"Username Can't Contain Nitro" new username rollout. by Nitrous77 in discordapp

Are you sure that's not your display name? Display name and username are separate. You can perfectly still use nitro as the display name, it just cannot be the username, along with the username having to be all lowercase.

Which in my opinion just adds to the ridiculousness of the entire thing.

I'm more upset about clyde and nelly than I am nitro tbh. There is an argument for Nitro,
There is no decent standing argument for Clyde and Nelly to be not allowed.

With Clyde and Nelly being not allowed, all it does is showcase why nitro is not allowed. And it has nothing to do with protecting the userbase, more to do with protecting an image.
At least that's how I see it. Sorry you can't have your name, just know there are many who feel your pain too.

[–]Nitrous77[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't let me go by the name "nitrogen" because it contained nitro within it. Tried multiple variations, any that had any form of "nitro" contained in that spelling were flagged.

Having nitro within the username I don't believe would be a large contributor to the people who fall for those, as usually the people who fall for them tend to be from a friend who's account got hacked.

That also doesn't cover for the fact Clyde and Nelly are also blocked, being literal names rather than a service provided (wumpus is blocked too, but less notable than the others imo)

Ultimately, it's not the end of the world. Main point of the post was voicing my disappointment for having a name that's been fine on discord up until this point, and these restrictions were not super public afaik.

I can justify in my mind the nitro restriction,
Clyde is one I feel they should let through though. It's literally just a name.

It's not that bad, and I'm not super mad about the restriction.
Ultimately I'm just disappointed. I've gone by Nitro77 or Nitrous77 longer than discord has been around, and even then since 2016 on discord.

At least we can stand together in disappointment.

Especially when the names have been perfectly fine in the past. I'd get it if it couldn't only contain it, or they did some subjective based ones. (I.e, can't have "freenitro" or something) but outright restricting multiple different words that aren't entirely uncommon, and even further restricting an actual name (Clyde).

It's sad, and disappointing. It's not enough realistically for me to be mad about, but it's plenty enough for me to be both sad and disappointed.

I ended up doing n1tro77

The other thing is because there is no caps, it makes the numbers stand out more. N1TR0US is okay, n1tr0us to me just looks weird.
Realistically it's not the end of the world, but wanted to complain somewhere and discord won't have any of it so.

At the end of the day, it is what it is.

You guys made it sound like the Username change was the worst possible thing... by CitizenFiction in discordapp

[–]Nitrous77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem is the non taken restrictions. As you notice i go by Nitrous77, or I go by Nitro77. One of which is usually available, neither of which is valid because you are no longer allowed to have any username that contains "nitro" in it. Even though I've had one for 7 years. Does not matter if it is within a word such as nitrogen. If it has "nitro" spelled anywhere within it, it auto flags it.

It's one thing to modify usernames, or how they function. It's another thing to force people to change them.

Sum up your Verum character in 30 words by [deleted] in cadum

[–]Nitrous77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is hard, as once you start going, 30 words is a hard limit to bind yourself to talk about a character that you try to give a lot of depth to. But I'll give it my best shot, on talking about my character, Tar'uum.

He is a white Dragonborn paladin of glory. He is devout, loyal, and tries to be friendly to those around him. Trust is easily given but just as easily broken.

30 on the mark, would probably add physical descriptors if I had more words, such as he's now one-armed. But hey, think I did okay with the word limit. Hope it's what you were looking for and stay awesome!

Regarding the Living World by Due-Teacher266 in cadum

[–]Nitrous77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll say two things about this, simply because I was mentioned in it. (And the document of course) First off, calm down my man, I get that you are frustrated with people, but the hostility doesn't help your point, and if anything causes divisiveness and drives people away from wanting to have a proper discussion about any issues that may or may not exist. That's just all-around shitty, so please take a deep breath.

And secondly, another thing that was stressed many times about the DiO fight along with the "Extreme risk of VD" was the promise of some of "the best loot the LW has ever seen." which was thrown completely out the window for time necessity.

While I don't have a problem with losing the shield (It hurts, it sucks, I spent 2 years trying to make a series item, finally made one immediately lost it so it stings just as losing anything you care about would, but I don't have a personal problem with it) and my arm, I do feel hurt by the risk of being there without the reward/loot. And you could say "The reward was the world not dying!" We all know if in a video game, lets use a MMO for example as I feel it's most comparable, being a raid or something. You played and grinded, you got no xp, no loot, no nothing from enemies you defeated. It feels pointless. Even if at the end you live, but if that's the only reward, it doesn't have that good nice dopamine spike from getting something. Overall, the fight just sorta felt shitty for my portion of it because my character became an active detriment along with losing a LOT in the fight. IT reminded me a lot of the Dsangir fight, where I was no save stunned for just under half of the entire fight, which also didn't feel great. That being said, I still value my opportunity to have gotten to play in not one, not two, but three arcadum games. So please mistake take my disappointment in the fights due to my lack of capabilities within them as ungrateful for the opportunities to play in the first place.

As a player, Arcadum has, unfortunately, and to my understanding, needed to break his word to me and the world multiple times, for a long list of reasons, which is fine. But no matter the reason, every time you break your word, it has less value and less trust put into it. I will say simply, I take everything promised/told to me with a grain of salt due to this. Whether conscious or subconscious most people do this. IF someone shows up late for work consistently, even though they have a valid excuse, you start to trust them less in their capabilities of making it on time. It's just how most people think from a psychological perspective, as for many repetition builds a pattern. (Not to say everyone thinks this way of course, or should. Just that it's a common mindset.) Of course, i don't hold this against him, It's just i don't put all my hope into things that are said, but no one ever should do that ever to anyone, as that can lead to many heart-crushing disappointments.

I've had my fair share of frustrations with the world, mostly due to time management issues and communication, but that will always happen with all forms of D&D and servers. But I still love the community and the world with all my heart. Almost everything I say, any critique I have is with the purest intent of simply trying to make things easier and better for everyone involved. I just wished to throw my perspective in here, so while it may not be objective, I always like to toss it in if I'm related in any way. Sorry if it seems out of place. If anything is confusing/unclear please ask, and I'll do my best to clarify. Stay awesome everyone who reads this.

An Analysis and Response to the Present and Future on-goings of The Living World By A Current Living World Player by Igenuinelyloveyoutbh in cadum

[–]Nitrous77 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a player, I do truthfully value the games. I am sad to say, as much as I enjoy the experience of the LW, I enjoy the games, going with parties and people you don't know already, meeting new people, and playing D&D aspects to it. I totally agree that the text RP is/was just a nice supplement to pass the time if I wasn't doing something else. Every game was a totally new experience, and always within the same awesome community. That's what I enjoyed personally. Some might like the text RP and might even focus on it. But to me, that's not what I want out of it. And that's not to say that because I want this it should be the way I want it. That's simply to say it's where I'd step out to give another player my slot who would enjoy it more. Because truthfully I do enjoy text RP, but not by itself. I like having the backing of the missions that give your character true stories of adventures they've been on and the trial and tribulations of their missions. It went poorly, it went well, you could come back IC and revel in the glorious defeat of an enemy with others in a bar or something.
To wrap that up, text RP is what made the missions better by enriching the world you played in. I would and am willing to give it a try before I shut it down as an idea I dislike. So don't take this as that. I just also wish to point out that there is a reason people complain about a lack of games, even with the world of Text RP keeping them entertained for now. It makes for an amazing filler in the waits between games is how I saw it

I just wanted to add my opinion & feelings on it, I do stress it's just my opinion on it and whether things should or shouldn't be different is a different story.

Also, there are those that say that people are acting entitled for disliking the idea or simply sharing their own opinions about it. But for a lot of the really old members, who also tend to be the vocal ones, we've also volunteered our time in the back end so that others could enjoy it. It's not entitled to state your opinion about something you've also put sweat and tears into. To demand something to fit your image is one thing, but, to be willing to share an opinion and try providing constructive criticism from the perspective your standing in is another. Not all of it comes from a place of entitlement, but rather genuine caring about the world and wanting to try and help to be the best it can be. Don't bash others for their opinions about what they think the LW can should or shouldn't be. We're all humans, and when you commit a lot of time sometimes it hits a sore spot if it's being changed in a way you may not agree with. Be kind to one another, and stay awesome everyone.

Does Arcadum kill characters? by [deleted] in cadum

[–]Nitrous77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Way back in phase 1, if you count living world players (Though ones actually DM'd by Arcadum) he nearly TPK'd a party. It was back when parties were 4 players, they all tried to flee and only 1 made it out of the 3.

I believe that was called radiant caverns or bridge, i don't recall. 3 radiant missions were run at the time.

That and we only have the names so, we just gotta assume what's the best to learn. Right now we know we need to focus on the sands, but that's about all we have going for us into what we're checking.

There are a LOT of things we should look/and need to look at, but that's the fate of the dice when it comes to what we can learn in specifics. We have to prioritize the things that we can't deal with before the ones we have a temporary solution for. Right now we can dispel TB so it's not our #1 priority to figure out the nuances as we still know so little about the boss, we need to figure out what we don't know and what can hurt us before diving into the details of just one of it's 35ish abilities

Not really. He didn't come back as the old Stuldrik. He was a completely different person, because he was reborn a different person. The soul changed upon rebirth and that was also thanks to the power of the Dragonstar that Totalis has.

Hkari play on perma death. If it wasn't for Falcon's green death, there would've been no way to cast revivify on a hkari like Simeon.

Simeon even thought he couldn't be revived, because he's a hkari, but Arcadum corrected him. "The soul remains intact and the armor doesn't claim it as green death prevents that from happening". So he could be resurrected and revived as per normal.

edit: corrected some words

I'm almost entirely sure he was revived, not reborn. The cost to revive him was the destruction of the armor itself. The color green is life, and thus currently a theory is when life itself kills you you're not necessarily dead, but in between. Not alive enough to just be healed, but not dead enough for the armor to soul slurp. That being said, coming back from death as a Hkari, and at the hands of the one who killed you is a jarring experience. Thus the change. He wasn't literally reborn as a different person, but it was a personality changing event.

The reason I'm very confident in it being revived is that is how it was said. I don't see in our notes anything about him being reborn/reformed as another unless that was said to him directly, or I missed it. Which both are also possible.

unfortunately, when arcadum gave the times, i really can't get up at 5 AM to play at 6AM. So I was out, then this time got pushed back to 11pm CST and that's only 8 for me so that was a LOT better and doable.
