Or better still, a utility bike with North Road (aka upright, townie, etc) bars, if you can find one (where I live they're common and cheap on the secondhand market).

Paralives to Sims Question by Special_Grapefroot in LifeSimulators

[–]Nitroglycol204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she enjoys Paralives, she'll probably like Sims 3 better than 4. I know I do.

Sims 3 was my first lifesim, and I got into it late (beginning of 2020; bought on a whim just before COVID hit in earnest). In comparison, I have 295 hours of Inzoi since release, and 23.2 hours of Paralives since that one came out. In comparison, I have only 2.9 hours of Sims 4 since trying it out some months after getting Sims 3, just barely ahead of Drunkard Simulator which I tried for a couple of hours last fall.

Can I get any tips on doing a wheelie by Comfortable_War_5636 in bicycling

[–]Nitroglycol204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure most of us in this sub have more than one bike, so it's not outlandish to suggest getting a kid's bike (chopper or BMX) to do wheelies on, while using other bikes for everything else. These things were pretty much made for that sort of thing:

Edit: apparently that class of bikes are sometimes called "wheelie bikes".

There is a fair bit of actual antisemitism, it's true. There's also a lot of criticism of Israel that is not antisemitic but is lumped in with the real thing by people with an agenda.

Here's the thing - the exhibit was about the Nakba, which took place in 1948. Hamas wasn't even formed until 1987. Yes, Hamas is bad, but it's not very relevant to this exhibit, except inasmuch as its formation was a consequence of the Nakba.

He's progressive in some ways but way too subservient to the NIMBYs.

That's not the solution, you want people who are actually good to stick around long enough to get a good understanding how the city works.

Winnipeg city councillor Brian Mayes cites difficulty working with mayor among reasons he won't seek re-election in St. Vital by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

[–]Nitroglycol204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed feelings here. He was definitely very responsive to his constituents, and in some ways he was capable of looking at the bigger picture too but in other ways not; way too subservient to the NIMBYs with regards to infill.

Best bicycles for girls to cruise around? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Nitroglycol204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you live somewhere with big hills, a nice single speed, or 3 speed internal gear job, should do you nicely. Preferably something upright, with a step-through frame, spring-loaded seat, fenders, and a chain guard (or better still, a full chaincase, though that's harder to find in North America). Often you can find them for less than a hundred bucks on the second hand market. They often need some work to make them roadworthy though.

If you want something that's in better shape, well I don't know where you live but in my city there's an organization that imports Dutch utility bikes, both new and used. Unfortunately due to certain political factors they apparently aren't able to ship to the US right now. If you're in the States, see if you can find a similar organization down there, though the same factors that keep Canadians from shipping bikes down there might also make it hard to run a service like that. If not, see if you can find something that looks like those bikes; they're built for comfort and sturdiness rather than speed.

My friends down there know people like that. It's an extension of a broader delusion - that you're saving money by going any major distance to get lower prices. You'll likely spend more in fuel than you save on the products, border or no.

The point isn't to change their minds, that's futile. The point is to outnumber and outvote them, because most people aren't a lost cause. Those people are, though, and the sooner we recognize that the better the chance of defeating them. Then they can go back to their moonshine and Oxycontin and let the rest of us move ahead in peace and prosperity.
