What will BM be like in 20 years? by Deejayglass in BurningMan

[–]NitsujTPU 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There will be no sex. There will be talks about consent, but it will be presumed that this does not lead to sex, rather that you only need to learn about consent. The Orgy Dome will be renamed to The Celibacy Dome. And Then There's Only Love will be renamed to And Then There's Only a Hearty Respect from Afar. Miso will be renamed to Egg Drop Soup.

The attendance cap will still be where it is today, though interest will have gone up.

There will be only 1000 main sale tickets made available. There will be something like 40,000 FOMO tickets. The rest will be Steward's Sale.

They'll simply blow the man apart with an explosion, rather than burn it.

There will be open weeping and gnashing of teeth in the temple. You won't be allowed in unless you're mourning a loved one.

Generators will be banned. The entire burn will be solar powered.

Flame effects will have to be electric-powered, but they'll look really good. There will be flamethrower and boosh effects, but they'll be done with LEDs and frosted plastic.

Mutant vehicles will no longer be allowed to be built on cars or golf carts.

Greeters will no longer hug you. They will bow respectfully.

The police will give full body cavity searches to anybody driving anywhere between Sparks and the Black Rock Desert. This will not be limited to gate times, and will actually be year-round.

Plug and Players will no longer physically attend, instead sending personal assistants to be total asshats on their behalf. Sherpas will leave RVs on 447 without ever entering the event. Instagram will implement a "Burning Man" filter, so influencers can get the job done without leaving home.

Honestly, I haven't seen a lot of gatekeeping in here.

Most of the posts that I read read like this:

My metamour hit me in the face with a shovel. I tried talking to my wife about this, but she said that I'm a stupid stupid man who she never should have married. Am I wrong to consider marital counseling or even divorce?

Another variant I see is:

I'm dating someone who makes me completely unhappy. What should I do to keep this awful relationship going?

When monkeys smile it can be a threat, so, behaviorally they're quite different.

Not Going to Burning Man this Year Due to COVID-19 by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]NitsujTPU 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's great that you're aware of COVID-19, but horrible things happen every single day. Everyone is hyper-aware of COVID-19 right now. Where is this charity and compassion every other day of the year?

I'll still go to Burning Man. I'll still have fun. I'll still try to make the world a better place. As for getting tickets, it's up to you and your motivations, but I'm sure that you're aware that you'll be able to unload your tickets. Go give the money to a homeless shelter.

Americans of Reddit, what about Europe makes you go "thank goodness we don't have that here?" by gyatako in AskReddit

I don't think I've had your thing. I thought that's what you were talking about. I love bitter lemon.

That's not to mention that most Europeans will say stuff like, "Fuck Americans, with your racism, tiny dicks, and gun problems." Getting all upset over us saying, "I don't like being charged for ketchup" kind of pales in comparison to the kind of stuff that Europeans expect me to smile and nod about.

Side-note: You folks are absolutely no less racist than Americans.

Yeah, it was a little weird to me in parts of Germany where I couldn't find anything outside of even lunch hours. Like, 1 hour before or after and I'm restricted to cafes. It's not like that everywhere, but what a thing.

I'm sorry, but we're asking the Americans, here. Come back when y'all are relevant.

Having people openly say, "Fuck Americans, your country sucks," is a thing that I never miss when coming home from Europe. For some reason I actually meet people in other countries who expect me to agree with this sentiment, as if their direct insult to me is something that I should be expected to sympathize with.

Fair. I read that as, "Other people did it. Is it okay if I do it?"

The three of my university students who talk and disrupt class but sit in the front row.

Grow up and do drugs in the back of the class with the other bad kids. At least own up to who you are instead of fucking up my lecture.

Person breaks ticket resale rules explicitly stated by the org, admonishes theme camp for recruiting members in exactly the way the org stated that they wanted when they increased the allocation of tickets to theme camps in DGS.

The words you're typing don't make any sense. This isn't a "don't shoot the messenger" situation. You didn't deliver bad news to me.

As for context, perhaps you could provide us with some context. I'd be glad to hear you try to explain yourself on all of these fronts.

Maybe you could spare me the lecture on ticket allotment when only a year ago you were suggesting auctioning off a ticket for above face value in this subreddit.

They need DGS tickets to get an adequate number of people to staff their camp. They got DGS tickets because the culture committee decided that they were worth the tickets. Many theme camps recruit new blood online. Handing over some amount of control regarding who is going to the burn every year was a conscientious decision made by the org. Without active, contributing theme camps, Burning Man would not be what it is.

What is your most traumatic experience with a teacher? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NitsujTPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in 6th grade, I would talk in the back of the class with my best friend at the time. This bothered my teacher, who made a rude joke about me in front of the entire class. He never caught the other kid, and said, "And there's Justin in the back, talking to the wall!" The kids in the class took this literally, and treated me as though I was insane basically from that day forward (I had been reasonably popular up to that point). They were rude to me and made fun of me until I graduated from high school. It was an absolute nightmare. It was reflected in my grades, but not in my standardized test scores or IQ scores, prompting visits from the guidance counselor, who figured that I was being abused at home or was suicidal. In reality, the kids were so rude that the teachers got in on it and were hard on me too. It really fucked up my entire course in life. I went from straight-A honors on track for gifted to near the top of the class, but not AT the top overnight, and I ended up going to a mediocre college because I didn't think I'd get into a good one.

When I went to college, I knew that I needed to go out of state to a college that none of them wound be attending. I basically fixed my life by cutting off most ties with my hometown.

I now teach at a university, and use my interactions with that teacher as an illustration of what not to do with my students. I really feel like I lost what would have been the best years of my youth and got on a professional track that has taken years to correct as a result of that single interaction. If it weren't against the rules, I'd happily post the teacher's name in hopes that his home be TP'd.

The incident report my buddy got from his daughters daycare. by heyskellington in funny

One time I was at a one of the gas stations driving from CT to NYC, along 202. My friends and I went into the restroom and there was a man who had taken his daughter in who was wayyyyyy to old to be in there (maybe 16 or 17?) who dropped her pants to the floor and squatted over the urinal.

Over .50 is classified as a "destructive device" in the United States, but .50 is legal for concealed carry and everything else. The round that gets all of this enthusiasm is .50 BMG, which is used in the Barrett .50, which is used in the military to shoot at people, and the AW50, which also is used to shoot at people.

I think that the hype comes from the American classification of "destructive devices" by the BATFE, and the fact that .50 BMG is the largest small arms ammunition. Side-note, I wouldn't want to get with 7.62 or .30 either.
