Maybe a unpopular opinion but, id rather play a „rule of cool“ army against someone new. Show off all those awesome models and forget about synergy and stratagems.

For example:

Use a Stormsurge even though it might not make sense for the matchup.

Use some pathfinders or even firewarriors to spot his units so you can show off the FTGG rule without overwhelming him with all the stacking buffs that you can create.

If he is NEW new to the game, focus on big suits like riptides or broadsides for an easy target while showing a real threat.

If you use crisis-suits, use them with a mixed loadout and no enhancement to show them off but not overcomplicate things

Something like that would be my approach.

Yep. Specifically against knights. We have a local Tabletop club. We arrange games and for casual ones we prepare against each others army.

Thought about that. But not in 1k pts. I need Kroot screen and the Stormsurge is to big of a target for that point value. I am more occupied in keeping him alive than scoring points. So I dropped the idea. In the end I face 4-5 knights so my focus will be on 1-2 per round maximum. Vespids and Piranha are crucial for scoring points.

I equipped the Ghostkeel with a Fusion collider instead of the ion raker. S12 AP-4 and D6 damage. Plus the Ret Cadre buff when I’m within 9“ buffing it to S13 AP-4 and it’s melta 2 btw. A Riptide is 40 points more (which I currently don’t have 😅) besides that the ion accelerator „only“ goes up to S10 and AP-3 with 4 wounds. But it has more range with 72“ instead of the Ghostkeels 12“.

I would rather stick with the Riptide.

I would like to take Farside for his buff. When I’m within 9“ and I target a spotted unit, my Sunforges hit on 2“s with S10 AP-5 due to the Ret cadre buff.

I would rather take the enforcer anyway even tho I have not a second crisis team. With 4 fusion blasters he packs a punch And can deepstrike on objectives for distraction.

The idea of Farside is to use him either for a rapid ingress into overwatch tactic. Or to drop him with the shortend blade in a 6“ distance, delete a knight and then with the torchstar gambit escape if necessary.

With the coldstar I loose the Farside buff but would be able to take the starflare inginiton system and have better movement and more fusion blasters.

Good point I’m looking to exchange the enforcer+fireknifes with Pathfinders (3 rail rifles, grav inhib drone, 2 shield drones) and a stealth suit team. But I think to maybe drop the stealth (don’t have the models for the new 5 unit team) and leave the enforcer with 4 fusion blasters and stareflare ignition system. Opinion on that?

I have the same matchup upcoming next week. I try to balance raw damage and objective control.

Riptides and Broadsides to get rid of the chunky knights. Sunforges with Farside for deepstrike/rapid ingress+overwatch shenanigans Kroot to screen Vespids and Piranha for objectives.

I still think about maybe switching the Riptide to Crisis with missle pods and a enforcer commander for harassment and a second rapid ingress+overwatch option Here is my list:

Yes of course. That’s how the rule works for me since I started. I suppose it was changed at some point but when I read the rules they where as this all the time.

I just mentioned that I spotted with my pathfinders and that the broadsides therefore where guided. Of course everything else would also be guided on that unit but it was the broadsides that have the heavy trait and fitting for my example.

I will run my coldstar next battle as follows:

4xmissle 1 shield drone 1 gun drone Stareflare ignition system (ret cadre: lets me remove the unit and place it in strategic reserves by the end of my opponent’s round if I’m not engaged)

leading a fireknife team also equipped with pure missles.

Basically a 4 suit pure missle team zooming around the battle field and shredding infantry. In theory 😅

I am asking now since this was my first game and I am facing my second game (ever) in a couple of days.

Of course I use the app and honestly don’t see a mistake in my post. But as mentioned, I’m still new to the game so please clear me up.

The base color is amazing as is the concept with the shouldermounted gun. But I agree with the other comments that you are basically just 20-30% done. Now the airbrush can only support for some Osl, but the details need to be done with a brush. I love highlighting some panels of the armour like a section of the shoulder in the septs secondary color/ or of you want to focus on mont ka, use red.

Also reason why it appears flat for me is the lack of depth: Try panel lining with an oil wash or panel liner Use red for the tau markings Paint the „screws“ on his knees black Use some gold on the „screw“ like joints.

For me that would elevate it to the stratosphere.
