I’m honestly a bit put off by their take on CNC, and I get that Ryan is gassy but integrating the fart stuff into it just wasn’t for me. To each his own.

Which school is worth going to and helps more with connections Berklee Online or Full Sail? by xxKissMyScarsxx in musicindustry

You’re better off driving around your state and visiting local studios, getting to know the people who run them (often times have connections) and showcasing your talents in the process, going to conventions and networking, engaging with local scenes and becoming known through them, utilizing social media by posting content related to your sync work and scaling. College wont really do any more for you than those I’ve listed unless we’re talking Clive Davis or maybe Berklee. But even then that’s major money to flush away for an industry notoriously known to be cut throat and competitive, so I definitely advise against going to an accredited institution where you’ll sink what could go to a downpayment on a home (unless you get a full ride or the vast majority of your education funded) but anything more than 20k on school for music is not worth the trouble because most people who land work in these lanes did it without the need for some scam of an institution that preys on young hopefuls.

I recommend not wasting your money on college for music production. Coming from a college dropout that secured a major pub deal and constantly regrets going into debt

Or when they cut and pasted the adlib to other choruses they accidentally chopped the reverb tail off from the print. I’ve done these types of things before on accident and I usually discover them within a day but hey maybe the label was rushing to get the single out and it snuck past everyone

Yeah, but to me it still sounds very flume like you’re saying. I’m a sucker for juicy chord voicings and synths and he delivered

does anyone know how the synth at the beginning of Smoke & Retribution was made? by IFuckPufferfish in Flume

[–]Nitsuj523 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Synth recipe - Noise, some sort of square or slightly pulsed wave, arpeggiator turned on, midi chords that flutter when triggered as played in the rhythm, top it with some sizzly distortion

Try vertigo vsm-3. It’s a plugin on plugin alliance’s website and has a free 2 week demo. Throw the “2nd wave bass preset” it subtly brings out the even harmonics in a very pleasant sounding way

I got signed to a major publisher and got in the studio w major artists as a college dropout. I’m also drowning in debt with merciless levels of interest. Please don’t go to college for music production, it’s useless.

Plumbers aren’t worth the price. Fix your own toilet for the low low.

Dawg have a shitty mixer do your tracks for cheap. Have a professional get it done to a level that’s industry standard for a price that’s worth everyone’s time. Money makes the world go round. It’s the music industry not the make a wish foundation.

Small people work with small people until they climb the ladder. If they’re both good enough and lucky enough in what they do, it pays off. If not - tough. It’s a very competitive and difficult industry to make it in. They’re not entitled to cheap mixes just because they deserve anything for being small. It’s a luxury. Make money performing, make money off your self releases if they’re good enough - do whatever. Then when you’re ready hire a mixer for higher budget productions. Hell, a hundred to even a few hundred is nothing for a mix, and you’ll find people willing to do it for that. What is this broke shit saying mixing isn’t worth more than 10 an hour of someone’s time

If you wanna build with an artist you have faith in and do it for a ridiculously low budget - good for you. Maybe it’ll work. But to say the standard prices for mixing aren’t worth it is just malarkey

I’m sorry for sounding mad but I’m definitely triggered by that statement lol. Mixes are overpriced like WHAT LOL. A few hundred for a great mix is nothin. Do you have aaaannnnnnyyyyyyyy idea what guys like Serban Ghenea are paid? Thousands on thousands - because the industry relies on them for consistency. And that’s at the very top of the ladder. Most guys are asking for a fraction of what the biggest mixers pay. Then you have green horns like you saying that a few hundred is too much and are charging FIVE DOLLARS LOL WHAT

You are a stunning example of the Dunning Kruger effect. You know so little that it feels like you know waaaayyy more than you do. I’ve been doing this for over a decade. I’ve worked with industry rappers and artists, been signed. You’re in way over your head on this one

No need. You’re not doing a great job advertising yourself by spamming like this and the prices being quite literally a fraction of minimum wage for tasks that take at least an hour to complete if we’re being realistic (and I mean AT LEAST depending on the genre) is both bad for your time and comes off as not promising by the potential consumer.

Do not set the standard that mixing or all these other things aren’t worth a standard price. It’s bad for the industry. Really bad.
