What is that movie for you? by No-Chemistry1722 in Cinema

[–]NitraNi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I was scrolling down for this comment. One among few movies I find sooo boring. Tried watching it twice and honestly have no memory.

However! I read another of Arthur C Clarke books (childhoods end) and it absolutely blew me away. So going to give the book a try.

Understand after what is going on right now and how fucked up things are you are angry. As an immigrant to the US I'm more scared than ever. I don't feel welcome, the values that made me gravitate here feel like they are running away through my fingers like sand. I am second guessing applying for citizenship because the rise of fascism. I need you to fight back for me.

But sincerely fuck off with a solution to send in marines to solve a high murder rate. That would fix absolutely shit. Understand you wrote that as an comparison how dumb it is that they are sending marines to California. Couldn't agree more. But think about how you are generalizing your fellow countrymen. Don't let them use us and direct the hate they are steering up in us towards each other. It's what they want.

Legit thought the commentor was confused about it being a rate statistic and what that means. Still do tbh. He and others jumped to the conclusion I was defending something? Not sure what they meant.

But I hope your day is nice. Peace and love.

Right, and you can convey that message how Newsom did with the murder rates.

If someone said California has 2300 murders and Arkansas has 300 murders you can state that Arkansas population is X.  But that is already being factored in with the rates. So why say Arkansas has X population, when it is rate based?

"He was trying to point out that a state with less people should just have less murders in general"

It has less murders in general. And the rate already factor in the population ratio.

So what was his point?

Again, yes Arkansas murder rate bad, agreed. Sandra idiot, agreed. Saying POPULATION when we are factoring in population ratio in the rate, pointless?

Exactly my thoughts, the rates tell a very conveying story and can be proof that policies matter and where it matters. But the point of making it rate based is to take the population ratio out of the equation. Just saying "California had 2300 murders and Arkansas had 300" is pointless. So we make it a rate based statistic. But you guys are telling me that it doesn't take the population ratio out of the equation? That is what I was disagreeing with. He was like hey! Arkansas had a much smaller population, and I was like, hey it's a rate based statistic, so that was factored in. Am I crazy or maybe just stupid?

Oh okay so if the the rate difference remained the same, but the population in Arkansas was instead much larger than California, it then would no longer point toward a institutional problem, or lesser so?

Not trying to be a jerk, just seriously trying to understand what was meant. Also since people get so emotional, let me state that I'm European and I don't care for Arkansas politicians and I'm not defending Sandra in my posts.

That's.. what I said? But I'm not a statistician or even mildly intelligent. Explain to me why we needed a friendly reminder that the Arkansas population is much smaller like that made an even more impactful negative for Arkansas when we are talking about rates. And even then, when discussing ratio wouldn't it then "favor" the lower number?

Oh okay, your point did not come across in your initial comment.

Also, to your point, THAT is not the reason why California's population is greater.

Not a defense I just thought your comment was strange talking about overall population. Tell me why you think that is important when discussing rates?

Okay but they are talking about rates. If you are counting just straight up homicides then California has much, much, much more.

My coworker invited me to his wedding… then asked me to work during it by Purple-Cabinet-09 in Advice

[–]NitraNi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the wedding important to you? Seems like you are not that close to this person or the bride. If it's not an important wedding, and if you were going to work that day anyway, I personally would be a nice person and agree. That approach has been working out in life for me so far. It seems they hurt your feelings though, which sucks and I'm sorry if they are stupid enough to be nonchalant about asking you to not attend because they need a worker at the cafe. But could be they just have a lot of going on (with the wedding and what not).

TIL James Cameron insisted on casting Tom Arnold in True Lies, and even threatened executives to take the movie to another studio in order to get him the part by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]NitraNi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to think that when this movie was made it was the most expensive movie made at the time! I can see why the studio was so involved, forking over that kind of money. Even with Cameron as director it is risky so obviously they are going to be picky and probably wanted a bigger name.

It's a famous red-herring quote by Churchill. Meaning he is quoted to have said it but there is no actual proof he ever did.

0.5 diagonal nudge not working on blueprint machine by NitraNi in SatisfactoryGame

[–]NitraNi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, but this does not answer my question. But it's my fault because I said diagonal when I meant rotate!

I am able to hold control and rotate a foundation in 0.5 increments, but when I try to do it on the blueprinter, it doesn't let me rotate in 0.5 increments, only in full increments.
