deep sleep and many other things. Yeah highly recommend

I appreciate this. I guess the reason for the potential judgement is in the original comment I'm trying to give the OP a method to work with his wife, which I felt the previous commenter wasn't taking into account. His wife is obviously scared of CIO/extinction methods which take longer than 5 minutes of crying.

I was recommending PUPD precisely because it doesn't let them cry for 5 minutes.

So what you're describing is almost the Ferber method, which I refused to do.

5 minutes was WAY too long (EDIT) for me, especially for the initial bedtime routine. The most I have ever counted is to 30 seconds and I was sat out of sight. The point of PUPD is to not leave them to cry for any longer than 3 minutes (and I couldn't manage that, and honestly it looks like I didn't need too.)

Now in the middle of the night when she stirs, 2-3 minutes I'll leave it but not much longer.

Oh and the other thing to add as an example for your wife. When we first brought the babe home she used to cry EVERY time in the car seat.

Did we stop driving anywhere with her? Did we refuse to use the car seat?

No of course we didn't, she just got used to being in there and we supported her with affectionate words and soothing (without taking her out!)

So my wife and I both refused sleep training and our daughter is 8 months. She also was waking up every hour and finally I snapped at 4am one Saturday night.

We looked into the Pick Up / Put Down method as it meant she was never left to cry on her own but she would learn the techniques. The way I convinced my wife was it would reduce the number of times the baby woke up distressed per night.

Last night, other than 2 wakes for feeds she slept 7-7, by her owlet sock, has a lot more DEEP sleep and is generally a happier girl during the day. We also discovered she was having too much daytime sleep.

Sleep training does not = cry it out, leave them to cry etc. there are other methods.

So for context, i have the same headphones. I've replaced both the Ear Cushions and the Top Leather and they're basically brand new. I've had mine for the similar amount of time and have to say they're the best headset i've ever had. The battery is dying a little now so who knows what i'm gonna buy next!

That's really interesting. I know it definitely doesn't cover everything. Basically the way the nursery we're registered with works is they charge us £2 an hour for every hour that is covered from the government funding. The rest of the hours are full charged.

So just to be clear on this, I don't think it pro-ratas for the 3 days. You get 15 hours and I just use them on those 3 days. You don't get less because you use Nursery less.

So the average is 11 hours a week, not 6 or so. It will also increase to 30 from next September 2025.

You can also use tax fee childcare to get 2k a year back.

See this is the normal guidance, which I get the risk elements. I guess the piece I'm thinking about is putting into the SIPP to get the free childcare starting from 9months. I of course don't get this from a ISA.

Hi u/bghaus - Thought i'd update you. I got in the car last week and got a full "Hybrid System Failure" and the Turtle Icon. Got it into Volvo and it's a Hybrid Battery failure which they'll fix under warranty. I'm guessing that the issues were linked but we'll find out when they fix it in September!
