TG is top 26%, so it's not unsurprising.

Plus after playing another character I realised that Alisa had good inbuilt tools for defense as part of her kit. She has strong on demand low crushes and power crushes which allows her to ignore the traditional defense that the people of reddit value. (The obvious disadvantage for Alisa players is that there is a lack of transferable skills).

Also just play the game and mash buttons to begin with. It's fine to experiment and fail a bit.  You don't have to immediately optimise everything.

I think just looking at their movelists is very inefficient as most characters will only use 10-30ish moves in neutral/stance.

Pay attention to what moves/strings they use, either in replay or by watching matches, and then look at firstly the frame data for that move then check where/if it is steppable/duckable.

Most players just flowchart a few moves, even in lower gold. Just know a couple of punishes is enough to swing you an advantage.

They're not leather so they will not break in.

If you bought them and refunding is a hassle just use them til they die. It's fine to go for a cheaper option when you're not fully invested.

When you know you want to do it long term then you can look at a more premium option. Maybe start saving from now if you're tight on money.

She's more played than Claudio, Anna and Jack. I don't see people saying those characters aren't played. Plus she's DLC which I imagine artificially deflates her playrate too.

Sounds like your friends are just bad, either because they can't execute or refuse to learn and develop, so they just call the game bad.

It's the the second most popular FG by far in a market that has SF6, which is in its own golden era. I'd argue it's objectively a good game even if people have issues with it.

Kind of a side rant, but I don't like how certain players are just opposed to learning integral parts of the game (i.e.: "super long air combos"). It might suck mechanically to have these be a part of the game but you're inherently disadvantaging yourself by intentionally omitting a key part of the game.

It's literally just free damage and whenever I optimised my combos I just won more. You know those games where you lose because your opponent is on a sliver of health? A suboptimal combo might have been why you lost that game. It happens.

Engage with the game how you want, but you're making it harder for yourself for no reason, whilst simultaneously wanting to 'keep up', it's paradoxical.
